This is the season for shopping –for gifts, décor or food, and you’re likely spending a lot of time in stores. Snohomish County boasts many locally owned, distinctive shopping venues that are sure to satisfy all of your shopping needs. From one-of-a-kind boutiques to national brands and outlets, Snohomish County is your paradise found! If you love antiques and unique boutiques, you’ll love historic downtown Snohomish, the antique capital of the Northwest, with a variety of shops featuring over 350 antique dealers. Peruse antique and secondhand stores, specialty food shops, local liquid arts (distilleries and wineries), clothing, home and children’s boutiques all while enjoying the city's late 19th- and early 20thcentury architecture and popular restaurants. Some local favorites include: Bruning Pottery for handmade pottery, Joyworks for vintage-inspired home décor and on-trend clothing, Star Center Antique Mall for all things vintage and antique, and Everything Tea to shop one of the largest selection of teas on the west coast. For art and ambience, check out the laid back, walkable, waterfront downtown Edmonds. The outdoor center has an inviting atmosphere that will make you forget you’re at a shopping mall as you watch the resident ducks and chickens stroll about, let the kiddos ride the train, and wander the beautifully kept grounds. Mill Creek Town Center in Mill Creek has you covered for both groceries and gifts! Check out the newest trends in home décor at Pier 1 Imports, shop for luxury gifts at Belle Provence, grab a snack at locally-loved bakeries Frost or Just Bundt Cakes, visit the University of Washington Book Store, and grab all the things you need for holiday meal prep at Central Market or Granola’s Natural Market. Salish Sea Brewery in downtown Edmonds offers fine handcrafted ales and lagers, along with a selection of board games to keep you occupied. Scuttlebutt Brewing Company & Pub at the Port of Everett serves excellent handcrafted ales and homemade root beer, fresh fish and chips, chowder, and a full menu for lunch and dinner, all with a view of the beautiful Everett waterfront. Diamond Knot Brewery, on the waterfront in Mukilteo, is an independent microbrewery and alehouse, and features live bands most Saturday nights, pub-food favorites and a fine selection of wines. Foggy Noggin Brewing in Bothell are brewers of great English-styled ales, and are one of the world’s smallest production breweries. Whiskey Ridge Brewing in Darrington offers six taps accommodating a wide variety of tastes, served with a gorgeous view of Whitehorse Mountain. Are spirits more your thing? You’re in luck – Snohomish County is becoming a hotbed for distilleries! Try Bluewater Organic Distilling, whose products are made with 100% organic ingredients, distilled in small batches in a copper kettle and bottled in American-made glass, all in a stellar location at the Port of Everett. Plus, they’re a member of “1% for the Planet,” meaning each bottle of vodka or gin you buy supports non-profits around the world! Skip Rock Distillers in Snohomish is just a stone’s skip away from the Snohomish River, and uses locally farmed ingredients from farmers they know and trust to create their award-winning vodka, rye whiskey and fruit liqueur. Looking for a more personalized experience? Dry County Distillery in Marysville is a very small, locally owned, and family-run distillery offering gin, vodka, whiskey and awardwinning anise. Snohomish County is full of opportunities for snow sports enthusiasts! For snowshoeing and cross country skiing head to the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, which boasts 119 miles of designated cross-country ski trails in its forest trails. Or visit the Stevens Pass Nordic Center, which also offers designated trails for the snowshoe adventurer. For snowmobilers, check out country roads just off Highway 2 near Sultan and Index. Or, in the northern part of Snohomish County, you can take groomed snowmobile trails near Darrington. Downhill skiers and snowboarders will find that from Thanksgiving to Easter, the steep slopes of the Cascade Mountains offer lots of variation for every skill level. Located just 50 miles east of Everett, Stevens Pass is a fully equipped ski area offering a variety of terrain for downhill skiers of all levels. The Stevens Pass Nordic Center offers 15 miles (25km) of wide groomed trails for all crosscountry skiing abilities, combining traditional tracked trails and skating lanes. The Nordic Center is located 5 miles east of the Stevens Pass Alpine Ski Area on Highway 2 and is one of the sites for Regional Biathlon races. You don’t have to be a snow bunny to take advantage of outdoor recreation in winter. In fact, winter is one of the best times to go river rafting if you want to see wildlife! Take a bald eagle float tour and get an up close and personal look at our nation’s majestic mascot. The best time to go is December through February.
