Cornucopia - Jardins de Métis
Cornucopia Hercules ripped a horn off the head of the shape-shifting river God Achelous in a mythic battle between man and nature. From this broken horn or cornucopia, pour Nature’s endless gifts, seven of which are displayed in our garden. Wrath (ira), Greed (avaritia), Sloth (acedia), Pride (superbia), Lust (luxuria), Envy (invidia), Gluttony (gula). How much of what we do is driven by sin? There is no need to answer out loud, but the Cornucopia Garden affords a personal reflection in seven themed confessionals. Here a visitor might stroll into lust as the corn around grows from seedling to ripeness. The space itself will change from an open lawn to an agricultural enclosure over the course of the growing season. The simplicity of the design attunes the guest to the vegetable flow of the season and confronts the wheel of sin. In the Cornucopia Garden seven sins align in a wheel and Nature drives our passions around and around with the whip of instinct. There is no escape. These Sins are us. ira avaritia Plant list: Corn Shaped plantings of corn, growing from seeds through to 2m high acedia Gravel floor surface superbia luxuria 7no. 1000x750 2m high confessionals with shaped stone slabs A A invidia gula Plan 16m x 16m (to be reconfigured to any size) 2m 0.25m Section AA April Section AA July Section AA October 1m 2m
