She is also Affiliated Professor, Centre for the Study of Jewish-Christian
Relations, Cambridge UK. Amy-Jill has been awarded grants from the Mellon
Foundation, the National Endowment for Humanities and the American Council
of Learned Societies. She has held office in the Society of Biblical Literature,
the Catholic Biblical Association and the Association for Jewish Studies.
Her numerous publications include The Misunderstood Jew : The Church and the Scandal of the
Jewish Jesus; The Historical Jesus in Context; The Meaning of the Bible : What the Jewish
Scriptures and the Christian Old Testament Can Teach Us; and The Jewish Annotated New
Testament.
A self described Yankee Jewish feminist, Dr Levine is a member of Congregation Sherith Israel, an
orthodox synagogue, although she is often quite unorthodox. She combines historical-critical
rigour, literary-critical sensitivity and a frequent dash of humour in her approach to her work.
