A record achieved in 21 years, thanks most of all to the MyKey. In this Issue 02 The new payment systems 03 New key & card readers 04 PROFIT: The new 5-tube coin mechanism 05 Coges Certifications 06 Fairs and conferences 07 News from the world 08 Coges News It all began in 1987, when the famous electronic with-contacts, rechargeable key was introduced for use on all vending machines. The innovative “Red key”, which was available in more than 10 different colours, released Italians from having to go around with a pocket full of coins, and it strongly influenced the vending market to become the benchmark for cashless systems in Italy for many years to come. The sector took another important leap forward in the 1990’s, when the miniaturisation of electronic parts made it possible to produce keys that were able to communicate with the vending machine using radio frequencies, with no need for exposed electrical contacts: this meant that the information stored in the key was better protected than in the past and Coges yet again was on the leading edge, consolidating its leading position on the cashless market. In recent years electronic payment systems have taken a further step forward with the widespread adoption of transponder technology, which allows even more secure information transmission using radio frequencies, thanks to the presence of an antenna actually inside the key. MyKey Coges has, therefore, been able to replace the historic grey and red keys with new, coloured MyKeys, which have a more streamlined design and guarantee an even higher level of security than previous keys. IRIDIUM Key – Card is a key and card payment system, created for those who need to combine high performance with ease of use. The Iridium system can be connected to a vending machine operating with the MDB protocol. In an IRIDIUM system it is E.C.S. IRIDIUM Key/Card possible to programme up to 10 sale prices in cost-by-price configuration or, alternatively, to manage sale prices directly in the vending machine. The IRIDIUM supports MyKey keys, and MyCard cards and service keys available in both contactless and USB formats. Iridium Technical Data Coges is extending its range of electronic payment systems by offering three new systems, in which elegant design of the exposed parts is combined with the reliability and performance that have always distinguished the top-end products. Each system is available in a Key version (with key reader) and a Card version (with key and card reader). The new readers have two LED’s to help the user when making a purchase, while the client can customise the colour of the light illuminating the key insertion slot and the top of the readers. The Card reader also has an integrated infrared interface, so that accounting records can actually be read without having to open the vending machine. Both the systems and the key or card readers are made of self-extinguishing plastic. It is easy to programme the operating parameters and related customised settings for the new Iridium, Titanium and Platinum systems, using a guided installation wizard and the E.C.S. programmer, while transactions are extremely secure thanks to transponder technology and advanced data protection functions. Utilisation is made even easier with the user key autocode functions and automatic deposit management, while accounting data readings, available in extended mode or EVADTS format, can also be made using either the integrated IR interface in the card reader or the optional IR PORT module. As for all Coges products, these systems are supported by a wide range of accessories for programming, recharging, updating firmware and reading accounting data, making for an even more complete, fully functional product. It is the result of many years’ experience and of the continuing quest for innovation that has always characterised our products. Equipped with a 5-button keypad and a backlit display with 16x2 characters, the PROFIT has been developed to be practical and user friendly, its descriptive menu being an additional aid to speed up setup operations. Appearance is not the most important aspect of a change-giver coin mechanism, but the PROFIT is also striking for its elegant design, highlighted by the bright red validator group, the ice-blue backlit display and the practical external keypad. Coges Certifications ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 Right from the beginning, one of Coges’ primary goals has been customer satisfaction. A road that has taken us to search for better and better performance, with improvements that can be quantified and are recognised outside the company. The natural consequence has been to create an organisational structure that adopts a systematic approach, taking decisions based on concrete information, and in 1999 Coges adopted and implemented the ISO 9001 international “Quality management systems” standard. This voluntary standard focuses organisation on activity planning, on controlling correct execution of previously decided activities, on assurance of maintained standards over time, and on achievement of the objectives defined at the planning stage; all with the aim of continuous improvement. In its constant striving for better performance with recognition outside the company, Coges has progressively broadened its vision of the community of which it is a member. Within the company there has always been awareness of the importance of safe working methods and environmental matters: following on from the results of application of ISO 9001, Coges decided to implement the British version of the voluntary “Occupational health and safety assessment series” OHSAS 18001 standard (2006), and subsequently (2007) to implement the voluntary ISO 14001 “Environmental management systems” standard (2007). These two standards redevelop up the organisational aspects of the ISO 9001 standard (planning, control, assurance, objectives, improvement), integrating it with specific topics and adding legislative and regulatory controls (at the European, national, regional, provincial and municipal levels, and in some cases for single service operators, such as water or refuse). Coges is now, therefore, reasonably certain of conformity with the legislation in force and at the same time has improved the workplace, making it healthier and safer, and with more respect for the surrounding environment. Coges has now set itself an ambitious goal: to develop user-friendly, technologically advanced products, with complete respect for the people involved in the production process and also for the environment. 05 Fairs and conferences The figures for Venditalia, the EVA conference and LMDA Vending Day Coges was an active participant at VENDITALIA 2008, one of the best, complete vending showcases, which yet again confirmed its place as the most important show in the world for the vending industry. It was certainly a positive experience for Coges: as well being as a chance to meet potential customers, it was also an opportunity receive a competitive stimulus to grow by taking a look at what other exhibitors had on show. LMDA Vending day On 6th June 2008, COGES France took part in the LMDA VENDING DAY. This event was organised by the “Le monde de la DA” trade magazine and concentrated mainly on the most innovative technologies of the future. Telemetry, ‘M2M’ (communication between two machines), management programming solutions, geolocation, internet 2.0, etc. are just some of the solutions presented by the exhibitor companies. The purpose was to show that all these advanced technologies, which can be used for optimising day-to-day management, are at the operator’s service. Coges was present in order to announce ongoing projects using these new techno- The future of payments at the VM: an EVA conference For 12th September 2008, the EVA (European Vending Association) is organising a conference to provide information about payments in today’s society and their impact on the VM. After a general introduction, illustrating the future of cash in Europe, delegates will be able to discover the pro’s and con’s of cash, cashless and bill validators, and also have a glimpse of future payment technologies. 06 Venditalia is… 18,500 operators from the industry; 15,000 visitors; 60 accredited newspapers and publications; 10 accredited foreign publications; 300 exhibitors; 14 countries represented by exhibitors; 180 sq.m for the Coges stand 4 new products presented at the fair; 4,500 dispensed portions of food; 105 uncorked bottles of wine; 16 members of staff present on the stand. logies, but even more to inform customers that many of these new solutions are already available for those who are ready to learn how to use them. With its range of solutions on offer and its partnerships with other vending protagonists, Coges is actually already able to make a large number solutions and applications available. Coges will take part at this important conference by contributing a speaker: Mr Stefano Bertoldo, Strategic Marketing Manager, will speak during the debate with a contribution regarding payment using the mobile phone. Further information can be found at the EVA website, www. vending-europe.eu. The event will take place at the Sheraton Airport Hotel in Brussels. News from the world The Smart vending machine We already know how much the Japanese love to use vending machines (in pingmag you can find a special report on the subject). They will sell anything, even toys (just think of gashapons) Take a look at the picture. What does it look like? It is a vending machine in Shibuya Station. It doesn’t sell toy cars (as you might think at first glance). It actually dispenses a Smart-brand tube containing catalogues for the new models and stickers. An entertaining, creative marketing method. Vending machines installed where you’d least expect them……. 07 Coges News China Vending Show From 26th-28th June, Shanghai was the site of the fifth edition of the China Vending Show. As well as receiving support from a number of important Chinese business associations, the event was also sustained by the Worldwide Vending Association (WVA), National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA), European Vending Association (EVA), and Japanese Vending Machine Manufacturers Association (JVMA), This is a tangible demonstration of confidence and support for vending in China from the most important associations representing vending worldwide. The fair, like the market itself, is hardly beyond the embryo stage. The exhibitors included well-known names such as Bianchi, N&W, MEI-Conlux and JCM, and also names linked with Chinese-Korean-Japanese businesses, some of which are still state-owned. Among the more important names were: Guard, Fuji Electric Bingshan, S.M. Coin, Kimma and Baixue, which, as well as having a robust presence in China, are strongly inclined towards export, especially to English-speaking countries. We would like to welcome Alessandro Albanese, the new area manager for Eastern Europe and the Far Alessandro Albanese East and Peter Kollarovits, who will cover the French and Belgian markets. Good luck to both Alessandro and Peter! Highlights Our new area managers Coges visited the fair in order to keep up to date with changes in the vending market even in such a distant market - that appears, however, to be growing very quickly. Despite the limited size of the fair, it attracted great interest and there were large numbers of visitors. The stands were attractive and exhibitors were very willing to discuss matters and exchange information. Vending in China is a new world ripe for discovery: the general view is that large investments in the industry are needed now, if the vending culture in China is to grow, just as was the case for other countries. For sure we can expect great news from China! 2008 summer vacation from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00.
