Browsing the
Paramus Public Library
Top 10 Reasons to Visit the Paramus Library
10. “All the News That Fits in Print”
The library subscribes to many local and
regional newspapers, such as the Town
News, Record, Star-Ledger, New York
Times, Daily News, Wall Street Journal,
and USA Today. Stop by to read the comics or when you find your own newspaper
in a puddle at the end of your driveway!
9.
No Time To Read a Book?
Try an audio book. Visit the library and
browse our collection or download an
audio book onto an iPod, MP3 player, to
your computer or burn to a disc. Listen in
the car. Not only do they pass the time but
also drown out the sounds of “back seat
drivers.”
STOP, DROP AND ROLL The Paramus Public Library celebrates fire safety month with a visit from
Engine 3 (Midland Avenue Fire Company #3) of the Paramus Fire Department.
8.
Tired of Paying To Rent DVDs?
Why not use your library card and borrow recent titles for
free! We are continuously adding to our collections of movies, foreign films, and television series.
7.
Without Music Life Would B♭ (Flat)
Check out a Billboard Top 20 or a “Golden Oldie” from our
music CD collection—thousands of titles to browse through
from any decade.
6.
Access to Information Experts
Librarians are professionally trained to help you find what
you’re looking for at the library. They provide the right
information to the right person at the right time.
5.
Not Everything Is on the Internet
The internet is a fabulous resource, but contrary to popular
belief, not everything is on the internet, nor is much of the
information verified or current. Also, some of the information on the Web consists of subscription services for which
you will need to pay. Before you spend money on these services, check out the databases made available in the library
and from home with your card. We have already paid for
them, so your access is free of charge.
4.
Entertainment
There are programs for people of all ages taking place
regularly at the library. Check the library’s Web site, visit
the library, or just look inside this newsletter for storytimes,
English classes, concerts, film programs, book discussions,
and lecture schedules.
3.
Kid Stuff
There’s so much for kids to do at the library! The Paramus
Public Library offers storytimes, arts and crafts, puppet
shows, summer reading program, outdoor concerts, author
visits, and a poetry contest—just to name a few!
2.
Read Any Good Books Lately?
Books, books, books, books, books, books, books, books,
and more books. Read to your heart’s content.
1.
The American Dream
Libraries are a part of the American Dream—places for education, inspiration, and lifelong learning. Wherever life takes
you, the library can help you get there!

Budget Crunch
he library staff carefully looked at what services we offer and made some
very difficult decisions about which ones may have to be eliminated.
As of December 1, 2009, the library no longer offers “Next Reads” reader advisory services. To help find “read-alikes,” please ask an Adult Services Librarian
or use Novelist, which is available through www.bccls.org.
Giving Thanks

Staying Focused on Your Needs
T
he Paramus Library is dedicated to anticipating our patrons’ needs and providing excellent service. During the months of October and November, the
library conducted a series of four focus groups. These groups were comprised
of Paramus Library patrons representing the diverse demographics of our town.
The focus groups were organized to understand
how the library is perceived by the residents
and what they think of the various services and
programs offered by the library. All of this is being done in order to better serve the residents of
Paramus and members of the BCCLS community.
In the coming months the information gathered
during the sessions will be shared with library
trustees as they plan programs and other initiatives in the coming year. A heartfelt thank you
to all focus group participants. Your feedback is
greatly appreciated.
