Licensing for mortgage bankers is here and the Texas Mortgage Bankers
Association is ready to be the one-stop shop for quality training and all
information pertaining to complying with the newly passed law. The S.A.F.E.
Act requires all loan originators to attend 20 pre-licensing classroom hours of
study and pass a state and national test to originate mortgages in the state of
Texas. The deadline for completing these requirements is April 30, 2010.
The Texas Mortgage Bankers Association will offer courses as soon as
November of this year. The TMBA courses will be the highest quality, most
affordable and convenient training available. Additionally, by completing all of
the 20 hours through TMBA courses, loan originators will receive the following
at no additional cost: a one-year TMBA membership, loan originator’s name
listed on our web site, certificate indicating completion of TMBA Certified
courses, a TMBA member pin and emblem to place on their business card,
discounts to TMBA events, discounts to continuing education courses, TMBA
Legislative and Compliance updates
So, by taking TMBA courses, a loan originator will not only get quality training,
they will be recognized as a mortgage professional of the highest quality. That
is a deal no one else can offer.

Is an Approved S.A.F.E. Act
Education Provider
AUSTIN, TX – (August 17, 2009) – Texas Mortgage Bankers Association
(TMBA) has been approved as an educational provider through the Nationwide
Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) to offer courses under the Secure and Fair
Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE Act).
TMBA is taking a significantly large role in working with our regulators and all
mortgage lenders to ensure the continued strength of our residential real estate
markets. We will continue to meet the educational needs of our state by providing
up-to-date information, publications and instructional courses that not only meet
the SAFE Act licensing requirements but also expand the scope of mortgage
banking.
The SAFE Act, a part of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008
(HERA), establishes minimum national standards for mortgage training 20 hours
of pre-licensing and at least 8 hours of continuing education annually for loan
originators. Required subject matter includes federal law and regulations, ethics,
fraud, consumer protection and fair lending issues, as well as instruction on
mortgage origination. TMBA will offer all approved SAFE Act training privately at
company locations or onsite throughout the state of Texas.

TMBA has since its inception, played an active role in educating our members.
Since 1917, members of the Texas mortgage banking community have turned
to Texas Mortgage Bankers Association for its leadership in industry education,
legislative initiatives and peer interaction. Today, TMBA’s purpose is still to serve
the mutual interests of its members in order to preserve, enhance and advance
the mortgage banking and real estate finance business in the state of Texas.

Licensing Act of 2008 (S.A.F.E. Act) that became
law in July of 2008 will impact all mortgage loan

Mission. To provide funds and direction for action to be
taken on legislative initiatives.
Importance
Decisions made by the State Legislature impact not only
your livelihood, but your customer’s access to mortgage
money as well. In order for our voice to be effective in the
legislature, we must be successful at raising funds. We have
the ability to support candidates who share our industry
views. Also, we have a responsibility to protect not only
our businesses, but an availability of competitive mortgage
money to consumers. TMBPAC is a vehicle for individuals
to collectively become involved in the political process in
support of issues important to their work and lives.
Getting Involved
Your TMBPAC contribution reflects the commitment of
our industry statewide and works collectively with that of
other mortgage industry professionals to help candidates
favorable to our issues. Help protect the mortgage industry
in Texas by making a contribution to the TMBPAC today!

*All PAC contributions, like all other political contributions, must be
made by individuals. Contributions can be accepted from individuals,
sole proprietorships, partnerships and other political action committees.
Corporation’s cannot fund TMBPAC. Mortgage bankers who operate as
an individual or on an entrepreneur basis can contribute in that individual
capacity. All political contributions are of public record and all PAC’s are
required to make periodic reports to the Texas Ethic’s Commission of all
contributions received and all contributions made to candidates. A PAC can
make a contribution to another PAC unless it is precluded by its bylaws
or governing documents. Contributions made to the TMBPAC are neither
deductible as a business expense nor as a charitable contribution. Make
