Photo Simon Krieg G’day and welcome to yet another fabulous Feast! This year is a year of change and excitement. We have implemented so many new initiatives and ideas in 2010 that we believe this year will mark a new era for the Festival. With the theme Our Place we will build our place in the middle of Light Square. Come November, for 16 days we will make Light Square our home and give our LGBTIQ communities their own place to feel safe, respected, and fabulous! At our home in Light Square we will showcase some of the best queer artists from all over Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. There will be stand-out performances by Moira Finucane, one of Australia’s most highly acclaimed and exciting cabaret performers, the thrilling burlesque Brisbane boys in Briefs and UK sensation Ursula Martinez with her new show My Stories, Your Emails. The Festival Hub is our place for Opening Night and the Picnic After Party, Quench, our Queer Thinkers Weekend, Literature events, an excellent mix of registered events, film nights, the entire Feast Visual Arts program plus much more. Feast also welcomes our broad audience of supporters, friends and lovers of excellent live performance to our place. In this, our inaugural year in Light Square, come and be entertained in Feast’s magnificent circus tent, The Ballroom, or The Lounge, a plush cabaret style venue, and the intimate Garden Shed plus our outdoor stage with plenty of free entertainment. There will be reasonably priced drinks and delicious food. Support the Festival that supports you and come and enjoy the Festival atmosphere at Feast’s new home. This the first time Feast has ever tried anything on this scale, and I believe it is exactly the type of profile building we need to do, to ensure the Festival continues to grow and move forward. This initiative will become the foundation for our future, and give the festival an exciting new direction. I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you, to all those in the Feast Team who have worked tirelessly to ensure Feast will reach its 14th Birthday in amazing style, and thank you to the community who have supported the Festival since its inception in 1997. Together let’s build Our Place and make Feast 2010 a festival to remember. The 2010 theme is ‘Our Place’, and it offers a range of exciting and challenging events that explore this idea, and centres in and around the Festival’s new performance and entertainment Hub in Light Square. Feast connects many diverse sectors of our community through its program of activities, and offers celebration as well as empowerment. As you will see from this program, it can truly claim to offer something for everyone. ‘Our Place’ encourages all people to meaningfully and proudly express their identities through a program of artistic excellence, experimentation and creativity. This festival of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer life and lifestyle is an important part of our State’s annual arts calendar, and one that celebrates difference while promoting acceptance. I congratulate the staff, board and many volunteers who continue to present this inclusive festival, and offer my best wishes to everyone partaking of this year’s Feast. A message from the Lord Mayor of Adelaide Welcome to the City of Adelaide for the 2010 Feast Festival. This year’s theme, ‘Our Place’, celebrates the arrival of artists from local, national and international locations to perform in the city. Adelaide City Council is pleased that Light Square will be the 2010 festival hub, hosting performances and other entertainment for the duration of the event. The City of Adelaide is proud to offer its citizens a broad range of artistic experiences, and the Feast Festival is no exception. The event truly has something for everyone, including theatre, comedy, cabaret, visual arts and more. I encourage the community to come along and support the 2010 Feast Festival, and I wish the event every success. Michael Harbison The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor It’s Festival time once again, and this year the team of Feast present another program full of fabulous fun with a range of engaging performances and events that celebrate diversity within our community. The Feast Festival continues to grow and the 2010 event offers participants new spaces and new places. Through the theme of ‘Our Place’ this year’s festival gives ‘Picnic in the Park’ a brand new home at Pinky Flat, and provides a new performance and entertainment Hub in Light Square. Now in its 14th year, Feast steps out in style with a brand new image that reflects the dynamic energy of the Festival. As you make your way through this program you will discover new and innovative projects that connect, inspire and intrigue. Enjoy, Feast 2010! Photo Simon Krieg Spreading the Love – Chat Room Chat Room is part performance, part conversation, and part radical relaxation. Join Aurora in her big bed as it tours Adelaide’s parks, shopping centres, libraries, and public spaces. Engage in short conversations that explore intimacy and closeness, separation and disconnection. These conversations are recorded and become part of the performance, forming a dialogue that spans across the city, through different neighborhoods, cultures, and people. Chat Room asserts itself as a quiet space of personal connection in the midst of hustle and bustle. As an anecdote to restlessness and disconnection, Chat Room allows intimate moments of secrets and sharing. Take part in Chat Room by turning up to any of the performances around Adelaide. Come to all of them and watch how they grow and change. Unwind on Aurora’s bed and chat, or watch the tv monitor that live-streams the performance. Presented by Feast Presented by Feast and Urban Myth Blind Nelly Urban Feast Nelly has been socially isolated for years... fifty eight years to be exact. Largely kept within the four walls of her home, Nelly now finds herself an independent woman after the recent death of her over-protective Pa. In 2010, 6 young people met in a studio in Unley to create a play for the 2011 Feast Festival. The play had no name, no plot, no characters and no idea what it was going to say… and so an adventure began. ‘Blind Nelly’ is a provocative new work in progress ‘teaser’ followed by a forum, inspired by the extraordinary life of a local congenitally blind woman. What does gender, love, relationship and sex look like without visual cues? How does one ‘come of age’ at fifty eight? You now have the opportunity to see the first fruits of this labor of passion, bravery and laughter as Feast, Urban Myth and Director Edwin Kemp Attrill presents the 1st reading of this brave new work. Come on a quirky, tragic and hilarious journey into where Nelly’s world and reality collide, compliment and permeate each other. A collaboration between Michele Fairbairn, Daisy Brown, Heather Frahn, Maura O’Regan, Jason Hawkes and starring Sandy Gore.
