Le Fonti di Monticchio are absolutely unique in origin, properties and taste; a
precious gift that the unspoilt nature of Monte Vulture has been generously
yielding for thousands of years. Extraordinary geological and environmental

Nature began working for Le Fonti di Monticchio 130,000 years ago when
the volcano,“Vultur” as it was called by the ancient Romans, ceased its activity.
Here, for thousands of years, rain water has seeped through the tuffs producing two kinds of water: the Gaudianello natural sparkling water and the Leggera water low in mineral content. Le Fonti di Monticchio water flows from
the rocks of this precious source located in the heart of Basilicata, in an unspoilt land boasting a wide range of flora and fauna. Le Fonti di Monticchio
have exploited this environment of fertile volcanic ground and abundant
sources and, today as yesterday, bring to the table the extraordinary purity of
unique mineral waters.

The Vulture area, rich in natural springs and forests has always been a hospitable and generous land. From the Romans of Horace’s time, to the Swabians of Frederick II, from the Basilian monks to the present day, pure spring
water has always been considered the most valuable asset of this land.
a historical heritage
compatible with nature
The spring, known since ancient times, was first exploited industrially towards
the end of the 19th century by an Italian and French company. Reference was
made to the water in the 1892 Universal Exhibition of Turin as the “Sorgente
di Monticchio”, named after the place where it rises. In 1906 an ambitious research programme was launched, culminating with the presentation of five
mineral waters, each with different curative properties, at the 1910 Universal
Exhibition of Milan. Among the sources still in existence, only the Gaudianello
spring is commercially exploited nowadays. In 1946 it acquired its present
name of Fonte Gaudianello Monticchio.

of bicarbonate that slowly dissolves the carbon dioxide, giving every sip a
pleasantly intense taste. The optimal concentration of bicarbonates in the
water favours the digestive process, while the trace of magnesium in Gaudianello Festosa has diuretic properties and ensures a healthy heart.

Leggera water is also produced in the Vulture area where the natural unspoilt
environment provides health, balance and well-being. It flows from a deposit
very low in carbon dioxide.This light water contains all the natural trace elements typical of a volcanic spring, but very small amounts of macroelements.
It can therefore be classified as low in mineral content (mineral salts) and is
consequently ideal for the whole family.

designed to protect the environment and ensure that the ground water remains
unpolluted. For this purpose, the Monticchio Gaudianello S.p.A. Company has implemented an environmental system certified in accordance with the international
ISO14001/2004 standard and adopted measures to ensure that all the land it
owns complies with EC Regulation 2092/91 on Organic Agriculture certified by
the ICEA (Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification).The Monticchio
Gaudianello S.p.A. Company also provides incentives to local farmers planning to
convert their land to organic farming methods.
