Five Unexpected Facts About Pope Francis
Argentine Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, 76, was elected pope on Wednesday (March 13),
taking the name Francis. Here are five things you might not have known about the
church’s newest leader:
1. Despite an Argentine rumor that Bergoglio never smiled, the new pope revealed he
has a sense of humor just after his election. At a dinner with the cardinal electors
Wednesday night, he quipped during a toast: “May God forgive you for what you have
done,” New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan told reporters.
2. The new pope, like most Argentines is an avid soccer fan. Francis is not only a supporter, but is literally a cardcarrying member of Buenos Aires’ San Lorenzo club. Fittingly, the team was named for a priest who let children play
in his church’s courtyard. The club could use some divine help. It’s currently ranked 12th in the Argentine Primera
Division.
3. It’s not just soccer. The pope also likes to dance. “I like the tango a lot, and when I was young I used to dance it,”
he said in a 2010 biography about him “El Jesuita.” He gave up tangoing when he gave up girls and “discovered my
religious vocation.”
4. Following an infection, Bergoglio had a lung removed as a teenager. “He’s a little bit slowed by it,” his biographer
Sergio Rubin has said, but observers say it has not much affected his ability to perform his duties.
The Beatitudes
5. The pope is a social conservative, who attacked Argentina’s decision to legalize gay marriage, calling it “a destructive attack on God’s plan.” But he also made a name for himself by being a surprising voice of social justice in Latin
America. When some priests refused to baptize the children of unwed mothers, Bergoglio took them to task, calling
them “hypocrites.”

Group is joining Rich and Chrissy Bell’s team, Bell’s
Brigade, in the annual Great Strides walk to raise
money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. Great
Strides is run by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a
non-profit donor-supported organization. The focus
is assuring the development of the means to cure
and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality
of life for people living with the disease.
Can you believe it has been a month since Insight? Are you still living the 4th? Are you
having trouble living the 4th? How has that
weekend changed how you look at things?
How has that weekend changed how you look
at yourself?
Join us on Monday April 15 at 7pm for our Insight Reunion. It will be a great time to share
ways you and your groups have continued to
live Insight.
A little prayer is always good!
Thanksgiving After Communion (St. Thomas Aquinas)
I give Thee thanks, O holy Lord, Father Almighty, Eternal God, that Thou hast vouchsafed, for no merit of my own, but of the mere condescension of Thy mercy, to satisfy
me, a sinner and Thine unworthy servant, with the Precious Blood of Thy Son our Lord
Jesus Christ. I implore Thee, let not this Holy Communion be to me an increase of guilt
unto my punishment, but an availing plea unto pardon and forgiveness. Let it be to me
the armor of faith and the shield of good will. Grant that it may work the extinction of
my vices, the rooting out of concupiscence and lust, and the increase within me of
charity and patience, of humility and obedience. Let it be my strong defense against
the snares of all my enemies, visible and invisible; the stilling and the calm of all my
impulses, carnal and spiritual; my indissoluble union with Thee the one and true God,
and a blessed consummation at my last end. And I beseech thee that Thou wouldst
vouchsafe to bring me, sinner as I am, to that ineffable banquet where Thou, with the
Son and the Holy Ghost, art to Thy saints true and unfailing light, fullness and content, joy for evermore, gladness without alloy, consummate and everlasting bliss.
A Prayer for when you’re feeling like you can’t find your purpose.
“You didn't choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit that will last, so that the Father will
give you whatever you ask for, using my name”” (John 15:16)
Heavenly Father,
I look to You in my time of need. I don’t feel like I matter much to people in this world. My self-confidence is
really low right now, and I don’t know where to turn. Do You really have a specific plan for my life? That is an
awesome thought.
Help me to see myself, as You see me. Teach me the things I need to learn to fulfill that purpose. I place myself
into Your hands, because I trust in Your opinion of me. Thank You, Heavenly Father for believing in me. I ask
this in Jesus name. Amen.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake:
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Youth Group’s Mission
Community = Youth Group should provide a “place to be” for high school students,
something separate from home and school and “real” unlike virtual escapes and online
communities. Youth Group should be a place for like-minded, faith-seeking teenagers
who can come to YG to make friends and/or spend time with friends. Most
importantly, Youth Group provides a safe environment for kids to be themselves and
maybe even discover a new piece of themselves.
Education & Spirituality = Youth Group’s mission is to both educate and help kids
tap into their spirituality by addressing fundamental questions such as Who is God?
How do we find him in the world? How do we function as Christians in the world?
How do we communicate with God?
