Because it is so time consuming to sort
proven nutrition facts from opinions
and traditions I have to keep extending
the reprint date. But I can now see real
hope in putting an end to the needless
suffering and deaths over the past 60
years caused by our move away from
saturated fats to processed vegetable
fats and oils. These are far too high in
Omega 6 fat. It was a huge mistake and
it is now recognised that it was lack of
Omega 3, not saturated animal fats that
caused the cardiovascular problems in
the 1950’s.
We are getting many excellent reports
back from our customers who are using
this product.
When our Omega 6 fat intake exceeds
our Omega 3 by more than a 9 to1 ratio,
our immune system becomes depressed.
Currently the New Zealand average is
about 16 to 1. This is why we have so
many serious health disorders all around
us. We should minimise margarine and
baked and processed foods containing
vegetable fat. Stick with butter, even
though it is more expensive, and eat
more Omega 3 rich fish, fish oil or flax
seed to redress our Omega 3 – Omega 6
imbalance.
Testing our ‘capsule-in-acapsule’ Probiotic Multi 9’s
Our probiotic manufacturer told us that
our ‘capsule-in-a capsule’ Probiotic Multi
9 does not need to be refrigerated. But
we like to check and test claims. So we
have been sending both refrigerated
and non-refrigerated samples away for
independent laboratory testing every
3 months. We are pleased with the test
results and find that there is only a very
slight benefit in refrigeration. However
as moisture is the thing that affects
probiotics the most, taking a bottle in

I have been personally testing our new
Spirulina/Alfalfa/Barley Grass/Whey Protein
powder mix called Protein Boost (see cover
page). These foods are about as healthy as
you can get. I first tested the plain version
and found it smooth but a bit plain. So I
added a dash of my Cinnamon/Ginger/
Stevia drink mix to it and it was delicious. I
love it. The dark green colour of the barley
grass can be a bit off putting at first but the
taste and texture is excellent. You can add
whatever flavouring or sweetening you
prefer, or add it to a smoothie. I’ve tried
barley powder drinks before and found
them ‘yuk’, but this blend is a winner. Our

Every cell
needs protein
We humans are 18-20% protein
by weight. Our skin, hair, cartilage,
tendons, muscles and bones are all
composed of the different proteins.
Every cell needs protein for different
metabolic processes – hormones and
enzymes are essentially proteins.
Proteins are made up from amino
acids. To provide a complete protein
to the body we must provide all eight
essential amino acids. There are
approximately 22 amino acids, that are
the primary components of protein,
with adults requiring eight ‘essentials’
that we cannot make. These eight
must always be provided by foods
in the diet – tryptophan, leucine,
lysine, methionine, phenylalanine,
isoleucine, valine and threonine. A
very important part of good nutrition
is providing all these essential amino
acids.
Meat, eggs, fish and dairy products
are all complete proteins as they
provide a full complement of these
eight essential amino acids. If we
eliminate these foods from our
diet, we risk a protein deficiency
and supplementation should be
considered.
As we age proteins become vital for
keeping our musculature – even the
heart is a muscle.
Ageing, weight loss and just generally
growing old gracefully are prime
reasons to supplement an easily
absorbed protein powder in our diet.
The era we are living in is so very
much focused on carbohydrates and
often protein is forgotten. It does
not necessarily mean just eating a
big hunk of meat, as by correctly
combining foods, our amino acid ratios
can increase, i.e. legumes/nuts/seeds

Health Hint article by David Coory
David Coory is the author of the nutrition book “Stay Healthy by

My daily health routine
Being a health fanatic, I’m often asked
about my daily health routine and
supplements.
I exercise 6 mornings a week for about 30
minutes in my small home gym.
For breakfast I have a whey protein
milkshake with a teaspoon of our
American Colostrum added and an egg.
I take this to try and prevent muscle loss
due to age (I turn 65 in Dec). I used to
skip breakfast to have a clearer mind for
writing, but find a protein drink doesn’t
cause drowsiness as did a carb breakfast.
Mid-morning I have a fruit, usually a
kiwifruit, and a glass of water mixed with
ginger, cinnamon and Stevia. Lately I’ve
started testing our new Protein Boost and
like it so much I now add 2 tsps of this
to my drink. I also take my daily CoQ10Omega3 capsule and either a DHEA
7-Keto or one of our Boron+Selenium
capsules. I take the DHEA to maintain
healthy levels of this youth hormone and
Boron and Selenium help keep joints and
prostate healthy, maintain testosterone
and keep my immune system in good
order. These two minerals are in CAA but
the extra seems to help.
Lunchtime I usually have two sandwiches
(typically butter and banana) using my
homemade wholemeal bread. Sometimes
instead I’ll have wheat porridge (which I
grind myself with 20% ground flaxseed
added) made with milk and topped
with cream and our Stevia Sprinkle for
sweetening. Or once a week a small plate
of salmon and avocado mixed with our
seasoned RealSalt. Really nice.
I finish my lunch with 2 brazil nuts,
eaten with a date, which I find a tasty
combination. Finally an orange, pear or
feijoa according to season.
I try and avoid the chocolate biscuits,
etc, that my sweet-toothed wife Marie
temptingly displays in the pantry, not
always successfully. Also my 93 year old
Mum, who would like to see me plumper
than my 70kg (176cm height and 83cm
waist) bakes for me. So Sundays I often
skip breakfast and lunch to atone for my
lunch diet sins of the week.
My next food is our evening meal, usually
prepared by my wife and of her own
choosing, typical Kiwi fare, veggies, fish, etc.
I prepare a quick dessert myself, canned
fruit or stewed rhubarb from the garden,
with unsweetened yoghurt and a little
cream on top, sprinkled with Stevia
Sprinkle.
I then have a warm Milo drink, made
with full cream milk (from a local dairy
farm) and stir in a tsp of molasses. I
love it. Finally I finish off with one of my
homemade, wholewheat afghans, half a
slice of my bread buttered and an apple.
Then my daily CAA and Coral C capsule
with a glass of water mixed with ginger
and stevia. Nothing else before bed.
Some nights around 10pm I’ll go out for
a 10 minute run followed by a 15 minute
brisk walk.
