Spring is Just Around the Corner
Guess
what?
Believe it or not,
but spring is
almost here – or so
says the calendar.
Actually, it really
isn’t that far away.
It’s February and winter officially
ends in 47 days – which means
spring starts March 20. Yippee
… Let’s just hope if March does
come in like a lion, that it goes
out like a lamb. So hang in there,
Iowa. Even though we’ve had
more snow than we know what to
do with, it’s almost over.
And, speaking of being almost
over, so is this fraternal year. Can
you believe it? We have 4 months
left. So as you prepare for next
year, keep in mind that it is only
19 weeks away. That’s right only
139 days left before the 2010-11
year starts.
Time flies – especially now
with being on the road again.
Our 2010 travels started with
the January board meeting in
Ankeny. We had a good meeting
and it was nice to see everyone.
Since then, we’ve been to Council
Bluffs’ state charity and a MINK
Committee meeting in Kansas
City, KS.
This month finds us in
Manchester,
Burlington,
Ottumwa, Asbury, Centerville
& Grinnell. We were going to
Fairfield, too, but their plans
changed a little. So will catch
them later. March is full, too,
including Western Zone in Red
Oak.
As for the zones, don’t forget
we will have district entertainment
at both events. And while in Red
Oak, West Pott District and Tall
Corn both have skits. So anyone
from those districts, start planning
your entertainment – it’s only a
month away!
People are definitely talking
EAGLE RIDERS...
Hello Riders and our Eagle
Brothers and Sisters. I want to
thank all that showed up at the
State Board meeting in Ankeny.
It was a really good meeting and
I think we have many things to
work on and we have a lot of
good ideas. I think Ken Grove
made a great comment, Lets Ride.
Everyone would agree with that.
The Iowa Eagle Riders will be
having a Raffle that will include
the whole state. Keep an ear out
for our raffle, we have some really
good items. I will have more on
the Raffle next month.
The State Board meeting was
also where we voted on the next
Eagle Riders State Rally. Iowa
City Eagle Riders will host this
Rally on July 9th, 10th and 11th.
When there is more information,
we will post it.
At the Board Meeting, it was
good to see so many different
Riders Groups talking and
working together. I think if we
share ideas and bring common
interest into play we can all
benefit from it. This time of year
we can organize for the riding
season and we can find different
ways to help others make their
goals. This will be a big year for
the Eagle Riders here in Iowa, so
let’s have some fun and we will
be back on our Bikes before we
know it.
Iowa Eagle Riders State
Coordinator
Dennis Walkup CHECK OUT THE

http://www.foeiowa.com/
about Iowa and the skits we’re
doing. I heard from someone
in southern Missouri who said
they’ve heard we’ve been having
a blast up here. I’d have to agree.
You guys have come together as
a team – young and old, Aerie
& Auxiliary – to do these skits
and that’s great. Some didn’t
think it could be done. Fooled
them, didn’t we? But a lot of the
credit goes to Deb & the Divas.
You’ve done an awesome job &
can’t wait to see what’s ahead. In
fact, maybe with a little planning,
we could do something similar
at MINK in April – with each
state doing a short skit sometime
during the weekend. What do you
think? Personally, judging from
what we’ve already seen, I think
it would be a riot. Some that go
to MINK are pretty funny when
they aren’t even trying. Just think
what they could do if they put
their mind to it.
Until next time, look on the
bright side. Winter’s about over
– it won’t be long before spring
flooding!
Life isn’t about waiting for
the storm to pass … it’s about
learning to dance in the rain.

Thanks so much for all you have done so far. Your
response to the state charity and hospitality is second to
none. We look forward to seeing all of you as we travel
around the state. With your help, I am sure that we will
reach Kim and Greg’s goal this year. We believe that this
research center will be the second miracle in the fight to
cure diabetes. Eagles are the most fascinating people. They raise money for charity and they volunteer their
help and ask for nothing in return. So until we see you
again, be safe and do what you do best by supporting our
Eagle charities.

Notes From The Negotiator
I know everyone is just “Feelin’ Groovy”
because of all this awesome weather we are
having!!!! Right??? Well I sure hope you are
bringing your groupies back to the sessions! I
don’t know if you feel this way…but if I didn’t
have the suppers going on at our home Aerie,
I wouldn’t be able to be out and about!! It gives me a
reason to get going, knowing that we are raising money
for our charities!! Give those dropped gals a reason
to come back! You will probably have an awesome
volunteer to help you out!! Why not give it a try? Keep
up all of your good work, I’m so proud of you all!!!

Let’s Play Some Football...
Wow time is really flying by quickly! It’s hard to
believe our year is half over already. We have a busy
next 3 months and Krista and I are having a great
time making our visits to each club. It is amazing
how hard the Fraternal Order of Eagles members
are working to raise money for charity. The DRC is
coming along nicely, we drive by the University at
least once a month as we travel to see the progress. Diabetes effects 16
million people in the United States with a new case diagnosed every
20 seconds. Think about that number my brothers and sisters, every 20
seconds, could be you, your spouse, parent or child being diagnosed.
The Eagles has made it our mission to help find a cure for diabetes
and we need your help to raise the $25 million we have committed.
When the weather breaks, try organizing a Diabetes Fundraising Walk.
Stanford University did one with 250 staff, students and community
members and raised a whopping $27,633. I am currently trying to get
in contact with Jay Cutler, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears who
was diagnosed a year ago with diabetes. Seems ironic that my theme
for the year is the Bears, so I’ll end this with “Don’t
forget to
Bear Down and Sign One Up For Gregus.”
Fraternally,
Greg Martin
Iowa State President 2009-10
Music, Music, Music!
WOW! WOW! WOW! You
Managers are just awesome! Not
only did you prove that December
doesn’t have to be our slowest
month in the year but you outdid
yourselves! THREE MORE
AUXILIARIES BURNED A
“GOLD
RECORD”
- Burlington #150,
Oskaloosa #276, and
Fairfield #1927. What
a GREAT Christmas
Present that was for SMP
Kim and GMP Jean.
WHAT’S
EVEN
BETTER is that we are
still ahead of our good Brothers
of the State Aerie - With our bet
of 2-1/2(Us) to 1(Aerie) we have
997.5 to 854. My Challenge to
all of you is that we can’t rest
on our laurels - that means they
only need 143.5 to catch up to us
and we aren’t waiting for them
-RIGHT MANAGERS!!!! We
are still ahead in our bets with
Nebraska and Kansas and trailing
Missouri just a little - Arizona
decided to go gangbusters this
year so we would have to work
REALLY hard to catch up to them
but hey, maybe that will be a good
challenge for the rest of the year HOW ABOUT IT MANAGERS!
ARE YOU GAME FOR THIS
CHALLENGE?
There are still 4 Auxiliaries
that have not signed up
a GROUPIE this year!
Managers, the success of
your recording session
and of our organization
depends on keeping
our current members
involved in activities at
the Club and bringing in
new groupies so we can grow. So,
Managers help your Aux. out check out the report - Is your Aux.
one of those four? If so, surely
there is someone you all know who
would benefit from membership
in this great FRATERNAL
ORGANIZATION.
Until next month - Keep those
Contracts at hand and work on
signing up some Groupies!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Card of
Thanks
Thank you so much to our Eagle family for your
thoughts, prayers, calls, and cards in the recent
passing of my Brother. It really means a lot to us.
Jerry ‘Jake’ and Barb Roush
I want to thank all for the cards, thoughts and
prayers to help me in my time of need. Very
truthful, I was ready to die. I am getting better but
with my young age seems to take me extra time
and I don’t have that with my budget! My body
says don’t move, but my finances says help! Guess
what, time to move! Hope to see all soon and take
care. Thanks again,
Sheryl Cook, PSP
Thank you, my Eagle Sisters and Brothers, from
Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri for your outpouring
of love and caring through cards and calls I
received during my illness. It meant a lot to me
and was very comforting. I feel very privileged to
have so many friends throughout Eagledom, and
to know so many cared.
Wilma Schick, PSMP, PRMP
It’s time I take the opportunity to recognize
all of you who called, sent cards, emails, and
made personal visits in the past months. Losing a
kidney to a cancerous mass was quite a blow but
your prayers pulled me through and to the road of
recovery. The experts at the U of I say they got it
all and there will be no treatments as long as scans
come back clean for a couple years. The rest of this
program is up to god and the doctors. My heartfelt
“Thanks” to YOU ALL is for your prayers and
eagle family devotion that kept my spirits out of the
gutter. I was repeatedly told I was a very high risk
for surgery and because of its nature everything
seemed rather bleak at times. Regardless of what
the future holds I can say I am truly a blessed
man for being a part of the F.O.E. and for you
allowing be me to be a part of your family. As of
this writing I’m headed out to do another eagle
auction so, I will see you on the eagle trail again!!
Thank You Again and God Bless You ALL!

Diva Entertainment News
With
winter
upon us, it’s a
perfect time to get
people inside by
hosting a karaoke
contest or talent show in your
clubs. This could be a great way
to raise money for a charity or
introduce people to the Eagles
and sign up new members. I’m
sure that there is a lot of untapped
talent in Iowa and in your
hometowns.
Spring zones are just around the
corner – W Zone in Red Oak will
have Tallcorn District (Saturday
Night Live) and W Pott (Shindig)
performing for us. Thanks to the
gals that stepped in to get these
skits planned! I do know from
reliable resources that there will
be some special entertainment
also….Plan on attending….You
just never know what you will
see!

Hi Sisters and Daughters,
Well here it is another month
gone by and I still don’t have
even 100% from any of the
districts. We have one district that
only needs one more and they
will have 100%. I will send up
a flare if West Pot. gets Council
Bluffs to send in theirs. I would
be able to really write the lyrics to
a song!!!!!
Was at board and was really
happy to see all, miss everyone
Memorial Foundation
Hi, I am DeLores ‘Dee’ Calkins
from Tama-Toledo #2828, your
Memorial Foundation Chairman
for this year. It is indeed one of
the most important charities we
have. If you don’t know what it is
all about, please check it out.
Send me your report. If you
don’t have one, get busy and do
something for this one. They are
all very worthy.
Send only your report to me,
Dee Calkins, 2658 X Avenue,

and your check to the Auxiliary
Secretary Cindy Balsanek.

when we

some chance you haven’t made
your New Year’s resolution yet,
maybe you could make one to
send in your lyrics to me.
Will see you on the Eagles trail
and nagging you to get your lyrics
in!

State Auxiliary Heart Charity
Greetings Sisters;
As we are already into 2010 and this is my first year to be a State
Auxiliary Charity Chairperson I was a little unsure exactly what I
needed to do. But I will be ready at the State Convention. I know you
all have been working hard to raise lots of money for our Heart Charity
the first half of the year. Hopefully February and the remainder of the
year will bring in lots more money.
Remember to send your money to the State Secretary, Cindy Balsanek
and send your report to me, don’t be late.
Thanks and keep raising money,
Deb Kressley, Chairperson

WCR Cancer Fund
Do you know that there are 177
different types of cancer? From
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia
to Wilms tumor (kidney cancer),
childhood and the 175 types in
between; your donations are
needed to continue to do research
for finding cures for all of these
types of cancer.
Not a day goes by without
having someone diagnosed with
this dreaded disease. I would
be willing to bet that everyone
reading this has been affected by
cancer at one time or another.
You still have 5 months to
raise money for the Grand Aerie
Cancer Fund. If your Auxiliary
hasn’t done so yet, PLEASE plan
your cancer fund raiser as quickly
as possible. Have you tried doing
a man pageant, an adult over 21
prom, a 50’s sock hop, talent
contest, and any of the other
wonderful ideas? You can always
serve a special meal (who doesn’t
like to eat?). Please let me know
what your Auxiliary has been or

BEAR DOWN! SIGN 2.5 UP FOR THE AERIE
We are in trouble. The Ladies are 144 ahead us as of the end of the
year. We are at 854, the ladies are at 399. Multiply the 399 by 2.5 and
they have 998. Let’s get it going guys.
As I stated at the Mid-winter board meeting , I would like us to not
only reach Greg’s goal of 1991, but to surpass the 2000 mark. WE
CAN DO IT. Spread the word around. Every Iowa Eagle owes at least
2.5 members this year!
Coach’s Tip of the Month:
Excessive celebration is ALLOWED. Be proud of serving the FOE,
by adding more power to our great team. Tell others, earn your awards,
show off your awards, encourage others to gain the same.

Have you checked out FOE Iowa Web Site since June 1st
yet? There is a Web Page set-up for ALL 41 Iowa Aeries &
Auxiliaries! (3 have their own Webmasters), the new State
Webmaster, Bill Drury, is doing the rest. The Web Site is setup to be not only informative, but also entertaining!
Please check yours out & be sure it’s up-to date! (Officers,
Meetings, Location, etc.) You can find them all at:

Also let me know of any “Special” wallpaper, music, etc. you

The best way to send the information is by the “File” you

If you don’t have a PDF “Converter” Program, don’t worry, I
do & I can convert it into a “Printable” File to Post. It’s a

It’s also a good way of preventing having more then
