As a professional handler, Norman was best known for his involvement with American Cocker Spaniels, however, as a retired handler he wanted to own and breed one of what seemed like most everything, so that is what they did for a number of years until his death in 1995. After his death, Jean applied for and received her license to judge. She is licensed to judge the Sporting Group, half the Non-Sporting Group and Afghans and Norwegian Elkhounds. Her great love has always been for French Bulldogs and Afghans which she has owned and/or bred for over 35 years. Jean has had the privilege of judging in many foreign countries. Along with Norman they wrote "The Complete American Cocker Spaniel". She is a member of Santa Barbara Kennel Club, Morris & Essex and Dog Fanciers Association. She has a BS and an MBA and while she is retired she still works part of the year as a Tax Accountant. She lives in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Catherine Bell – Catherine has bred and exhibited Akitas for nineteen years. She became interested in judging and has been for 15 years. She is approved to judge the Working and Hound Groups and three Toy breeds (Havanese, Pugs and Poodles) at this time. She is approved to Judge BIS, Misc. and Jr's. Catherine has been active in the dog world serving for twenty two years as a delegate, and have served for 12 years as Second Vice President of the AKC/Canine Health Foundation Board of Directors. She is a life time member of the Tennessee Valley KC, and a member of the Akita Club of America, East Tennessee Retriever Club, and Morris and Essex Club. Catherine has been Show chair for many years for the TVKC and in the past for the Akita Club of America. All of which were very successful. She always enjoys a chance to judge and to see the great specimens that are brought to her to examine. In the past she has been honored to judge the Akita Club of America's National Specialty twice and have judged Regional Specialties of many breeds to include the Boxer, Doberman. Samoyed, Giant Schnauzer, and Siberian Huskies. Eugene Blake – Eugene got his start in dogs in 1954 as a bather at a Houston grooming shop. By 1957, he was exhibiting his own dogs of various breeds. He says, “I credit Hazel Hamm, along with Jimmy Andrews, for both being my mentors, teaching me about grooming, handling and ultimately propelling me into a lifetime of pure bred dogs. Along with Julie Mueller, his partner of 40 years, they breed Salukis under the Aurora kennel name. Mr. Blake judges the entire Sporting Group, Hound Group, Top Group and Non-Sporting Group, Best In Show and Junior Handlers. “When I was not allowed to eat or stay in restaurants and/or hotels as a person of color, so traveling to dog shows was a challenge. So for me personally, the most important accomplishment I achieve in the sport of dog showing dogs, is to lead by example as a professional in all respects, so that other people of color would be afforded the opportunities, successes, and career choices I had.” Andrew Brace – of Gwent, South Wales, began as an exhibitor of Boxers in 1967 but, although his first Champion was a Pekingese, he is best known for his work with hounds. He imported an Afghan Hound from Scandinavia whose progeny had a profound influence on the breed in Britain. Mr. Brace also had remarkable success breeding Beagles; his Ch. Too Darn Hot for Tragband holds the record for the most Challenge Certificates won in the breed. Her grandson, Ch. Dialynne Tolliver of Tragband, subsequently eclipsed his grand-dam’s Best in Show record and became one of the breed’s most significant sires. In the UK he is approved to judge more than 90 breeds at Championship level, and is also approved to judge all groups as well as Best in Show. Mr. Brace has been judging in America since the 1970’s and first officiated at Santa Barbara in the days of the Stevensons. A regular contributor to leading dog publications here and abroad, Mr. Brace is the author of The Essential Guide to Judging Dogs as well as books about Beagles, Boxers and Rottweilers. He was co-editor, with the late Anne Rogers Clark, of The International Encyclopedia of Dogs. Mr. Brace was the founding publisher of Dogs Monthly and in 2000 won the British Dog Writer of the Year award. Apart from judging, Mr. Brace regularly conducts seminars on various canine topics. With a UKimported bitch, Pluis began her challenging journey as a breeder. With a second UK bitch, she produced three champions, two of which were ranked 1 and 2 in the country, and a male All-Breed and National Specialty Best in Show Winner, who ranked outstanding sire two years. Michael Faulkner - Purebred dogs have been an integral part of Michael Faulkner’s life since childhood. As a youngster Michael was active in Junior Showmanship and assisted his parents with their kennel and breeding program. Michael says his understanding of breeding and judging dogs was greatly influenced by Peggy Grayson, Rae Furness, Mary Williams, Peter Chandler and Kay Holmes, England’s great Gundog experts, who mentored him through his formative years. During the late 1970s, Michael pursued his education, earning his B.F.A., M.S. Ed., from Alfred University, Alfred, N.Y., while maintaining a breeding program and actively showing his Golden Retrievers, Field Spaniels, English Springer Spaniels and Pointers. After college, Michael became a professional handler, while also continuing owning and breeding champion Golden Retrievers, Field Spaniels, Pointers, English Springer Spaniels and Pugs. Signature of owner or his agent duly authorized to make this entry: Telephone Email ADDITIONAL RULES Entries must reach the Superintendent, Jack Bradshaw, 5434 East Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles CA, 90022, by Noon, Wednesday August 10, 2016 PT. Fees should accompany entries. This club and/or its superintendent assume no responsibility for wrong or incomplete information given on the entry blank by the owner or agent of the owner. This club and its superintendents assume no responsibility for the owner or owner's agents entering a dog in a class in which the dog is not eligible to compete, or for entering the same dog twice. 2. Returned Checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Superintendent will add a collection fee to the amount of each returned check and declined credit card. Subsequent returned checks for the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis. The returned check or declined credit card MUST BE MADE GOOD by cash or money order BEFORE the dog will be allowed in the ring. 3. Exhibitors' Identification tickets and judging programs will be mailed to the address given on the entry blank. If not received within a reasonable time prior to the show, notify the superintendent. Tickets returned by the Post Office marked 'undeliverable' will be held at the Superintendent's Office. PLEASE BRING YOUR IDENTIFICATION TICKETS TO THE SHOW. 4. During the hours of judging owners are to be on call, and have their dogs ready to bring into the judging ring promptly, in order that the judging will not be delayed. Dogs need only be present for their judging. Dogs not needed for further judging may be excused. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to have his dog ready to be shown and at the entrance of the judging ring when the steward calls for the class. Owners of dogs or the handlers of the dogs alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging rings. This means it is not the responsibility of the ring steward, nor of any agent of the show-giving club to locate any dog, its owner or handler, when the dog's presence is needed in a judging ring. It should be understood by every exhibitor and handler that waiting for dogs to be brought into the ring is a courtesy extended to the owner or handler of the dog. There is no rule of this club nor of The American Kennel Club that requires a judge to wait for an owner or handler to bring his dog into the ring. Show hours 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. 5. Trophies and prizes will be awarded in the judging ring before the completion of the judging of the breed and the superintendent's office advised at once, in the event of any discrepancy. All trophies must be claimed the day of the show. None will be mailed. 6. Exhibitors are admonished to make themselves familiar with the agreement of the American Kennel Club, referred to on the reverse side of the entry blanks that accompany this premium list. Rule books are available at www.akc.org. 7. The club, its superintendents or their employees will not be responsible for the loss of or damage to any dog exhibited, whether the result of accident or other causes and in addition assumes no responsibility for any loss, damage or injury sustained by an exhibitor or handler. It is distinctly understood that every dog at this show is in the care and custody and control of his owner or handler during the entire time the dog is on the show premises. 8. No grooming tables, pens or exhibitors setups will be allowed in the aisles and all grooming must be done away from the judging ring in areas specified by the club. 9. Entry fees shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, sick, lame, excused by veterinarian or judge, barred from competition by action of the Bench Show Committee, or because the dog is ineligible to compete due to being entered incorrectly. There is no refund of entry fee for duplicate entry. There will be a $4.00 fee charged for cancellation of entry prior to closing of entries. 10. There is no provision offered for un-entered dogs at this show. 11. Declination of Entries. The Santa Barbara Kennel Club, Simi Valley Kennel Club and/or Los Encinos Kennel Club may decline any entries for cause and may refuse to receive or may remove any dog on account of disease, viciousness or other causes, and no one shall have any claim or recourse against the Kennel Club or any official thereof. 12. If, because of riots, civil disturbances or other acts beyond the control of the management, it is impossible to open or complete the show, no refund of entry will be made. 13. Do not leave any dogs in closed vehicles. 14. Dogs which according to their owners' records have completed the requirements for a championship after the closing of entries for the show but whose championships are unconfirmed, may be transferred from one of the regular classes to the Best of Breed or Variety Competition, provided this transfer is made by the Superintendent at least one half hour prior to the start of the earliest Conformation judging at the Show. 15. Junior Handlers who win a third Novice Class after the Closing of entries for a show may transfer their entry from the Novice Class to the Open Class provided that this transfer is made by the Superintendent at least one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of the earliest conformation judging or one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of Junior Showmanship judging at the Show, whichever is earlier. 16.
