Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
Dear Friends in Christ,
Happy Easter!
With our Easter celebration this weekend we commemorate, as we have in our two millennia history, the
resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. On that first Easter, “The First Day of the Week,” Jesus
showed himself to the Apostles as the risen Lord. This unexpected encounter, strange and unsettling, vividly presented before the Apostles, alive, the man who died three days earlier. He stands before them
with new life that can no longer be threatened by death. Hence He inaugurates a new type of life that has
changed the world. As such, at Easter we come to proclaim and celebrate with the church universal this truth that Christ
Jesus in dying destroyed our death and in rising has restored our life.
God so loved the world that he gave His son, a perfect man, for an imperfect world wounded by sin. Humanity wounded
by sin put itself at enmity with God, the source of life, and so inherited the just condemnation of death for, “the wages of
sin is death.” (Rom 6:33) Hence God made Him, His son Jesus, who knew no sin to become sin so that sin would die on
the cross in our place in order that we would become the righteousness of God. (2 Cor 5:21).
The good news of the resurrection has changed the course of human history for good. It is the foundation of all we do as
Christians; the love we show; forgiveness we offer; our prayers and almsgiving are all based on the foundation laid by
the resurrection. We are also convinced that even if we die doing good, we, like Jesus, will be raised in order that we
may live with God in eternal life. This is our faith. At baptism we received the down payment of our resurrection so we
could live in this world, in the newness of life in anticipation of eternal life. This new life seeks the things that are above
where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. May Jesus’ resurrection give to our parish family, collectively, and to all
of us, individually, the fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the impetus to live in the newness of life.
Happy Easter!
In Christ,
Fr. Godwin
In Gratitude
May I take this time to thank all of you; those who are always here, those visiting and those who have come after a long
time; thank you and welcome to our family of faith in St. Patrick parish. Our special thanks go to Deacon Dennis Holian
and family; Carleen Murphy and the liturgical team - lectors, Eucharistic ministers, altar servers, ushers; Cecilia Adams
and the choirs, Lisa Johnson and the Youth Ministry, our staff, the Arts and Environment team led by Kelley Orr, and the
many other individuals, who helped with Masses, Stations of the Cross on Friday and Pat Kane and Jeanette Dentro
and all others who helped with the Soup and Salad Dinners that followed. To all of you who made sacrifices of time, talents and treasures to see to the success of our Lenten and Easter celebrations, thank you.
Congratulations
We congratulate Michele Noble and Elizabeth O’Neill who were received into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil as
well as Rose Kniesel who completed the Sacraments of Initiation with Confirmation. Next Sunday they begin the final
part of their RCIA journey, Mystagogy (from the Greek words meaning “to lead through the mysteries”), which leads to
Pentecost Sunday. The newly baptized are called “neophytes,” from the Greek words meaning “new plant,” because the
faith has been newly planted in them. Even though their catechetical preparation has been completed, they still have
much to learn about what it means to live as Catholic Christians. We thank Bill Preston and the RCIA team who walked
with them on this journey of faith.
Come celebrate Divine Mercy with us next Sunday, April 3rd (the Second Sunday of Easter). Our Divine Mercy celebration will begin at 2:00PM with Confession followed at 2:30PM with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and at
3:00PM the sung Chaplet of Divine Mercy. We will finish with Mass at 3:30PM. If you attend Mass earlier in the day on
Sunday, and participate in the 3:30PM Mass, you are welcome to receive the Eucharist at this second Mass.

Ladies Guild Meeting
Next meeting of the St. Patrick Ladies Guild will take place
on Wednesday, April 6th, beginning with Mass at
11:30AM. The meeting will follow and take place in the
Lane Room with refreshments. All ladies of the parish are
invited.
Mark your calendars
for April 9 following
the 4pm Mass. We
are having Mime for
Life perform at our
parish. Mime for Life
is a group of teens that perform a
mimed performance that walks through
2 crisis pregnancies. It is a powerful performance showing
the merciful love of Christ and a Catholic pro-life message.
The group is organized at St. Mary's in Woodstock. The
performance is somewhat graphic, so we recommend it for
children 8th grade and older with parents in attendance. It
is a great conversation starter for families. The performance will last about half an hour, the group will provide a
question and answer time, and then we will have refreshments and social time. If you have any questions or would
like to help, please contact Lisa Johnson at 815-347-2583
or [email protected].

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
What Are The Extraordinary Graces of
Divine Mercy Sunday?
Within the Diary of St. Faustina, Jesus
mentions over and over, the great importance of The Feast of Mercy and the
extraordinary graces He will grant:
My daughter, tell the whole world about
My inconceivable mercy. I desire that
the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and
shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners.
The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy
Communion will obtain complete forgiveness of sins
and punishment (699).
I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that
will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion
on the Feast of My mercy (1109).
Whoever approaches the Fountain of Life on this day
will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment (300).
Not only are we completely forgiven by God, but we receive many additional extraordinary graces. I pour out a
whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. This is a day of miracles.
Ask and you shall receive. Knock and the door will be
open to you. The Lord always gives in abundance.
How to Observe the Feast of Mercy:
1) Celebrate the Feast on the Sunday after Easter.
(April 3, 2016)
2) Sincerely repent of all our sins by going to Confession, preferably beforehand.
3) Place our complete trust in Jesus.
4) Receive Holy Communion on the day of the Feast.
5) Venerate the Image of The Divine Mercy.
6) Be merciful to others, through our actions, words, and
prayers on their behalf.

Jubilee Year of Mercy
Easter Sunday of the
Resurrection of the Lord
This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad. Alleluia! Easter is always,
but especially in this Jubilee Year of Mercy,
the victory of God's gentle but invincible mercy raising up Jesus, "faithful witness, the first-born of the
dead" (Revelation 1:5), "first-born among many brothers
[and sisters]" (Romans 8:29), conquering death in all its
forms, in all of us in the human family. In Luke's Vigil Gospel, heavenly messengers send the women forth:
"Remember what [Jesus] said to you" (Luke 24:6). In
John's Gospel, the empty tomb likewise "sends forth" Mary
Magdalene, Peter, and the Beloved Disciple, who believe
though they do not fully understand. Finally, Luke's evening "Emmaus" Gospel sends us forth, as "missionaries of
mercy," assuring us that we will encounter the Risen Lord,
today and every day, in "the stranger" we meet along life's
journey, in "the Word that makes our hearts burn within
us," and "in the breaking of bread" (see Luke 24:32, 35).

Sacraments
Baptism of Infants:
To schedule a Baptism, please begin by calling the parish office. Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month
immediately after the 11AM Mass. Please consider scheduling your child’s Baptism before your child is born to ensure an opening in
the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is required for the parents. This class is offered on the 1st Sunday
of each month after the 9AM Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born.
Sacrament of Marriage:
At St. Patrick, couples planning to marry need to meet with the Pastor before a wedding date can be set. Please contact the parish
office to setup an initial meeting at least 6 months prior to any requested marriage date. This initial meeting will give you an overview of the requirements for marriage and the preparation required. At least one of the couple, or their parents, must be registered parishioners for at least 6 months and be active participating members of St. Patrick Church in order to be married at
the church. Both individuals must be at least 19 years of age.

Changing your life and your life circumstances takes courage and perseverance. A young mother in our community
was determined to do so after her marriage ended by finding a place to live and
a new job. However an old Nicor bill from her former residence threatened to damage her credit rating and restrict
her ability to have utilities turned on in her new apartment.
Thanks to your generosity to St. Vincent de Paul, this bill
was paid and this young family is well on their way to a
fresh new start!

A Prayer for Easter
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Hearts to heaven and voices raise.
Sing to God a hymn of gladness,
sing to God a hymn of praise.
He who on the cross a victim
tor the world’s salvation bled,
Jesus Christ, the king of glory
now is risen from the dead.
Alleluia, Christ is risen!
Death at last has met defeat
See the ancient powers of evil
in confusion and retreat.
Once he died and once was buried;
now he lives forevermore—
Jesus Christ, the world’s Redeemer,
whom we worship and adore. Amen.
