Committed to the development of dance as an important art form, WHITE WAVE scours the globe in search of the most innovative of today's dancemakers, both emerging and established, and brings them to Brooklyn for one extended weekend. For four nights and three days, dance lovers will experience a veritable cornucopia of the best of contemporary dance. The DUMBO Dance festival features 70 contemporary dance troupes combining over 325 artists who will present solo, chamber, and full scale works. Dancers from across the United States, Canada, Hungary, Poland, Japan, South Korea, and Italy will join the New York’s active dance community to offer the full range of new directions in dance in the 21st century. Special highlights include a FREE Family Program on Sunday October 1 (12-3pm) offering a Hip-Hop dance class for the whole family and a familyfriendly dance performance. Sunday’s Grand Finale at 8.00 pm features world premieres of works from Oniin Dance Company (Italy), SungOK Choi/ Meta Dance Project (South Korea), The Chimera Project (Canada), Annielille GavinoKollman/Malayaworks (Virginia), of bones||hollye bynum, FJK Dance, Pascal Rekoert/ Flexicurve, Joffrey Ballet School and WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company (USA). The 16th DUMBO Dance Festival is presented in association with the Gelsey Kirkland ArtsCenter at their new state-of-the-arts, 300-seat theater.
