Le Fonti di Monticchio water flows from the rocks of this precious source located in the heart of Basilicata, in an unspoilt land boasting a wide range of flora and fauna. Le Fonti di Monticchio have exploited this environment of fertile volcanic ground and abundant sources and, today as yesterday, bring to the table the extraordinary purity of unique mineral waters. over a hundred years of history The Vulture area, rich in natural springs and forests has always been a hospitable and generous land. From the Romans of Horace’s time, to the Swabians of Frederick II, from the Basilian monks to the present day, pure spring water has always been considered the most valuable asset of this land. a historical heritage compatible with nature The spring, known since ancient times, was first exploited industrially towards the end of the 19th century by an Italian and French company. Reference was made to the water in the 1892 Universal Exhibition of Turin as the “Sorgente di Monticchio”, named after the place where it rises. In 1906 an ambitious research programme was launched, culminating with the presentation of five mineral waters, each with different curative properties, at the 1910 Universal Exhibition of Milan. Among the sources still in existence, only the Gaudianello spring is commercially exploited nowadays.
