a police officer!
The library will also be welcoming a group called Jester Puppets on Friday,

technology and good old fashioned puppet fun, the H.E.R.O.s will be a hit for the

of wild beasts.” This book is sure to have something for everyone!
All teens will get a copy of the book to keep at the first meeting. In each meeting we’ll discuss the
book, eat pizza, and enjoy fun crafts and activities. The last meeting will include a special viewing of the
movie! Our first meeting is on Monday, June 15 at 2:00 pm. Other meeting dates include June 29, July 20 and

June is a busy and exciting time at Spencer Public Library. The Adult Summer Reading
Program is beginning and we encourage you to join. In fact, tell your friends, co-workers,
and family that they could win fabulous prizes by reading books, attending adult Spencer
Public Library programs, or writing book reviews. The library will have nine prize drawings
throughout June and July with the grand prize being a Kindle Fire! So, sign up for the
Adult Summer Reading Program today!
Not only will you have a chance to win prizes, but the programming is superb. We are
kicking off our Adult Summer Reading Program Escape the Ordinary on June 5 from 12:30
– 6:00 with an open house registration. So stop by, sign-up, and decorate a cookie.
The library is beginning the SRP with a northern Iowa native, photographer and explorer,
David Thoreson: Personal Adventures and Explorations of the Northwest Passage. David
will talk about, and show stunningly beautiful photographs of his three separate journeys
sailing through the Northwest Passage. David is nationally known and his work appeared
in National Park Service magazine, Smithsonian, Wall Street Journal and on PBS. This
program will be brought to you by Spencer Public Library and Humanities Iowa.
As always, we have had tremendous community support from businesses in Spencer.
Look for our current SRP sponsor list in this newsletter and be sure to thank them for their
support of your local library.
I hope everyone has a great summer! Happy Reading!

It’s Audio Book Appreciation Month! If you’ve never tried an audiobook,
June would be a great month to do so. Car trips go so much faster with an
exciting story pouring out of your speakers, or relax at the lake or in your
backyard with a great story. We have audiobooks available on cd and
electronically through WILBOR. Come on in and check one out!
Happy Father’s Day to all our dads out there! Thanks for all you do. To
celebrate dad, stop in and browse a collection of books, movies, and
audiobooks with dad in mind. Whether he fishes, paints, camps, builds, grills,
or even knits (I know an awesome dad who knits), we have something with
him in mind!
Don’t forget to sign up for Summer Reading Club. Kids, teens, adults,
