Are you beginning to scramble to find activities and camps for your child this summer? Well, look no further. Recreation & Community Education has a great lineup of programs and camps this summer that are sure to pique any child’s interest and guarantee a fun and memorable experience. From a variety of sports & enrichment camps to our all day summer camp (Camp Seaside), and Teen Treks Adventure Camp, we have something for everyone! Sunday to Sundae 5K & LL Bean Kayak Raffle Freeport Community Services was the site on Sunday, June 1 for RSU5 Recreation & Community Education and The PORT Teen Center’s first Annual Sunday to Sundae 5K & Kayak Raffle. A total of 62 runners came out to support The PORT Teen Center on a beautiful, sunny 70 degree morning. Overall winners of the event were Laurie Scott (25:35) and Peter Heslam (20:14). The PORT’s own Liam Gallagher came in third overall with a time of 21:02. The winner of the LL Bean Kayak Raffle was Julie Quimby of Freeport. Following the race, runners enjoyed ice cream sundaes donated by Ben & Jerry’s of Freeport. The event raised over $2000 for the PORT Teen Center. Page 2 Camp Seaside - A great option for summer day camp Camp Seaside is a small summer day camp for kids entering grades K - 5. This camp originated over 30 years ago at Winslow Park, where it was run out of the current park manager’s home. Today, camp operates out of Mast Landing School in Freeport with weekly visits to beautiful Winslow Park. Each week, campers will go on a highlight trip, visit local beaches, participate in arts & crafts, sports & games and more! Highlight trips include Splashtown, Aquaboggan, Seadogs Games, York’s Wild Animal Kingdom and more. For a listing of highlight trips, call our office at 8656171. Camp fees are only $180 per week (except the week of July 4, which is $120) and includes the following… • Care from 7:00 am - 5:30 pm • Daily lunch provided through the USDA Federally Funded Summer Lunch Program, served by Freeport Community Services. Camp Seaside was recently voted as the • All event & field trips “Best of the Best” for area camps in the Tri-Town Weekly’s 2014 Readers Choice Contest. Teen Treks Adventure Camp! Do you have a 6th - grader or older who needs a good way to spend the summer? Look no further, Teen Treks is your answer! Overnight white water rafting trips, sailing in Casco bay, high ropes courses, zip lining, sea kayaking, amusement parks, local beaches and much more! It doesn’t get much better! Camp runs Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm from June 23 August 14. Camp is based out of The PORT Teen Center on Depot St. and led by Darryn DuShane, PORT Teen Center Coordinator. “The best journeys in life are those that answer questions you never thought to ask.” ~ Rich Ridgeway Limited space available per week, so register soon! Enrollment forms are available on our website at www.rsu5-rce.org under the “Laugh & Learn Childcare” tab. Freeport Youth Competes at Fenway! On Saturday, May 30 2014, Freeport’s own Anthony Panciocco competed at Major League Baseball’s official skills competition, Pitch, Hit & Run, at Fenway Park in Boston. Anthony, a 5th grader at Mast Landing School in Freeport, competed in the boys ages 9/10 division and finished third! Anthony originally won the local competition in Freeport, then again at the Southern Maine Sectional in Old Orchard Beach. His score from the Sectional held up against other winners throughout New England and he qualified to participate in the Team Championship at Fenway Park in Boston. What a great experience and overall accomplishment. CONGRATS ANTHONY!
