AU TUMN WINTER 2007
My new collection takes you on an exotic trip back in time to
experience the glamour and excess of the Orient in the 1920’s.
Inspired by my grandmother’s memory of travels during a time
when it was considered the height of glamour to visit Shanghai,
spending evenings in Art Deco night clubs and days by peaceful
water gardens, my imagination took me to a place where Emperors’
swathed in rare silks, welcome stylish noble guests in preparation for High
Tea. The fragrance of Plum Blossom floating on the late afternoon breeze through
the lavish Imperial Palace grounds where beautiful courtesans gather, captures the
essence of oriental culture while embracing new western fashion. The collection
for Autumn/Winter 2007 encompasses these magical times gone by, a history rich
in ceremony and grand tradition.

Spencer & Rutherford’s collection for Autumn/Winter 2007
embodies the glamour and excess of 1920’s Shanghai, the Paris
of the East! Boldly detailed textural combinations reminiscent
of traditional Chinese silks combined with art deco styling, soft
shades of jade, rosehip and jasmine, represent an historical journey
through the rich lands of the orient. The vibrant fusion of east
meets west is apparent in vivid fabrics featuring wood block prints,
graphic stenciled pattern and bamboo detailing, all exhibiting the
strength of the old world oriental arts while colours such as Tea
Merchant, Silk Road and Black Lacquer communicate the
harmony of the Far East with a modern twist.
