Al Hosn Gas
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was established in 1971 to operate in all areas of the oil
and gas industry and since then has steadily broadened its activity in establishing companies and
subsidiaries and creating an integrated oil and gas industry in the fields of exploration and production,
support services, oil refining and gas processing, chemicals and petrochemicals, maritime transportation
and refined products and distribution. The Supreme Petroleum Council (SPC), chaired by His Highness
Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al- Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, formulates and
oversees the implementation of Abu Dhabi petroleum policies. ADNOC has 15 subsidiary companies
working in the various fields of the oil, gas, and petrochemical industry as well as crude oil and gas
transport and services. They include ADCO, ADMA-OPCO, GASCO, ADGAS, ZADCO, TAKREER, NDC,
ESNAAD, IRSHAD, FERTIL, BOROUGE, ADNATCO-NGSCO, ADNOC Distribution, Elixier and Al Hosn Gas.
Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Ltd. (GASCO) is the operating company in Abu Dhabi responsible for
processing onshore natural gas and associated gas from onshore oil production. The Company was
incorporated in 1978 as a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as
majority shareholder (68%), Shell Abu Dhabi (15%), Total (15%) and Partex (2%). In April 2001,
Abu Dhabi Gas Company (ATHEER), wholly owned by ADNOC, was integrated with GASCO, followed
in March 2004 by the transfer to GASCO of responsibility for operating the Asab Gas Plant, also wholly
owned by ADNOC GASCO processes associated and non-associated gas in addition to Sulphur as a
by-product of sour gas processing. The gas processing and the extraction of Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs)
takes place at four desert plants, the Habshan-Bab Gas Complex, the Bu Hasa NGL Plant, the Asab NGL
Plant and the Asab Gas Plant. The NGLs are transferred to the Ruwais Fractionation Plant, where they
are processed to produce Ethane, Propane, Butane and Pentane+.
The Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) operates onshore and in shallow coastal
water of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, one of the seven members of the United Arab Emirates which was
established on 2nd December 1971. The original concession agreement was made with Petroleum
Development (Trucial Coast) Ltd. On 11th January 1939, but geological work did not begin until after
the Second World War. Exploratory drilling began in Abu Dhabi in February 1950. The First commercial
oil discovery was made at Bab in 1960, and exports began from the Jebel Dhanna terminal on 14th
December 1963. In 1962, the Company was renamed the Abu Dhabi Petroleum Company, ADPC.
On 1st January 1973, the Government of Abu Dhabi acquired a 25% interest, which was increased
to 60% as from 1st January 1974. The Government interest is held by the Abu Dhabi National Oil
Company, ADNOC.
In the early seventies, and during a visit to an oil production facility, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan
Al Nahyan noticed the flaring of associated gas into the atmosphere and inquired how this can be
stopped. This was the background against which ADGAS was established in 1973 to become the first
LNG production company in the whole Middle East region. For the past four decades, ADGAS has been
the regional pioneer in LNG and LPG production and marketing, thanks to the company’s compliance
with the best international practices in the fields of industrial reliability and integrity, building on
the history and expertise of its shareholders, ADNOC, Mitsui & Co. Ltd., BP and Total. With the
commissioning of its Offshore Associated Gas (OAG) project and, later, the Integrated Gas Development
(IGD) project, ADGAS aspires to play a key role in meeting Abu Dhabi’s growing needs for natural gas.
ADMA-OPCO is a pioneering oil and gas exploration and production company whose operations date
back to the 1950’s. With its operations centered in the offshore areas of Abu Dhabi, ADMA-OPCO came
into being as a locally incorporated company on 3rd July 1977. Oil and gas production comes from
two major oil fields, Umm Shaif and Lower Zakum, from which crude oil is transferred to Das Island for
processing, storage and export. In 1962, the first crude shipment, which came from Umm Shaif, was
exported from Abu Dhabi through Das Island. ADMA-OPCO’s Vision, Mission and Values incorporate
a wide range of goals, including sustainable development, operational excellence and overcoming
challenges, while nurturing human resources, fulfilling social responsibilities and realizing the Company’s
workforce nationalization targets. The Company uses innovative and emerging technologies to further
improve its operations and ensure optimal utilization of Abu Dhabi natural mineral resources, while
taking into consideration environment conservation. ADNOC holds a majority share of 60% in ADMAOPCO, while BP, Total and JODCO share the remaining 40%.

Al Hosn Gas was established on February 1, 2010. The new company is based in Abu Dhabi and
recognized and honored as one of the proud ADNOC Group of Companies. The purpose of the
company is to develop the sour gas reservoirs located in the Shah Field onshore of Abu Dhabi. This will
include extraction of the sour gas, liquid hydrocarbons and sulphur from the reservoirs, construction and
operation of all facilities required to produce, transfer, process, meter, store, transport and deliver the
sour gas from the production wells to the delivery points and marketing sulphur for export abroad. The
project will involve several gas gathering systems, construction of processing trains to handle one billion
cubic feet per day gas at Shah to produce 500 million cubic feet per day of network gas, 4,400 tons per
day of Natural Gas Liquids, 35,000 bpd of Condensates and 10,000 tons per day of sulphur granulation,
storage and shipping facility near the plant, in addition to the construction of sulphur exporting facilities
at Ruwais Industrial Complex. The company aims to successfully develop and operate the Shah
Field utilizing the highest engineering standards, optimal construction and maintenance practices,
environmentally sustainable safe operating processes, premier technology and leading competitive
strategies. The company will provide a professional high- performance environment for the development
of national and expatriate employees and will act responsibly for the well-being of the communities
where it operates.

Global Energy Industry Faces Transformational Game
Changers in 2013 in the Wake of $100 Oil
The global energy industry is witnessing the most transformational shake-up since a wave of takeovers in the late 1990s created
the super-majors as a series of Game Changers look set to alter the landscape in 2013. In the wake of $10 oil in the late 1990s we
witnessed significant consolidation in the energy industry with a wave of M&A activity redefining the sector. In the wake of $100
oil we are witnessing a new transformation, less defined perhaps but equally as dramatic – NOCs are becoming IOCs; Supermajors
are slimming down; Independents are now the primary risk pioneers; Service companies are taking on IOC activities and Trading
firms are building asset bases. The quadrupling of crude prices over the last decade has also triggered a black-gold rush in East
Africa and unleashed the Shale Revolution that has set the U.S. on course towards the holy grail of energy independence.
The forum will today explore these Game Changers that will be challenging our industry for many Tomorrows.
