Under the Auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović Pre-congress courses Live surgery International conference OPATIJA THE GRAND HOTEL 4 OPATIJSKA CVIJETA 25-28 MAY 2016 GYN 75 1.0 09/2015/A-E Discover New Horizons in Hysteroscopy Combine the reusable hysteroscopic IBS® shaver with the innovative fluid management system Hysteromat E.A.S.I.® KARL STORZ GmbH & Co. KG, Mittelstraße 8, 78532 Tuttlingen/Germany, www.karlstorz.com 2 Dear participants, I would like to thank you for your interest in the Minimal Invasive Way to treat your patients. Minimal Invasive Gynaecological Surgery, be it endoscopic or vaginal, is at this moment still in most circumstances the “Golden Standard” to treat your patients with major gynaecological surgical problems. We have however acquired some “Standards of Care” i.e. the hysteroscopic resection of uterine septa and the assisted vaginal hysterectomy. The “Golden Standard” meaning the best and most progressive way to treat your patients whilst the “Standard of Care” means the treatment you have to provide your patients with, if you do not use this treatment you could be liable in court. This means that ISGE does firmly support our sister societies in getting out guidelines to support i.e. vaginal hysterectomy and endoscopic assisted hysterectomy to the point that we do advise our members that if they do not master these techniques they have to seek the help of a colleague who is experienced or to refer their patients to gynaecological surgeons who do master these techniques. The ISGE guideline on Safe Abdominal Entry has been published recently in the European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology. For the first time we will accept members to get a certification as a first step to the final accreditation to ISGE certified Gynecologic Endoscopic Surgeon. Going through the program I am proud to be able, in the name of ISGE, to present to you a great number of world-renowned top gynecological surgeons. Going through the free communications and the symposia I see that lots of colleagues have brought together their experiences to chair with you. I am particularly proud of our YEP (Young Endoscopic Platform) who have put together an excellent program. I wish you a very fruitful conference and I sincerely hope that being here will not only bring you a lot of knowledge but above all will change the way you treat your patients. Yours truly, Bruno van Herendael President ISGE 3 Dear colleagues and friends, It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Croatia, land of thousand islands and the beautiful blue Adriatic Sea, for ISGE 25th Annual Congress & 4th Croatian Congress on minimally invasive gynecological surgery to be held in Opatija, from May 25th to May 28th 2016. Opatija, the pearl of the Adriatic Sea is elegant tourist destination that lies at the centre of the Riviera with the longest tradition of tourism in Croatia. We will discuss all the aspects of this exciting field of medicine, placing a special emphasis on new technology. The Congress is an unique opportunity to learn and to share innovative and best practice, ideas and experiences with colleagues from all over the world. Wherever you work, take this opportunity to break away from your daily routine, in order to discover new approaches and to get acquainted with the lessons learned. But most of all to network and to return home with new knowledge, insight, ideas and newly motivated to your work and colleagues. We hope to call upon endoscopists from all over the world and prestigious international faculties in order to promote minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and its benefits. There will be a significant place oriented towards „Junior“ surgeons, where audio-visual presentations on interesting cases and complications will be discussed. At last, the city of Opatija, one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean, offers a friendly and welcoming atmosphere within its architecture and rich culture. Exciting social events and excursions will be offered since Opatija is the most wonderful at this time of the year. Taking this chance, I thank you for participation in the congress that will never be a success without your presence. This inevitably exposes patients to inexperienced healthcare practitioners, and the dangers and harm associated with this are increasingly unacceptable. The term ‘learning curve’ has repeatedly been used to account for higher complication and mortalities, as well as longer procedure times, among inexperienced practitioners and teams. Climbing the steep learning curve can no longer be done by trial and error, so it is necessary to explore, define and implement models of health professional training that do not expose the patient to preventable errors. One such model is simulation-based training. There are three broad domains in which simulation is used by healthcare professionals. First, simulation techniques can be used for practice and assessment of technical procedures. This can take a variety of forms ranging from simple bench models to sophisticated virtual reality machines. Second, simulated or standardized patients have long been used to teach clinical skills and are the foundation for performancebased assessment. Third, simulation technologies have been used for team training, improving function in tension-filled complex situations.
