on’t mess with this flood because you
will regret it! Research shows that it is a
very strong storm that is very harmful to
thousands or millions of people that live on the Pacific
Coast. The way how you can
know El Nino occurred is
when the Tropical Pacific waters are warmer than normal.
Research is not sure why El
Nino has occurred in a regular
cycle because it occurs every
three to seven years! El Nino
is so serious it has impacts all
around the world and thou-
sands or millions have been harmed during
its treacherous cycle. The sea has been so
bad the ocean cycle has been disrupted
due to El Nino! El Nino has
been accused of being in two
major systems and responsible for floods, droughts,
thunderstorms, extreme rainfall, milder Canadian winters,
lowered cyclone, hurricane
activity, and lower monsoons. So again, don’t mess
with El Nino’s treacherous
weather. YOU WILL REGRET
IT!

MADRONA MARSH: A SCHOOL FIELD TRIP
By LANDER S.
A
re you ever bored and
do you need something to do? I think Madrona Marsh is the right place
for you to go to! There are
animals like birds and gopher snakes. If you need
any directions, it is just
right next to Wilson Park!
My favorite part is
when I saw a gopher
snake. There are birds
ranging from blue jays to
swans. The tour guide let us
touch a real life gopher
snake, but I wasn’t scared
because I knew that they
weren’t dangerous to humans. Our guide told us
that if we got bit, we just
needed to wash it off.
I also saw a lot of
plants and my favorite was
the cotton plant. I got to see
many animals such as the
turtle. I got to see the turtle
in this room where they put
animals in. I also saw frogs,
lizards, and many more. My
favorite part of the field trip
was when we got to go to
look through a microscope
and see things.
This field trip was one of
the best field trips I’ve ever
been to!
other in the end. It’s a privilege to have a friend to
meet your needs. The greatest kind of friend is a best
friend. They are like a brother or sister.
Many people are shy
but are still able to make
friends. In the future kids
should be able to tell their
kids a story of adventures
they had with their friends.
With friends you can
hangout, have sleepovers,
and go to each other’s
house. When you fall, they
help you get up. They get
your phone numbers so they
can know if you’re okay
when you are absent.

STAR WARS IS OUT OF THIS WORLD
By DIEGO H.
S
tar Wars: The Force
Awakens was out of this
world!!! Star Wars: The Force
Awakens made about $170
million at the box office in
the United States during its
opening week. Also as of
February 7, 2016, it has
generated a global box office revenue of $2 Billion.
The movie stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Car-
rie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o,
Andy Serkis, Domhnall
Gleeson, Anthony Daniels,
Peter Mayhew, and Max von
Syndow.
The genre of Star Wars
is action. This story takes
place on several planets “in
a galaxy far far away.” This
movie is about a girl named
Rey and a man named Finn,
Rey and Finn try to defeat
the evil Kylo Ren.
I thought Star Wars: The
Force Awakens was a good
movie. There were only
some problems like…I don’t
want to say because that
would be spoiling the movie.
But other than that it’s a
good movie, Again Star Wars
is out of this WORLD!!!!

The movie takes place
in the same theme park

in the original movie, Jurassic Park. First it was going
all good then, the chaos
began. One of the most
powerful genetically modified animals, the Indominus
Rex escapes from its cage.
Jurassic World was one
of the highest grossing films.
It made about $500 million
the first weekend worldwide.
Jurassic World stands as the
4th highest grossing film
with $1.6 billion in earnings.

his recipe is going to
tell you step-by-step
how to make Tuna Melts.
This recipe came from my
mom, and it is my favorite
because of Lent; Catholics
can’t eat meat on Fridays
after Ash Wednesday.
After this recipe you
will learn to love making
tuna melts.
This meal is nutritious,
and delicious because
tuna is a good source of
protein.
Ingredients:
2 whole cans of tuna
4-5 scoops of mayo
Sourdough bread
Panini Grill
Cooking Instructions
Open the 2 cans of tuna
and put the 4-5 scoops of
mayo in a bowl.
Mix the tuna and the
mayo together.
Get the sourdough
bread and get the mixed
tuna mayo and put the tuna
mayo and put it on the sourdough bread.
Put the tuna sandwich
in the Panini grill.
GRILL IT!
When it’s done you take
it out of the Panini grill.
SERVE IT!!!!!

THE LAND OF STORIES
By MARIA T.
T
he Land of Stories series was written by
Chris Colfer.
Alex Bailey is one of
the main characters. She is
very studious and she is
considered the teacher’s
pet. She is also Conner
Bailey’s twin.
Conner Bailey is a person who sleeps all day and
is very social. He also hates
his teacher, Mrs. Peters.
Froggy is a friend of the
twins and gives advice to
them during their journey in
the Land of Stories. Froggy
is also Prince Charming but
was cursed as a frog.
Red Riding Hood, as
known as Red, is a bit selfish and is smart. She is nice
to her people in her kingdom.
Jack is now a grown
man and is famous for his
story, Jack and the Beanstalk.
Goldilocks is a criminal
and raids kingdoms. Fairy
Godmother is the grandmother for the twins and
controls the fairy council.
I think most people
would like this because it is
very exciting and adventurous. This book series is
full of action. According to
the comments of other students, they think these
books are really long but
VERY addicting. I think everyone ages 8 and up would
enjoy these books. I suggest
that people should start
from the first book to the
next because they pick up
from where they left off.
This book can be recommended for children 8 and
up, for both boys and girls.
THE BAD BEGINNING
By AFNAN T.
T
he Bad Beginning is my
favorite book in the series of books called A Series
of Unfortunate Events
(SOUE). It also is the first
book in the series written by
Lemony Snicket.
The characters are Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire. Violet is the oldest
of the orphans and is an
inventor. Her first appearance in SOUE is in The Bad
Beginning. When she’s
thinking about an invention,
she ties her hair in a ribbon.
Sunny is a baby that
likes to bite things. Her skills
are used to help them with
their unfortunate lives.
Winter 2016
Klaus likes to read
books to find information.
He is twelve years old.
The Bad Beginning is
about three Baudelaire
orphans whose parents
died. Now they live with
their relative Count Olaf.
Mr. Poe is in charge of
the family’s enormous fortune. Olaf knows about the
fortune and plans to steal
it. The orphans have to try
to stop Olaf by themselves
since Mr. Poe doesn’t believe them when they complain to him about Count
Olaf. The story takes place
mostly at Count Olaf’s
house.
My favorite character
is Violet because she’s
smart and a good role
model because she is
smart.
I liked this story because after the orphans
solve a problem, another
one pops up. Also, the orphans keep trying despite
the obstacles.
Last, while the book is
still serious, it also has
some funny parts.
The book is good because it is a good model
for unfortunate people.
This book is recommend
this book to both girls and
boys that are 9 and up.

SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL
Dear Horton,
I hope that the Who's
are okay with you on that
speck of dust. It is true that
“a person’s a person no
matter how small.” I like
that you kept all of the
promises you made. It is
really important to keep
promises and friends. It
would be amazing to meet
you, Horton.
From Ryu A.
Jordan Simpson as Horton
Dear Horton,
You are really cool. I
like your giant ears. I like
how you kept your promise
to save Whoville and to
care for Mayzie’s egg. I also
like how you said, “A person’s a person, no matter
how small.” Horton, I wonder how you survived the
cold and mighty winter?
From Josue L.
Dear Horton,
In my opinion, you were
the best character. My favorite part was when you
were taking care of Mayzie’s egg. You were just
waiting there, sitting in the
nest, waiting forever.
I also liked the part
where you were looking for
the clover that had the
Who’s on it. I remember
when the clover was taken
away from you, and you
were chasing the three
monkey brothers, because
they took the special clover
away from you. I think the
moral you tried to show
was “never give up, no matter how small.” The moral of
the play was to use your
imagination and think!
I also liked when you
were on top of the staircase
singing to JoJo [Editor’s
note: one of the children in
Whoville]. Remember, “a
person’s a person, no matter how small!”
From Lander S
Dear Horton,
I like the part when Horton takes the small little egg
and gets in the nest and
takes care of it while the
mother of the egg, Mayzie,
was on vacation.
Your voice was totally
amazing and Horton was an
amazing character. Horton
took care of Whoville town,
and he was calm and did a
fantastic job with everything
he set out to do.
Good job on your performance. Horton really did
make a difference with the
clover.
From Rami N.
Dear Horton,
I loved the musical
Seussical because of you.
Most of the story was about
you and the Who’s. The
moral or the lesson of the
story was that everyone
counts, no matter how
small they are. You were
willing to help anyone that
needed help like when
Mayzie wanted a vacation
from sitting on her egg,
even though she betrayed
your trust, you kept your
promise and sat on her egg,
keeping it warm until it
hatched. You help people
whenever you can, and do
whatever you can do to help
someone like the Who’s.
Sincerely,
Raphael U.
Dear Horton,
Horton is my favorite
character, because he was a
kind character. He was taking care of the bird egg, and
when he tried to give it back,
Mayzie, the mother, said
“No!”
Horton helped save
Whoville, a town of tiny people on a little speck of dust.
Horton was so nice to save
people. Horton believed everyone and other people
couldn’t change his mind
like the Sour Kangaroo.
From Isaac B.
Dear Horton,
You were amazing, and I
loved the way you really expressed your feelings. You
were happy, sad, energetic,
and much more. In my opinion, you were the best actor
out there, and I hope you
had as much fun acting as I
had watching!
All of the parts were
great but my favorite part
was when you had just
found the little town of Whoville and put it on the clover,
and then those jungle animals stole it from you! You

had to chase them and you
had to wait to finally get it
back. Another great scene
was when you had to sit on
the egg to protect it.
You are a great actor
and Horton put faith in everyone big or small. After all,
a person’s a person, no
matter how small!
Sincerely,
Razan P.
Dear Horton,
I think that you performed the best. You were
the hero of the Who’s. You
did a great job at playing
this role. You helped me
realize the moral “everyone
should be treated equal,”
and you showed this by
saying over and over “small
people are people too.” You
did magnificent, and I wish
you the best.
Sincerely,
Your biggest fan
Malachi
Dear Horton,
Good job in the play.
You did good. My opinion
on Horton was over the
limit. I liked the part when
you were asked to take
care of Mayzie’s egg. She
said that maybe just for an
hour or more. But she did
not come back.
I would really enjoy
coming back to see you in
another play. I also liked
when people made fun of
Horton, and Horton did not
avenge them.
Winter 2016
Another favorite of
mine was when you said
how “size doesn’t matter,
a person is a person.”
This show was a
SHOW! It was really cool.
Thanks for making it a very
fun show.
From Youssef B.
Dear Horton,
I think that your performance was great, and I
think you were the best
actor in Seussical. The
show was amazing and
you had the most emotional performance in the
whole play. You had an
amazing personality and
you were the best one in
the whole cast. I think you
were amazing, and I loved
your acting.
From Joaquin C.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
I like that you are creative in your own crazy
way, but I would like to ask
you a question. That question is, “If you could be a
human, would you?” I
would stay a cat, because
you are epic in your very
own way. Also, where did
you get your hat? I want
one like that since my
backpack wouldn’t be
heavy. I would use my hat
instead.
You seem like you
would be an awesome
teacher. This is because
you are a cool cat that is
smart … get it. But you
wouldn’t be better than
Mrs. Frizzle, since you are
a cat. I love your charisma.
Love,
Ruth W.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
You are really cool
and funny You make
words rhyme with no
words – like bapple and
zapple. You did really well
at the play, Seussical. I
have a couple of questions for you – how did
you get your hat? When
did you meet Thing One
and Thing Two? I wonder
what more adventures you
will have!
From Justin A.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
Seussical the Musical
was an awesome event. I
loved it, because everyone
was on beat and they all
had awesome costumes. I
like it when they were
singing. They all had good
voices, and I hope I see
them in another musical
again, because they all
are very great at what they
like doing. I’m so glad that
Dr. Seuss created all of
these cool, funny characters. That’s all I liked, Cat
in the Hat.
From Nick M.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
You rhymed so many
words. How do you remember all those words at
once? I think you are just
Michael Moroso as Cat in the Hat
8
SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL
like the Cat in the Hat to
me. I loved how you put in
so much emotion into your
acting. When you first came
on to the stage with that big
boom, I jumped out of my
seat. My favorite scene was
with you in it. It was the part
when you were singing to
one of the Who’s in the
bathtub. Overall, my rating
was 100% great.
From Owen M.
Tessa Southwell as Mayzie
Dear Cat in the Hat,
I thought that your performance was awesome. I
thought the performance
had a piece of Dr. Seuss in
it. My favorite part is when
you and the little boy JoJo
sang together. It was awesome. I think I would be
able to perform just like
you. Is it hard? Did you enjoy it? Thank you for your
time.
From Jada G.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
I wonder how you can
rhyme everyday in time. You
are my favorite Dr. Seuss
character. This is why I’m
writing this to you. You character is very good at rhyming. So thank you, Dr.
Seuss, for making so many
books, and for the joy it
brings to readers.
From Diego H.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
I think your performance was awesome and
you did good. My favorite
part was when you and
JoJo sang a song together.
It was amazing. I think that
I can perform like you. It
seems so much fun.
I was wondering if you
like doing it? How long
have you been doing it?
Thank you for reading this
letter.
From Makaila L.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
Today I saw the performance, and it was great. I
like the part when you sang
with JoJo when she was in
the bathtub and you sang
that everything is possible. I
also liked the part where
there were bubbles falling
from the ceiling but my
friend slapped me when
she was trying to pop a
bubble.
I have some questions
for you. How long have you
been doing this and how
old were you when you
started?
Sincerely,
Iliana L.
Dear Mayzie,
I like you, because you
are funny, but not always
very nice. You left Horton
the Elephant in charge of
your egg when you went to
Palm Beach, enjoying your
time while Horton had to
take care of your egg. You
were relaxing in the sun
while Horton was shivering
in the snow.
From Rebecca L.
Dear Mayzie,
I really enjoyed the
show. I like a lot of characters, but I really liked Mayzie
(you).
The thing I like about
Mayzie was how she knew
her mistake. You were relaxing while Horton was in your
nest freezing!
I like how you felt sorry
and knew your mistake. I
liked Mayzie because she
was a vacation person like
me. I like vacations and relaxing. I really enjoyed Seussical the Musical.
Sincerely,
Afnan T.
Dear Mayzie,
I enjoyed the show. My
favorite character was you. I
decided to write to you, because your character related a lot to me – sassy and
self-centered but funny too.
You have attitude.
My favorite scene was
when Mayzie was sitting on
the nest watching her egg,
which, by the way, was gorgeous.
So I see you like vacations. Me too. I love your
character, but it was not
cool that you abandoned
your egg and left it with Horton. You are lucky he has a
big heart.
Best wishes on becoming a better bird. Just don’t
lose the sass while doing
it.
Sincerely,
Malia D.

LETTERS TO OUR FAVORITE CHARACTERS
Dear Gertrude McFuzz,
I truly loved Seussical
the Musical! You brought
laughter to me, and so
much more emotions! My
favorite part of the play was
when you wanted to maximize your tail growth by eating berries from the “Tail
Growth Tree.” Your acting
was flawless, and I loved
the attention of your character. I believe you played
Gertrude McFuzz, one of
the main characters, perfectly. Thank you and
please respond very soon!
From William H.
Dear Gertrude McFuzz,
Truffula trees are red.
Birds’ tails are blue. And
plus I loved the way your tail
grew!
I like that you persevered through thick and
thin just to be with Horton. I
liked that you believed in
Horton even when the rest
of the jungle laughed at
him. I also liked that you
always tried your best. You
will always be my favorite
Dr. Seuss character.
Thank you for doing
awesome in Seussical the
Musical. I liked when your
tail grew to more than one
feather. I think you played a
very funny character Thank
you for being awesome!
Sincerely,
Emma C.
Dear Gertrude McFuzz,
I love you because of
your loving attitude, not
because you grew a long
tail.
I really believe that one
day Horton will love you.
You don’t need a fancy tail
to impress Horton, He loves
you because of your super
helpful and loving personality.
Gertrude, you are such
an amazing helper, because
without you, Horton
wouldn’t have found the
Who’s. You are so perfect, despite being so
imperfect. You are one of
my favorite characters in
the musical.
Sincerely,
Yrekka P
Dear Gertrude McFuzz,
You are my favorite
character because your
tail kept growing and
growing. Also, because
your acting is awesome. I
also love how you did
anything for Horton to
notice you. You got your
tail feathers plucked after growing them. Your
singing is also awesome.
My favorite part was
when you ate all those
pillberries for nothing. I
think you should be in
more plays.

THE MARVELOUS MARVEL WITH STAN

tan Lee played a huge
part in the success of
Marvel Comics. Because of
this, he gets a cameo in
every Marvel movie. He
gets these parts because is
an American comic book
writer, editor, publisher,
actor, and former president

The top three Marvel
movies he had a cameo in
are The Avengers, Captain
America, and Thor. Thor
was a great cameo for Stan
because he was in a pick
up truck and he tried to
pick up Thor’s hammer.
The Avengers was also
a good cameo for Lee because he is in two scenes.
In one scene, he is a man
on TV being interviewed
and the second scene is a
deleted scene. He talked to
Steve Rogers in the deleted
scene.
The Captain America
cameo was awesome because he is a general in
World War II who thinks a
random man is Captain
America.

WHY DO PEOPLE LOSE MEMORY?
By RYU A.
W
hy do people lose
memory? It is something that happens everyday
to everyone, but why does it
happen?
When someone learns,
that person gains neural
pathways that keep that
memory inside of his or her
head. This ability to grow
neural pathways is called
neuroplasticity. Everyone
has this ability throughout
his or her life.
Many people say that
someone can’t teach an old
dog new tricks, well that’s
not really true. Anyone can
learn at any age of his or her
life. It is only harder for an
old dog or any living animal
to learn when they get old
because they have a physiological change that can
cause glitches in brain
functions.
Age doesn’t cause anyone to lose memory; it only
slows the brain.

mm of artificial food coloring a day can start to cause
children to act not normal
or hyper? Many people’s
favorite food or daily food
has food coloring, including
Kraft Macaroni and Cheese,
Crush Orange Soda, and
Fruity Cheerios.
There are seven artificial food colors that were
approved for use in the
U.S.A by the FDA. There are
Blue #2, Blue #3, Green
#3, Red #3, Red #40, Yel-
low #5 and Yellow #6.
Some other countries have
banned or put rules on the
use of these chemicals.
Solutions to this problem are to make our own
food dyes by using natural,
organic ingredients and by
using authentic vegetable
based pre-made dyes.
Food dyes can be very
bad for people and it is in
daily life though no one
really notices. But, now you

the famous Double-Double.
They even make custom
fries and burgers.
The employees are
super friendly and ready to
help with a smile. People
can see them making the
food, due to the open
kitchen. This proves that
the food is fresh since you
can watch them prepare
the food.
In-N-Out is so busy that
there are huge lines there.
But the happy employees
make it quick.
Well, now for the prices. The prices of Combos

going strong.
There are 229 In-N-Outs
in California! That’s a lot!
The inside of In-N-Out is
super clean, even though
many visitors go to dine
there. So, enjoying the world
-famous, juicy, crisp DoubleDouble in a sanitary place

Based on a survey from
the students of Lomita Magnet, it was found that the
cheeseburger is the most
popular dish. Nine out of 15
students prefer In-N-Out to
other fast-food restaurants.
The average rating of In-NOut on a scale of 1 to 10

THE BEST OF IN-N-OUT
By RAZAN P.
I
n-n -Out is an excellent
restaurant, which is loved
by the public and one of the
highest-ranking fast food
restaurants in Los Angeles.
In-n-Out serves many
types of food and drinks.
Their menu consists of double-doubles, cheeseburgers,
hamburgers, French fries,
shakes, and beverages.
Their ‘’not so secret’’ menu
consists of a 3x3 burger, a
4x4 burger, grilled cheese,
protein style burger, and
animal style burger.
Some dishes that people like are double-doubles,
the shakes, and the fries.
The reasons people like
these certain dishes are
because they are freshly
made, they are healthier
than other fast food burgers, and many people think
that they are extremely delicious.
The price range for the
food at In-n-Out is, starting
with the burgers, ranges
from $2.10 to $3.45. The
fries are $1.60. The combos range from $ 5.35 to
$6.70. The drinks range
from $0.99 to $2.15.
These are pretty good prices for most people.
There is an In-N-Out
close by at 1090 N Western Ave, San Pedro, CA
90732. It is open from
10:30 am to 1:30 am.
In conclusion, a lot of
people love In-N-Out because of its delicious food
and drinks. This fast-food
restaurant is probably the
best in L.A.

he Lomita Leopard’s

a local favorite fast food
restaurants— In-N-Out.
The first question asked
was, “How was the quality of
the food that you ordered?”
There were no bad reviews
by those surveyed. The
results were not that
shocking considering that
most kids think the food is
AWESOME! Three people
said that the food was
good while 11 people
thought that the food was
excellent.
Winter 2016
The next question asked
was how did the restaurant
look? Now, you also have to
remember that they went
during different times and
some times were busier.
Seven people said that the
look was good. And the oth-
er seven said the looks of
In-N-Out were excellent.
The service and timing
were different. Five of
those surveyed thought the
service was five good, nine
excellent, and one horrible.
Finally, the Lomita
Leopard’s Roar asked
about the timing. Two people said it was slow, five
people said it was moderate, and seven people said
the service they got was
fast.

SAVE THE LOGGERHEAD SEA TURTLES
By MIA C.
R
ecent studies show
that 200,000 loggerhead sea turtles die each
year. People think “They
have shells, I’m sure they’ll
live,” and with that they
dump trash and other
chemicals into the ocean.
People need to realize that
they need to help save loggerhead sea turtles. These
poor turtles have been on
the endangered list since
1987. Why can’t people
help save turtles instead of
killing them?
Loggerhead sea turtles
are the most massive hard
-shelled turtles. These turtles are reptiles and carnivores. Loggerhead turtles
can live up to 150 years.
Their average weight is
235 pounds and their average size is 36 inches.
The Loggerhead diet includes animals such as
jellyfish, conches, fish, and
crabs. Conches are also a
type of shellfish. These
turtles also eat plants such
as seaweed and sargassum.
Sargassum is a type of sea
plant. Turtles have been on
the planet for as long as
dinosaurs roamed the planet. This proves that turtles
are important and that people should save them.
In conclusion, people
should help save the loggerhead sea turtles. They are a
part of ancient history. People’s help can greatly reduce
the number of deaths of
these sea turtles. Don’t
hate. Help this species survive.
won’t feel a thing because of
the anesthetics the dentist
will give them. Usually the
dentist will tear out an aching tooth or give the patient
some other treatment the
cure it, without drills or saws.
Dentists also order regular check-ups like a medical
doctor. They will check if a
patient’s teeth are clean,
their teeth are straight, and
make sure there aren’t any
other problems with a patient’s mouth. These checkups are usually fun and interesting, because the dentist doesn’t really do any
work on a patient’s teeth,
but just goes poking around
in a patient’s mouth, makes
them drink weird liquids, or
cleans their teeth with a
special brush and paste.
If there is a cavity in a
patient’s mouth, the dentist
will take X-rays of it and then
drill the cavity out of the
tooth. Then he will fill the
hole with a special tooth filling, which is usually silver or
white.
After having their teeth
fall out or pulled out by the
dentist, young kids have a
privilege. A “tooth fairy”
goes to the their house at
night, takes their tooth, and
in its place, leaves a treat
such as candy or money.
So, going to the dentist
can be a both pleasant and
unpleasant experience, but it
is never as horrific as people
say it is. With today’s technology, going to the dentist is
no big deal and nothing to
worry about.
THE DENTIST
By VILEM L.
O
ne of the most unpleasant experiences is having a tooth
that wiggles and won’t

fix this. The dentist is a doctor that specializes in teeth
and oral health (gums,
overall cleanness, etcetera). He can take care of
tooth aches and teeth that
are crooked. He can give a
patient braces to shape
their teeth correctly, or he
might give them cavity
blocks to stop the spread of
cavities.
Many kids and even
grownups fear the dentist

PENGUINS
By AFNAN T.
P
enguins are a kind of
aquatic birds that don’t
have the ability to fly even
though they have wings
that have evolved into flippers. These flightless birds
live only in the Southern
Hemisphere, mostly in Antarctica. They are highly
adapted for life in the water.
Penguins have a white
belly and a black back to
act as counter shade, which
is a form of camouflage. For
example, when penguins
are in the water, predators
can’t really see them because different body parts
look like the ocean or something else. The difference in
feather color is called plumage.
Penguins like to feed on
krill, fish, squid, and other
forms of sea life. They spend
equal parts of their life in
the ocean and on land.
Did you know that the
largest species of penguins
is the Emperor Penguin?
There are many exciting
facts to learn about penguins, and here are a few.
The average adult penguin
is 3 ft. 7 in. tall and weighs
77 pounds or more.
The smallest species of
penguins are the little blue
penguin. These penguins
are also known as fairy penguin. They are around 16
inches tall and weigh 2.2
pounds. Some are found in
New Zealand and Australia.
A fun fact about penguins is that larger penguins
inhabit colder regions while
smaller ones are found
mostly in temperate or tropical climates.

MANNING’S LAST GAME

o you hear that? That
was the sound of the
audience snoring, because
the Super Bowl was so
boring. You would think that
at the grandest stage of
them all there would have
some interesting plays, but
nothing. They had the
audience to electrify
them, the echo of Levis
stadium, and they were
great teams— the
Denver Broncos and the
Carolina Panthers—and
still nothing.
If you are still confused the Super Bowl is
an annual event that
takes place in the NFL
(National Football
League). So the sport is
the all American sport, football.
It took place in Levis
stadium in Santa Clara, and
the date was February 7,
2016.
The final score was 10
to 24, and the Broncos won.
An interesting fact about the
Super Bowl is that the two
teams playing have quarterbacks, as you may know,
and they are Peyton Manning for Denver, and Cam
Newton for Carolina.
This game was boring,
but it will definitely hold a
place in the record books,
because it was NFL Hall
of Famer Peyton Manning’s last game. That is
definitely something to
talk about.
The 2016 NFL Super
Bowl was boring, but we
should give a standing
ovation to Peyton Manning for over 20 years of
football. His plays stood
out, and he deserves to
be in the Hall of Fame.

Many people were surprised by the untimely
death and they never found
out who shot him
app purchases. Boys and
girls 10+ are able to download the game.
Growtopia is a game
with no goals, just an infinite number of worlds
where you can create whatever you want with all your
friends. Everything in the
game can be grown in
trees. You can discover new
things by mixing seeds of
trees you already have. New
things happen every year,
and events happen every
month.
I think that this product
is really addicting because
this is a super fun and creative game. I also think that
the game is great because
you can be able to meet
your friends in there and you
can also meet new friends.
The game is also helpful
because it teaches life lessons.

SUPER MARIO MAKER
By JUSTIN A.
H
ave you ever wanted
to make your own Mario levels? Now people can
with Super Mario Maker. It
was developed for the Wii
and released in 1995
In Super Mario Maker
people make their own Mario levels. Each day if people
play Mario Maker for at
least five minutes, they get
new things to build levels
with. But if people get
bored with that there are
always the challenges.
The two challenges are
the Ten Mario Challenge
and the hundred Mario
challenge. In the Ten Mario
Challenge, people have ten
lives and they have to beat
eight levels without losing
all ten lives. In the Ten Mario Challenge, people go
through the same levels but
in a different order.
In the hundred Mario
challenge people have a
hundred lives and they go
through random levels. In
the hundred Mario challenge there are three difficulties, which are easy, normal, and expert.
Next there is online
where people can share
their levels and play other
peoples’ levels. The problem is that people cannot
search up the levels that
they want. So if people want
to have fun with their Wii U
then they should play this
game.
SUPER PAPER MARIO HARD BOSSES
By JOSUE L.
B
robot the very annoying boss. He is Mr. I.'s
bro and a robot. Mr. I.
treats Brobot as a real
brother. He is located at the
Whoa Zone. His max health
or HP is 255,which is really
helpful to know. His attack
is 4 so that is also helpful.
His defense is 4 but if attacked with fire it is 8
(Bowser is not helpful in
this boss).
Super Dimentio is the
last boss on the story
mode. He comes right after
defeating Count Bleck
(learn about him in paragraph 4). He is located in
Castle Bleck. His max
health or HP is 200 (wow).
The attack of this boss is 6.
His defense is 0 on his
head and 4 on his body.
Bonechill is not a smart
boss at all. He is located in
the Overthere (yeah its
called The Overthere). His
health is 80.His attack is 4.
His defense is ‘??’ (No one
knows).
Count Bleck or Lord
Blumiere the 2nd to last. He
is located in Castle Bleck.
His attack is 8. His defense
is 0(with the Chaos Heart he
is invincible with it).
The next boss is the
Underchomp. He is located
in the Underwhere Road.
The attack of them is 3
each. Their defense is 4
each.
The next boss is Shadoo
he is a copycat and he first
copies Bowser. Dark Bowser
(that is Bowser copycatted by
Shadoo) is located at the
Flopside 100 Pit Trail Dungeons. His max HP or health
is 100. His max attack is 20.
His defense is 4.
Then Shadoo will copy
Princess Peach. Her max HP
or health is 100. Her max
attack is 10. Her defense is
0.
Then Shadoo copies
Luigi. His max HP or health is
100. His max attack is 10.
His defense is 0.
Lastly Shadoo copies
Mario. His max HP or health
is 100. His max attack is 10.
His defense is 0.
These are all of the hardest bosses in Super Paper
Mario.

L
ooking for a new game
to obsess about? Try
out QuizUp and forget
about Trivia Crack. Think
you know the best about
Once upon a Time? Test
your knowledge with the
Once upon a Time quiz.
QuizUp was made by
Plain Vanilla Games, a new
company. You can test your
knowledge on more than
enough quizzes. This is also
educational because of its
math-related quizzes. If you
still aren’t already obsessed here’s some more
information.
There are many reasons to play this game, and
here are some of them. For
one you can earn many
awards and achievements.
This game also let’s you
interact with your friends
and make new ones. Plus it
has many quizzes to
choose from like Minecraft,
Frozen, and many others. It
also has every state’s popular trivia topic. California’s
most popular is Name The
Celebrity. The top topic is
Name The Logos. QuizUp
let’s you also make your
own quiz.
QuizUp does have a few
flaws, like every other kind
of app. QuizUp shows your
personal information. Plus
it can show strangers your
Facebook ID and email address. QuizUp may have
flaws but it is still the best.
In conclusion, this quizzing game is a really fun.
You can test your knowledge on your favorite topic.
You also can learn while
having fun. QuizUp is one of
the best games in the
world, but make sure it’s
okay with your parents before you download it.
THE WORLD OF UNDERTALE
By JUSTIN A.
U
ndertale is a game created by Toby Fox. Another thing that Toby made
was an Earthbound Halloween hack. Some characters
in Undertale are Frisk,
Flowey, Alphys, Undyne, Toriel, Mettaton, and Mettaton
Ex. There are also two skeleton brothers called Sans
and Papyrus. They are
named after fonts that are
on a computer.
There are two routes to
take. These routes are the
pacifist route and the genocide route. I recommend the
pacifist route first because
people will not get the genocide route if they do it first.
In the pacifist route the
Winter 2016
character does not fight,
but he makes friends with
people. If people do the
genocide route the character kills everybody he encounters. Everybody is
afraid of him. He kills all his
friends.
The plot of the story is
there was a war between
humans and monsters. The
humans won and the monsters are stuck underground forever. The monsters need seven human
souls to escape the underground. They have six. But
then the character falls to
the underground. Everybody wants to kill him to
get his soul. But you do not
want to kill anybody because the character is in
the pacifist route first.
Overall the game is
really good. It got great
reviews. This game is one
of the best I have ever
seen.
Note to parents: According
to commonsensemedia.org,
this game is appropriate for
ages 9 and up. “Cleverly, it
emphasizes understanding
that the old trappings of
violence and beating up
enemies without real cause
can be totally ignored or
considered a last resort. You
have no cause to hurt anyone...”

NOTE FROM PRESSFRIENDS
C
ongratulation to all the
2015-16 Lomita Leopard’s Roar reporters on a
great job! We are so proud
of all the reporters and hope
everyone enjoys this issue.
None of this would be
possible without all the time
that Ms. Brittany Breland
volunteers to oversee the
program. And we are grate-
ful to her own children who
join us on some of the trips
when it takes Ms. Breland
away on the weekends and
when they are on school
breaks.
We also appreciate the
support of all the fifth grade
teachers and your principal,
Mrs. Monica Friedman. Without their support, the program would not be the great
success that it has been this
year.
I’d also like to thank all
the PressFriends mentors at
Lomita Leopard’s Roar. For
Emily, Kaitlan, Katie, Tori,
Matt, Austin and me, we’ll
be moving on to college next
year, but we won’t forget all
the great times we’ve had at
Lomita Math/Science Magnet. There are a great group
of mentors following us, and
you’ll recognize Morgan,
Marissa and other familiar
faces next year.
