I Mustache You a Question, but I’ll Shave it for Later
Interview by: Corrie Cirelli
Photographs taken by: Sam Mason
Some people may know her because she’s been on the softball team but others
may not because she’s a quiet girl. She has lovely fashion sense, and is into some
pretty awesome things like super heroes. Read on to find out more about Brittney
Fournier.
Who is your favorite member of “The Avengers”? Why?
My favorite member of “The Avengers” is most definitely Captain America; who
doesn't love a man in a uniform?
How long have you been on the softball team? What do you do for the team?
I was only on the softball team for this season, I wish I had joined sooner. I am
the manager of the team, so I do the book to keep score and stats.
What college are you going to?
I'm going to Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts; either in the fall or the
spring, I'm hoping for the fall.
What do you hope to do in the future?
I hope to start my own graphic design business from my home, wherever that
may be.
Favorite teacher? Why?
Mr. Jordan is my favorite teacher mostly because he is the graphic design teacher
and that is what I want to do; he also treats his students like adults, so I have
freedom to do my own projects.
Who do you think will stay in your life after high school?
Morgan Harrington (Morgs) and Danni Ricard (Daniel) will always be in my life, they're my best friends. They're not going anywhere.
What super power would you want?
Oh jeeze, any superpower? I'd want to teleport so I wouldn't have to pay for flights or train tickets!
Advice to those who will be seniors next
year?
Seniors next year: have fun and be involved. You've made it to the home
stretch and no matter how much you can't
wait to get out of here, you're going to
miss even the people you don't like, the
teachers too. Ha-ha.
Who inspires you the most in your life?
Oh boy, inspirational people. Let’s see,
most likely my grandparents; they just
celebrated their 40th anniversary. I hope I
make it that far!
Any hidden talents?
I guess having some sort of creativity is
my hidden talent, everyone thought I was
going to be a doctor, that one threw them
for a loop.
What do you do in your spare time?
Lately in my spare time I have been heading to Boston to check out apartments for
college, takes up most of my time. It's so
stressful. Ha-ha.
Is there any class you wish our school
offered?
I wish our school would offer classes that
branched out from graphic design like
typography for example.

Getting Tech Savvy
Interview by: Corrie Cirelli
Photographs from: Facebook
Have you ever had computer problems and had no idea how to fix them? Well I know one senior who could definitely help you
out, and that’s Ryan Dumais! You may know Ryan by his girlfriend, Jaice
DeRosier, or you may have seen him walking in the hallway. As the school
year is coming to an end, I thought if anyone deserved to be in the newspaper, it was Ryan.
What college are you going to?
I plan on going to QVCC (Quinebaug Valley Community College), then
Eastern Connecticut State University.
Do you have a job? Do you like it?
I do, afterschool recreation at Plainfield Memorial School. I love my job,
spending time and teaching the kids is fun!
What do you hope to do in the future?
I hope to become a computer science major. I want to stay local, it’s a huge
priority.
What’s one thing you’ll miss most about our school?
The student-teacher relations. They treated you like equal adults and accepted humor.
What’s one thing you’ll miss least about our school?
The troublemakers getting away with their mistakes and the ancient Dell
computers.
Advice to next years seniors?
Do your best, regardless of “senioritis.” Your GPA doesn’t end until your
diploma is in your possession.
Where do you hope to wind up
living?
Northeast region. When I finish
Pictures of Ryan and Jaice from prom
school (college) I plan to move to
New Hampshire.
Where do you see yourself ten
years from now?
Starting my career and family. Getting my life started as a successful
adult.
What’s one thing you can take out
of your four years in high school?
The fact that friends come and go.
The friend I had as a freshmen drifted in and out of my life, some to
never be seen again.
Least favorite class you’ve ever
taken? Favorite class?
My least favorite class was probably
art (sorry!), and my favorite
would’ve been honors United States
history as a junior. I learned so
much in that class… then I forgot it
Ryan and his dog
all.
Any class you wish our school had to offer?
Computer programming or basic computer hardware. Microsoft Office classes
ARE NOT for me.

Danni Ricardo
Interview and Photographs by: Derek Kirslis
Danni Ricard has one of the most, if not the most, distinct personalities out of everybody I have encountered in my lifetime.
You will find none like this eccentric senior with her volatile and unorthodox attitude towards everything. She enjoys beards,
cats, and comic books. Prepare to immerse yourself in a world that has no limits. Proceed with caution, you are subjecting
yourself to conditions which may cause spontaneous combustion.
Where do you live, and how long have you lived there?
I live on 21 Green Hollow Road, and I used to live on 25 Green
Hollow Road. I have lived there for two or three years.
What is your favorite food/drink?
My favorite food is probably tacos, and my favorite drink is
leche.
If you could do any one thing and not die as a result of it,
what would you do?
Hmm…I would go free falling out of an airplane.
Who is your favorite comic book hero? Why?
That would be Wolverine. In the movie, he’s played by Hugh
Jackman. I like him in the comic book because he’s really sick
and has the best superpowers ever.
What is your favorite color?
Violet.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
To see through wooden doors. In a movie I watched, there was a
vigilante cat that could see through doors and it was really
awesome.
Specifically wooden doors?
Danni and Mr. Greene with rather puzzling visages, considering
Yes. Not metal, just wooden doors.
the statement they were faced with
What is/was your most memorable moment at PHS?
Discussing Marvel in Mr. Greene’s room because it was fun and
interesting.
What are your plans after high school?
I’m attending Three Rivers Community College in the early childhood education program, I’m going to do all of my general
education and my first year of school there, then I’m transferring to Eastern to become a preschool teacher.
If you could grow a beard, would you?
Yes. Like a lumberjack.
If you could have 50 pounds of anything, excluding money, what would it be?
Tacos!
What was your dream as a child? Has it changed?
Well the first thing that I wanted to be when I grew up was a
dinosaur, so I’d say it’s changed a little bit. Not by much
though. I want to be a preschool teacher.
If you could marry anybody, fictional or real, dead or
alive, who would it be?
(whisper) Mr. Greene.
Danni looking fancy in her “Gears of War” t-shirt.

What is your biggest fear?

Who is your favorite teacher?

Some of you may know her from sports, some of you may have seen her bright cheery face in the halls or even had the privilege of having her in class. She is a very active girl, in and out of school, and can cheer up your day with her positivity. This
girl is Sarah Leach. I get to see Sarah everyday in public speaking and she always comes in with a smile on her face and you
can hear her laughter fill up the room. So, I thought everyone deserved the
privilege to find out more about Sarah.
What school activities have you been involved in?
Sports: volleyball, indoor and outdoor track.
How long have you been horseback riding?
I’ve been riding for nine years.
Where do you hope to live?
I want to live in New Hampshire.

If you were stranded on an island and could have only two things and one
person, who and what would they be?
Person would be my friend Kelsey. Three things: my phone and iPod.

Delbert Delight
Interview and Photographs by: Nicole Yon
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a senior and out of Plainfield? Well this guy has been wishing for that day
since he was a freshman. His name is Delbert Bledsoe or commonly known as DJ; he’s a senior and can’t wait to continue on
with his future plans after high school. You may know him as a football player on the field or throwing javelin for track. He is
a really great friend and always seeks to make you smile, so with that being said, I felt others should know him as well. Here is
a little bit about DJ.
Hey best friend!
Hi, how are you?
What was your initial reaction first day freshman year of what high
school would be like?
Going to be a blast! Got yelled at by Mr. Arcarese (former principal) for
standing in a corner of the auditorium because my senior football captain
told me to.
What was your favorite class\teacher? Why?
Mr. McDermott’s English I class, we butted
heads, in a good way; he pushed me because he
knew what I was capable of.
Favorite teacher is by far Mr.Drapcho.
How does it feel knowing you only have a few
more weeks as high school student?
Feels absolutely great, can’t wait to be out of this
dumb school, and away from stupid drama.
Do you think that you have made your high
school career the best you could have?
Yeah, I mean...could have tried harder in
academics but I got A’s and B’s without trying.
Sports were definitely my best moments.
Underneath the lights at a Friday night game or
throwing jav.
What is your favorite memory from high
school?
All the lifelong friendships that will hopefully
continue on.
What are a few things that you want to accomplish before starting
college?
License, car, fun, and I don’t know? Make money.
Are you scared for next year?
Not at all.
Do you think you will stay in touch with your friends after you
graduate?
If it’s up to me, yes!
What are your plans after you gradate?
Summer job, college for a year or two, and then transfer to Central and
continue my engineering career.
Are you going to continue sports in college?
Yes, while I am going to college I will coach at PHS for track. And when I
transfer to Central I’m going to compete in track there and try my best to
play football for their D1AA team.
“Cant wait
to be out of
this dumb
school, and
away from
stupid drama.”

Have you received any major achievements in either track or football?
Well, this year I took fourth in the state class meet for jav and third in discus
where I advanced to state open to take thirteenth in both. I was also chosen as
all ECCs center for football.
How long have you been playing football?
Sense fourth grade for teams, but really since I was able to hold a football and
run for it.
Are you going to miss playing?
ABSOLUTELTY! It’s killing me knowing there is no next year.
What are your plans for the summer?
Beach, friends, fun and work.
Are you going to be working a lot?
Yes, 40 hours a week.
If you could time travel back a couple years, what age would you want to
be again and why?
I don’t know if I would want to, I live for today with no regrets.
Do you think life was simpler when you were younger?
Definitely.
Does it scare you to grow up?
No, can’t wait!
Well, thanks love and best wishes to you next year!

Interview and Photographs by: Rich Orsini
Ever wonder who that quiet kid walking down the hallway is? If you ever hear him talk, he has a very deep voice and that
may be intimidating for some people. Nate Duval is a quiet, but nice, laid-back kid that I got the chance to interview before he
graduates this year. This is what we talked about.
What have these four years of high school been like for you?
Too long. I always thought my freshmen year that it was going to go by so quickly but now that I’m a senior and I look back it was just so long. Six hundred plus
days of just work. And now that I have a month left I just want to get out of here.
Have you had a severe case of Senioritis?
I got Senioritis at the end of semester one. I woke up to go to school, the
beginning of the second semester, and said to myself I’m done, I don’t
want to do anything.
What were some of the most memorable moments of any year during high
school?
Probably when I joined the football team my senior year. I had a lot of fun and got
to meet new people. Journalism, I took a full year of that, and enjoyed expressing
my opinions so the whole school could see
What were some of your favorite classes that you took?
Journalism (laughs), AP history this year with Mr. Wilcox.
Least favorite?
Any type of math classes.
Do you have some tips for students graduating next year?
Don’t be too cocky. I know that you’re a senior but you don’t have the authority here so just don’t try to fool around. Try to
relax the best you can I guess.

When you were entering your freshmen year, did you find high school to be exactly how you expected it to be?
Not really. I thought there was going to be a lot of bullying and kids getting picked
on a lot. Probably three weeks into my freshmen year I noticed one kid getting picked
on but it was just name calling.
Do you have any advice for the incoming freshman?
Expect to be picked on but at the same time don’t. In Plainfield there isn’t a lot of
bullying. The class work is going to be kind of hard but it’s not really that bad.
A lot of people think that senior year is the easiest of them all, with your experience, do you agree?
Hell no! Basically I went into senior year thinking I was going to chill, and relax have
a steady job and find a college. I didn’t search for colleges in my junior year which I
regret. At the beginning of senior year I started looking and I didn’t pick a college
until March of this year.
Do you think your voice is deeper than Mr. Marr’s?
Probably. I talked to him this year for the first time and he was amazed by my voice.
He said “when did you get that voice?” and I told him that I was born with it.
Do you consider Moosup a “ghetto”?
No, because Plainfield itself is known for mills and factories and now that they’re shut down people think they’re gangster
because Plainfield looks like a brighter version of Detroit
Have you ever traveled out of the country?
Alaska, that’s about it.
Who is your daddy, and what does he do?
My dad is the athletic trainer for the football team, he’s a firefighter for Atwood Hose, he’s a fire investigator, a 911 dispatcher, he’s a fire instructor at the fire academy, and does search and rescue for the state.
Who is your favorite actor/actress?
Mila Kunis for actress and Robert Downey Jr. for an actor.
Have you ever been to an NFL game before?
I saw the Giants play twice. First in 2007, the preseason game
against the Patriots, and 2010 against the Jaguars during the regular
season.
Who is your favorite National Football League team?
New York Giants!
Does Wes Welker have butter fingers?
Yes, in fact when the Giants won the Super Bowl this year I had a
Butterfinger in the fridge and held it high and said “this is for you,
Wes Welker.”
Do you like cats?
I have three at home, so yes.
PC or Mac?
Acer. No, Mac.

Brothers From Other Mothers
Interviews and Photographs by: Haley Ames
You may know these guys from football, wrestling, track, or just seeing them around the school. But not everyone knows whom
Jared Forrestal and Nick Devanny really are. These two gentlemen are graduating this year and I figured they deserved to be
known throughout the school. You may know one better than the other, so here’s the opportunity to get to know each of them.
How long have the two of you been friends for?
Nick: Uh, since like eighth grade. I actually hated him at first.
Jared: Since eighth grade, so five years.
What made you guys become friends?
Nick: We just started talking in school.
Jared: Nothing made us friends. I just went up to him and said let’s hangout and he said
okay.
What is your worst/best memory in high school?
Nick: My best memory is when me and Dan Desjardins were in art class freshman year and
made fake paper mashie poop and painted it. Then put it on Mr. Farrish’s floor.
Jared: My worst memory in high school would be when I went to Ellis. My best memory
would be gym basketball with The Reel and Ryder.
Who inspires you, and why?
Nick: Brian Peppers.
Jared: Lil B The Based God. He inspires me because he cooks so good, he’s legendary
based and rare.
What do you think makes you guys the closest?
Nick: I don’t know, everyone thinks we look alike.
Jared: Nothing really, just an enjoyable presence.
What would you like to do when you graduate high school?
Nick: I plan to travel the world… with Haley.
Jared: I would like to go on a road trip possibly, or hangout with some people. Maybe get a tattoo. YOLO!
What are some of your favorite activities to do with your friends?
Nick: Skateboarding and in Jared's town.
Jared: Probably slaying people with our swords.
Do you think you know one another well enough to finish each others sentences?
Nick: Yes!
Jared: Probably not.
How often are you guys together?
Nick: Probably everyday.
Jared: For the most part, everyday.
If you were stranded on an island, and the only way to survive was to
kill each other, would you?
Nick: I don’t think I would kill him, I might just punch him in the throat.
Jared: Yes.
Who do you think is the better looking out of the two of you?
Nick: Me! Jared’s head looks like a planet.
Jared: Probably Nick, he has that beach bod.
Who do you think smells the best?
Nick: I smell like a fresh spring meadow, so me.
Jared: Nick smells like Teddy his dog, not like a spring meadow.
Which one of you has the best grades?
Nick: We’re about even. He might have me beat by a little bit, but our
GPA is the same.
Jared: I’m always one point better than Nick.

Which one of you do you think will be the most successful in life?
Nick: Me, clearly. He’s not going anywhere. He’s probably going to be a bum.
Jared: Obviously me, because I am going to be famous and not a bum.
Do you think the two of you will always be friends?
Nick: No, I’ll eventually be moving.
Jared: Maybe, probably not.
If you were to choose any way to die, what would it be?
Nick: Maybe I’d like to be eaten by something!
Jared: Thrown out of a helicopter into a volcano.
Who do you think has the best personality out of the two of you?
Nick: Me, because Jared has a weird personality.
Jared: I have a better personality because I have an accent.
Lastly, who do you think is the most outgoing and why?
Nick: Jared, just because he’ll do anything someone asks him too.
Jared: Me, because I’m just outgoing in general. Nick’s very shy.
Senior Year in a Nutshell
Interviews and Photographs by: Earl Davis
I decided to take it upon myself to interview a few seniors and ask them how their senior year has been so far. Have their thoughts
about what the year would be like changed from the beginning of the year up to now. I also asked them to provide advice they can
share for the incoming seniors for next year.
How’s senior year going for you up to this point? Explain in detail.
Sadie Pettigrew: I’m bored with it pretty much. I’d like to leave now. It’s pretty bad, but it’s not
the worse.
Tara Hill: It’s going pretty good. I mean my expectations for senior year were a lot higher.
Mackenzie Goebel: It’s been going pretty good. I kind of want it to end now.
Have your thoughts changed about senior year from early in the year?
Sadie Pettigrew: I always knew I wanted to graduate. I guess not really. I wasn’t quite as bored.
Tara Hill: I thought senior year was going to be a lot more fun and I thought I would have more
time to get everything planned out.
Mackenzie Goebel: Um, a little bit. It’s changed from when I
was a freshman to now being a senior.
Mackenzie Goebel
What do you think or was the most stressful part of senior year?
Sadie Pettigrew: I’d definitely have to say gym class because I needed it
to pass.
Tara Hill: Definitely college planning. I should have done the majority of
it over the summer.
Mackenzie Goebel: I think I’ve been stressed all of senior year because
I’m always a busy person and always have something going on.
Tara Hill
Is there anything you would have done differently this year?
Sadie Pettigrew: I probably would have studied more for my AP History exam.
Tara Hill: I probably would have tried harder in track. Done all my homework and taken the harder classes.
Mackenzie Goebel: I definitely would have relaxed a little more and not procrastinated as much.
Sadie Pettigrew
Do you have a piece of advice for the senior class of next year?
Sadie Pettigrew: Graduate. I think the junior class needs to grow up a little bit because they’re immature.
Tara Hill: Have fun and do all of your college planning early.
Mackenzie Goebel: Keep on working even though you’re a senior and you are going to go to college. Keep
going and don’t give in.

Jaice DeRosier is a senior at this high school. Most known for her laugh and her kindness, Jaice can be found working hard
and enjoying her senior year. I have decided to interview her so we can learn more about this loveable soul.
Hello Jaice. How excited are you to be a senior?
I am excited to know that I am graduating and I get to have one last year to spend
time with friends.
Is it everything you wanted and/or expected it to be?
It is everything and more. I remember my freshmen year I wanted to go home the
first five minutes. Now I never want to leave.
What is your favorite memory from this school?
PIMA, because I got closer with friends and it was a chance for me to open up.
What do you think Plainfield will remember
about you?
My laugh, hopefully, and how nice I am.
What do you plan to do after high school?
I plan to go the Three Rivers for nursing and become an emergency room nurse within a few
years.
What is your dream job?
To be an emergency room nurse.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I see myself having a successful life, being a
nurse, saving lives is what I want many years
down the road, and I hope to start a family.
What is one thing that helped you get through
high school?
Not trusting very many people. Sticking to a couple friends and being nice to everyone. You never know if you could become their friend.
What is a piece of advice you would pass down
to the underclassmen?
Just be yourself. You don’t need a million
friends. Laugh! Have fun!
How does it feel to finally be graduating high
school?
It’s nerve wracking, I’m excited, but scared for
the future, I hope to succeed in life.
Is it as exciting as you thought it would be?
I honestly didn’t think it would come this fast,
but it’s very exciting. High school is everything
and more. I have enjoyed every minute.
What was the highlight of your senior year?
Probably getting class couple with Ryan Dumais.
That was a shocker.
What will you miss most about high school?
I will miss a selected few people and I will miss graphic design. Oh, and of course
Mr. Zenowitz and walking through the halls seeing your friends.
Thanks Jaice.

I’m very excited. I get to spend some of the last times with my friends, and next year

Is it everything you wanted and/or expected it to be?
Yeah, actually I was pretty surprised I
didn’t have many credit requirements
so it was easier.

Hiding from Mr. Zielinski in the Shepard Hill playground. (During soccer

What do you think Plainfield will

Where do you see yourself in ten
years?
Hopefully with a nice home and husband and in a good financial standpoint
and as healthy as I could be.
What is one thing that helped you get through high school?
My friends, I wouldn’t have become very confident or sort of outgoing.
What is a piece of advice you would pass down to the underclassmen?
Be yourself, don’t try to fit in with the “right” crowd.
How does it feel to finally be graduating high school?
I feel accomplished. That one of the toughest yet exciting parts of my life is over.
Is it as exciting as you thought it would be?
It’s even more!

SENIOR LAST WORDS
One Last Thing
Compiled and Photographs by: Samantha Mason
Senior year is the most important. It’s the end of your first milestone in life. I have decided to ask these seniors what their one
last hoorah would be. Enjoy.
What is one piece of advice you have for underclassmen?
Erika Fallon: Don't procrastinate; it is easier to
get a project done a few days before than the
night before.
Malorie Arsenault: Stay true to yourself, and
stand up for what you believe in.
Brittney Fournier: Be yourself and don't try to
conform with the popular kids; once you’re comfortable with yourself everything will work out.
Hailey Griffin: If you’re not first you’re last.
Morgan Harrington: No matter what season it is
always bring a sweater or a blanket.
Sadie Pettigrew: Shower more often.
Mackenzie Goebel: You have to work hard for what you want, and realize that high school is not a
complete joke. Stay true to yourself.
Nick Cote: Don’t let the administration tell you that you party too hard.
Gage Griffin: Don't be afraid to throw that 3-2 curve ball.
Matt LaPrade: Make high school as fun as it can be.
Ian Broad: Graduate early!
Manimal/Young Change: Do you, don’t follow be a
leader. Following gets you into trouble leading
doesn't. Don’t let people get you down.
Any last words?
Erika Fallon: Enjoy high school its not worth stressing over.
Malorie Arsenault: Shout out to my cheerleaders. ECC Champions!!!!!!!!!!!
Brittney Fournier: Adhere by football rules.
Hailey Griffin: LEDLIYL! Live like you were dying.
Morgan Harrington: Clear
eyes full hearts can’t lose.
Mackenzie Goebel: It’s been
a long four years but I’m
glad it’s finally over.
Sadie Pettigrew: Smell ya
later.
Gage Griffin: Do you.
Nick Cote: Swag.
Matt LaPrade: I’m eighteen
and live a crazy life
Manimal/Young Change: Be
yourself, don't let anyone
change you, I make it rain
change.
Ian Broad: Thank god it’s
over.

People constantly walk in and out of our lives almost
instantly. But, sometimes someone special makes a lasting
impression on our hearts and souls, and we are changed forever. For several couples in the senior class, these words speak
the truth. They have overcome many challenges, whether it be
other students bashing their relationship, overbearing fathers
trying to take control, or rumors spread to try to force them

of them to ask about how they have remained so strong in
an environment where it seems like the new fad is dating somebody
for two weeks and then breaking up. In addition, I would like to ask
their plans for the future and how they plan to stay together.
Jaice DeRosier: We have managed to stay together because he is my
best friend. We are open with eachother. If we are mad about something we don’t hide it. As for college, I am hoping to go through the
CNA course at QVCC so we will see eachother. Also, we both drive
so we don’t have to ask our parents to hang out.
Alexa Rouillard: Before John and I started dating we were best
friends for a couple of months and got to know each other really well.
I think that has helped out our relationship a lot. We are also very

won’t be an issue yet.
Paul Washington: Lynsey and I have lasted so long because we did
not rush into dating. We spent awhile as close friends, talking and
texting, getting to know each other until we felt that dating would
work out and last. Next year we are not going to the same college so
we are going to have to communicate more. I will visit her at UConn
while I attend Three Rivers and spend weekends together. If you
really love someone it will work out.
Joshua Currier: Jenna and I have been together for a little over a
year. We have lasted this long because we are best friends who can
communicate better than anybody else that I know. In the fall we
will face the biggest challenge in our relationship. I am going to Vermont for college while she is staying in Connecticut. I don’t sweat
about it because if we are meant to be it will work out.

The Plainfield High School softball team is
like one big happy family. When the last home
game of the season comes around the juniors
set up a nice ceremony to say “good bye” to
members of their family who are going on
their own way. We recognized all of the senior
softball players: Hannah Gregoire, Morgan
Harrington, Kathryn LaRose, Sarah Oshima
and Sophia Cross. We also recognized the two
senior managers: Danni Ricard and Brittney

The Time of Your Life
Commentary by: Nate “The Pirate” Duval
For teenagers, high school is a time for change and challenges. It’s a time for new trends, experiments, new people and new
environments. Everyone changes throughout his or her four years in school, for better or worse. The times here can be good
while others could be filled with regret. Within my four years at Plainfield High School, I’ve done everything, and seen everything an average high schooler goes through: cruel and hurtful break-ups, “experimenting,” played sports, failed papers and
laid back with friends, to name a few. Though, try to avoid regret and enjoy the years left of your stress-free life. Here are
some tips on how to survive high school.
DON’T EVER date your best friends: Friends are friends for reasons. They help you through everything, and are your
shoulder to cry on. Dating your best friends will turn for the worst once the fights start. Arguing about stupid things with
meaningless conclusions will tear apart your relationship, and once you finally break up, the friendship is terminated. You lost
your best friend, and part of you is missing.
DON’T date the same person more than once: You broke up with them for a reason, why do you think they are different
now?
Try a sport: Please, don’t be lazy; it’ll put you in a bad spot for the future. Doing sports in high school will make you athletic,
find new friends, and even look good on a college resume. You don’t have to be good, I played football my senior year and I
couldn’t tackle; I was faster than the Roadrunner from “Looney Tunes”, but couldn’t hit. Enjoy it: you have football, cross
country, indoor and outdoor track, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, wrestling and golf to choose from.
Take foreign language classes early: Unless you love Spanish or French, hear me out. I took Spanish I through III my freshman through junior year, and I hated it. PHS doesn’t require students to take a foreign language, but it is highly recommended
for college. If you wait for college to take a foreign language, expect the criteria to be difficult. Get the classes over with, double up for a year to get it over with quicker, so by senior year you won’t have to worry about your “Los” and “Las.” Perfecto
Amigo.
Pull up your pants: Hey Lil’ Wayne of Plainfield, you’re not in the hood. We are a town who used to produce wires and mop
handles. We are a town that grows corn for cows and grass for profit. The last
thing I want to see in the morning is a man’s Calvin Klein checkered undershorts. If you want to expose your rear to me, go ahead be my guest I’ll be the
first to pull your underwear so high your voice will deafen dogs. And there’s no
point in showing your underwear WHILE wearing a belt. Isn’t a belt there for a
reason?
Be yourself: It took me until my senior year to realize my true identity. DON’T
EVER LET PEOPLE CHANGE YOUR LIFE. It’s YOUR life, YOU control
your own ways. It’s ok to be shy and unsociable. There’s plenty of people just
like you.
Be positive: Nobody likes a negative kid. Students here constantly say how
much they hate this place, and how bad some teachers are. Go into the annex
building; see if you think that building is better than this $50 million creation
and look back the next year and see how much you learned from Mr. Adam’s
www.remindernews.com
class. A negative student at PHS will walk through the school spreading the
Plainfield Graduation 2010
aroma of hatred towards something. Then eventually the school will have despicability towards a certain topic. Instead…on a brighter side, be positive. It’s
not the end of the world that you failed a test or lost a friend. Just say that you will get through it. There is something called a
“four-day window” that I always use. The first four days after an incident will be hard to handle, but after day five, it is past
your mind. Move along and enjoy the good things in life. Wake up and say to yourself; today is going to be a good day.
Don’t share a locker: Bad things will happen. Couples think it is a cute idea to share one locker so they don’t have to travel
far to see their “high school sweetheart.” The lockers are meant for one person, four books and a bag, maybe a coat if you’re
lucky…not eight books, two coats and a purse. Once that couple breaks up, who will move out? It turns out to be the last man
standing just like “Big Brother”. It’s the awkward moment the day after the break-up where it’s move out time.
Don’t make babies in the hallway: This school is not “The Notebook”, “Dear John”, “Titanic”, or “50 Shades of Gray.” Nobody wants to see you pressed against the locker, in attempt to steal second. There is a time and place for “activities” like this;
it’s called “out of school.” It gets out of hand when you walk to every class together, hands swinging, and making out when
the warning bell goes off, making it seem that this is the last time you’ll see a loved one when he/she goes off to a war. You’ll
see them in 90 minutes. I also don’t understand why they insist on holding hands while walking up stairs. You’re in the way,
your hands are not attached with glue, its not the end of the world if you let go to go up two flights of stairs. You will survive,
trust me.

Get a job: McDonalds is not a bad place to work at. Stop complaining about not being able to get a job to your standards.
McDonald’s and Big-Y can fill everyone’s void with a paycheck. There are plenty of places around here where you can find a
job, chain restaurants, family-run restaurants, repair shops, landscaping, sporting good stores and the list goes on. Just call the
company after filling out the application to let the company know that you are still interested.
Look at colleges early: Upcoming juniors, go to www.collegeboard.org and look up colleges. Find the major that fits you
best, and find an affordable college that has the specific major. It might take a while to find your career, but find something
that you’re good at. If you’re good at cooking, try culinary. If you are a therapist towards friends, try becoming a psychologist. DON’T start your college search in the beginning of senior year, you have other topics to deal with.
Take driving classes: During junior year, the average teen is 16 or 17, the age where you can obtain your Learners Permit for
a car. Mr. Smith schedules the classes and usually last two months. The classes range from 90 minutes to two hours. Schedule
classes with the driving instructor, which last two hours as well. Taking these classes shorten your time to be able to receive
your license and eventually have you driving on the road.
Enjoy the out-of-school activities: Don’t go home and play video games until the sun rises again. Go to sporting events, enjoy being around friends and root on PHS against rivals such as Griswold, Putnam, Killingly and Waterford. Go to concerts
and hear your fellow students sing their hearts out or see plays where their dreams are performing on Broadway. If your parents have a dirty car, go to the car wash affiliated with the school. Enjoy the great things the school provides to students. The
administration and different organizations at the school make these events to make students enjoy the little things about high
school.
In my four years here at PHS, this place taught me things other than education. What I have seen walking the halls,
talking to my friends or even had the honor to withhold, these life lessons should make your high school career even more
“enjoyable” than it is now. High school is a time for change and trial and error. You will change your ways and do some
things you will regret, everyone will go through it. Enjoy what you have here, always be happy, make new friends, and have a
great time here, because the real world is a kick in the head.
To that I say goodbye to my school, goodbye to the memories I’ve experienced here from 2008-2012. Ups and downs
lefts and rights, I made friends I never could imagine and did activities I thought were impossible in my book. Though mainly,
my time here was enjoyable. I spent a reasonable amount of time here, and I learned my fair amount of information. I’ll leave
you, PHS with this: I will see you again, this side or the other, and of course…Dream Big.

Graduation Rap
Rap and Advice by: Young ‘Manimal’ Change
Young ‘Manimal’ Change is revolutionary with lyrics that rival that of Lil’ Wayne. His name shall be heard in the stale, stagnant air of the hallways of Plainfield High School as long as the building stands. Since the drop of his first hit, “Mr. Unstoppable”, he’s accumulated over 10,000 views on YouTube and a massive following of fans and critics, but primarily one of the
two. To finish off his career at Plainfield, he’s releasing one last track; this announces his graduation.
This is Young Change, AKA Manimal, because whatever I do is animal. Watch the magic happen.
[GO!]
Yo, I’m about to graduate so you can say it’s almost graduation. I’m the kinda guy that don’t care about his reputation no lie
I became YC and everybody wanted to be my friend. But yet they weren’t there from the beginning
I started rappin’, people said I was a beast. Then they started walking away, hating and laughing
I walked into the school, people thought they were cool tossing the change in my lane
But yet they’re lame because I made bank, seven dollars a day– Hooray!
They all fools, they just drool. I make everybody look like a fool
I make it rain change one last time before I make it into my prime.
Do you have any advice for the freshman next year?
Freshman! Who cares about your reputation, you know. Do you. Be you. Who cares what anyone else thinks. So what if
you’re not popular, it’s not all about that. Go into school and do your work. I came here and could’ve graduated as a junior,
but I skipped school and class. If you want to do something and somebody else doesn’t like it, tell them to shut the ‘front
door.’ DO YOU. Don’t let anyone tell you different. Don’t be a follower, be a leader like I was.

The Great Expectations
Commentary by: Nate “The Pirate” Duval
During high school, there are always rumors. Expect the unexpected. Nothing turns out the way people expect it to be. The
times will change and the tables will turn. People who strut into a situation and slack off will get the worst of it. Upcoming
freshman are more afraid than a Chihuahua greeting a Rottweiler, while seniors think their last year will be a free ride. Both
of these are false. Everyone has expectations about the upcoming year, and all of them mainly take it the wrong way. All of the
years are different and each year gets difficult. Just remember to expect the unexpected.
In a Freshman’s Mind: The “fresh meat” enter the school, afraid of everything and are beyond shy. Freshmen get shoved into
lockers and bullied constantly. The work is simple and the teachers baby you. They enter the school and leave the school like
ghosts. Freshmen keep to themselves and mind their own business. They have average height for 14 year olds. Finally, freshmen stay in freshmen classes throughout the whole year, also known as
“Freshmen Academy.”
In Reality: Every year, the freshman seem to get shorter. I think this year
the average height was 4’9”. Now a days, here at Plainfield High School,
bullying rarely occurs: you must really be out of the way to get picked on
here. No stuffing into lockers, or heads in the toilets. The school work
freshmen receive is harder than junior work. The teacher won’t baby you
and will give you the full high school experience. The freshmen are NOT
quiet and want to annoy any human being possible. They are loud and
obnoxious, and will talk about everything in their immature ways. Finally,
“Freshmen Academy” only works during the first semester, when second
semester hits, you find them everywhere, rather in sophomore or even
some junior classes.
In a Sophomore’s Mind: That awkward year: you aren’t a freshman, nor
are you a junior; you seem stuck in the middle. You know what that
means, act like a fool. The work will be much easier then freshmen year
and the homework is simple.
In Reality: That is the truth.
In a Junior’s Mind: Juniors have been around the school for almost three
years, they know their ways around. Juniors are used to the work and take
their time on it. The only thing juniors have to worry about is the SAT or
ACT test and send them to colleges. Junior prom comes up and people ask
their true love to a night under the neon lights and blaring music.
In Reality: Juniors still have not realized their way around here. I’ve been
here for four years and I still don’t remember room numbers. The work
www.thrigibalunoriginal.com
juniors get will hit them harder than a truck. More essays, papers and projects due in a shorter time. Homework piles up and the books for English only get more confusing. Go ahead, read “The Scarlet Letter” and try to enjoy it. Study your butt off for the SAT, take classes, whatever it has to take. Buy the College Board
brand SAT booklet. Inside, it contains 10 practice tests in which it’ll help you greatly on the real test. Junior prom, tell you the
truth, is more like a homecoming dance, but just with tux’s and dresses. It is always at the town hall with a theme that has to
do with New York City or Las Vegas at midnight.
In a Senior’s Mind: You made it, you are top of the food chain. You’ve spend the past four years doing countless amounts of
work and book reading. The only thing you can truly do is relax and slack off because, well, you only have eight months left
of PHS. Senior Prom will be a night to remember, just like the “American Pie.” Yes, Senior Prom is just like “American Pie,”
except Stifler’s mom. You are treated with royalty because, well, you’re a senior; you get to do whatever you want. The end of
the year prank is to die for. Rather a rancid smell of a flood is main attraction. Seniors will ruin the school.
In Reality: Senior year is full of stress, sorry to spill the beans. College decisions and tours, job hours, AP classes, the AP
test…full of stress beyond belief. Slackers fail classes, no matter what, seniors don’t get any comfort. Once Senior Prom
comes, everyone is excited; they can bring their friends and have a final moment with the people they grew up with, although,
the after party will defiantly be NOT like “American Pie.” Yes you are on top of the food chain, and seniors get away with
some things, but are not treated like royalty.
People can go into situations the wrong way. These expectations are what I experienced throughout my four years
here at PHS. To any upcoming students or students upgrading a grade. Be aware of what may be ahead of you, for these expectations may help you.

Remember when you were little and how badly you wanted to grow up? When getting your drivers license seemed like eternity

now that we have all those things...they aren’t really anything to rave about. We miss the music that wasn’t corrupted, the

Change is a Good Thing
Article and Photographs by: Haley Ames
There are a lot of things that the students and staff disdain here at Plainfield High School. Almost everyone I know, complains
about how much they hate school. I guarantee if the school did more activities that involved each student and each teacher,
more people would want to come to school. For some ideal changes, I decided to interview a few students about some things
they would change for the year of 2012-2013.
What are some activities you would like to see happen at PHS?
Liz Larned: We should have a paintball club!
Tanya Webster: More (and better) pep rallies, and maybe some kind of field
day!
Keenan MeBane: Definitely field day!
Abby DiMartino: I’m with Liz! Paintball club!
Jackie Bartholomay: More fun things where all of the school gets together.
Ryan Pambuku: I think we should have more pep rallies!
Garet Griffin: Pep rallies, a lot more. As in a lot more. We need more.
Jaclyn Gunn: Field day! With lots of games and food, like watermelon.
Alyssa Ford: More competitions and activities
Tanya Webster, Xavier Laporte, Liz Larned, and that involve the whole school and tie into the academics to help motivate more students to do their
George Lopez
work.
How do you think PHS could make it more likely for the students and staff to want to attend school on a daily basis?
Liz Larned: If there was a raffle such as free cookies, ice cream, pizza, etc, to all of the people
who attend a full day of school.
George Lopez: Give them dinner.
Jaclyn Gunn: Moderate temperatures in the school; it’s way too cold in some of the classes.
Xavier Laporte: Start school at 9:00 a.m. Life would be easier.
Alyssa Ford: Start school later!
What are some things you would like to change?
Miranda Nickerson: People!
Tanya Webster: We definitely need a cheer gym and a swimming pool would be nice too.
Jaclyn Gunn: The bathroom doors in the girls room are in rough shape. Some of the doors don’t
even lock.
Liz Larned and George
Alyssa Ford: The bathroom doors, and some of the curriculum.
Lopez
Richard Orsini: The bathrooms need more toilet paper, and the stalls need doors. Also, we need
to be allowed to wear smaller backpacks; girls shouldn't be allowed to carry around a backpack or purse that can fit me in
them.
Do you think our school is full of spirit? What do you think we should do to make more people involved?
Liz Larned: I think we have a lot of panther pride, but it isn’t shown to its full potential. We should have a spirit Friday once a
month, where the students invade a teacher’s room with Plainfield spirit.
Keenan MeBane: Sports teams and upper classmen have spirit during homecoming, but altogether the students aren’t full of
spirit. To get more people involved, there should be a few more pep rallies
and other things throughout the year.
Tanya Webster: So, so. A lot of the kids who are involved in sports are
spirited, but for the most part no one really is spirited. Like Liz said, we
need more spirit days that will promote school and class pride!
Jackie Bartholomay: Only the kids that play sports have spirit. To make it
better, there should be more pep-rallies and other activities.
Jaclyn Gunn: It honestly depends on what class. Seniors have the most
spirit, juniors too. However, the sophomore and freshmen don’t really have
spirit at all. Make the freshman more involved in the pep-rallies, make
them feel like they are more wanted in the school.
Alyssa Ford: No, there isn’t a whole lot of school spirit. There needs to be
more activities and pep rallies that include all of the classes.

Hail to the Chief
Article and Photographs by: Ryan Perry
Every year, each student hopes to make the best of their final few months at Plainfield High
School. With great guidance, this hope is easily achievable. It’s easy to see that class office for
the 2012-13 school year will help each student surpass all that they wanted in their last year at
PHS.
Hello, I’m Jordan Beauregard; I’m going to be the senior class president for the
2012-13 school year. When I delivered my speech, I had said that I want our time here to be
worth something, if we hadn’t done very much the first three years I at least want our senior
year to mean something. If we’re going to come here every day, it needs to be worth our
time. I’ve listened to what has been going on with the senior class and our senior class trip
and some of the had been rejected or there wasn’t a lot going on. I want that to change for
the coming year. I want to be able to look back and say, “Alright, I accomplished a really
good year and everyone loved it.” That’s what I want to make happen.
Some of the stuff that I’m planning: I want to have a really good place for senior
prom, I’ve already started looking for places in Connecticut and maybe Rhode Island, because Plainfield is right next to Rhode Island. Some of the other things that I’ve been working on, I’ve been trying to listening to my classmates, too. They’ve been giving me suggestions, they’ve been saying, “You’re
in charge of our class, can we do this?” and I’ve been saying, “Yeah, we can try that.” Of course, as long as it’s reasonable.
They’ve been giving me so many suggestions and I think, with their help, our senior year is going to be very memorable and I
honestly can’t wait for more than just one reason.
Another thing I want to try and get for my class is the Mr. Plainfield Pageant. I’ve heard from people around the community that they were trying to bring it back but if they can find sponsors, then I hope that we can actually put it on and make
it so it actually works. Another thing is that they don’t do senior prom king and queen which I feel they should. If any year, it
should be senior year. I know they have homecoming king and queen, but I think prom should have the special trademark as
well. Why not change up things a little? We’ve senior years in the past do the same exact thing and I think we should have
something new so we can be sure that it’s never forgotten.
High school, in my opinion, is definitely a time to figure out what you want, what you regret doing, and what kind of
person you can be. Senior year is one of the biggest steps in going along that path. It’s your last year and now you need to
think about everything. What was good about senior year that I can take with me forward? What didn’t go so well that I want
to change for the better? If it’s going to start anywhere, it’s going to start with our senior year. High school is a key: it’s a key
to the future and I hope as senior class president, I can help students feel like they have achieved something here, made it
memorable, and that their time at Plainfield High School and their senior year was worth something.
I am Susan Zheng and I’m going to be the

this year awesome.
My name is Lindsay Reindl and I’m going
to be the treasurer for the next year. I
hope to get a lot done for our class because next year is going to be our senior
year, which our most important year for
us. I hope to get everything we need to do
done and do it well.

ticket for the day. You can go to the water park, or go on the rides. Season passes
are available, they’re $50.00 for the entire year. You can go any day and not have
to pay. I know some of you are probably thinking, “I’m not going there, the lines
are ridiculous,” but there is a Flash Pass which is also available. It’s typically
around $20.00 a person. You can get a discount on the Flash Pass with your season pass, and if you use a Discovery card. Six Flags also has concerts and park
activities for all ages such as: Flo Rida and Adam Lambert concerts, Student Appreciation Days, Six Flags Camporee, Beach Parties, 4th of July Season Pass Picnic, Fright Fest, Walk for a Cure Diabetes, Sponge Bob Meet and Greet, Fireworks, etc. There are tons of things to do at Six Flags; for more information go
to: www.sixflags.com, then click the park you would like to attend.

Maybe you like animals? A zoo is a great idea, especially if you are finding things for the family. Anyone can go to the zoo! I know the Bronx Zoo in
New York is a great place to go. It might cost you some money to drive there, and for
admission, but it’s well worth it. The Roger Williams Zoo may be better for you considering it’s only in Providence, Rhode Island. There are different activities that the park
does, including: Santa’s coming to the zoo, which costs $13.95 (ages 3-12), adults are
$19.95 and children are $14.95. Most people know how to get there easily. There are
zoos all over the United States, so if you’re on vacation, there may be one closer to you.
You may not be a big fan of golf, but mini golf or putt putt golf could be fun!
Gather a bunch of friends and family then head on out to a golf course. Golf is probably
cheaper than going to Six Flags or the zoo. Some places near Plainfield that have mini
golf courses are: Farmington, and Canton, Connecticut.
A lot of teenagers are into having fires almost every weekend, which is a good
way to spend time with your family and friends. Maybe you could throw a BBQ, along
www.visitingdc.com/images/
with a bonfire, roast marshmallows, listen to music and do what teenagers do. Then have
all of your friends camp out in the woods or backyard.
Along with camping at bonfires, you could go to an actual campground. There are plenty of campgrounds near Plainfield, Connecticut. Some local parks are: Hopeville Pond State Park, Pachaug State Forest, Champman Area, and Green Falls
campground in Voluntown. These are the campgrounds I’ve been too, but there are plenty more available.
I know, this is fishing season! You can fish almost anywhere there are fish. A few places that are pretty popular for
fishing is Green Falls, Rhode Island, and Carbuncle in Sterling. You would most likely have to fish with someone who has his
or her fishing license, especially in a public place. If you like boating and fishing, then fish while you’re on the boat! It’s fun
and relaxing. Rent a boat for the weekend and bring some friends and sleep on the ocean.
This might not interest many teenagers but, the Boston Duck Tour is a great experience. The price ranges around
$32.95 for adults, which is considered any age over 11. 11 years old
and younger can pay $22.00. I went on one when I was five. The
prices are pretty affordable. I signed up for it at the Plainfield Recreation Center. It starts off as a bus, mine started off in Plainfield, it
fits a good amount of people, and it brings you all the way to Boston.
Then the wheels push up into the bus and it turns into a boat, and
they bring you into the water, and you see all types of ducks. Watching ducks may not be too exciting, but being on the boat is fun!
Some of these things may not appeal to you, but everything
is worth a try. Don’t give up something unless you’ve tried it before.
Who knows, you might actually end up liking it.
