March 2012
South Texas 2012 was a successful trip! As those here is Wisconsin have been enjoying the mild winter,
south Texas has been experiencing a drought for the past few months. This harsh weather provided us with
nearly perfect cover. Although bird numbers were low, with access to 4,500 acres, birds were easy to come
across. Typically we were working three to eight coveys per outing which provided the dogs with plenty of
bird contacts. We would like to thank everyone who sent their dogs with us on this trip. There were numerous compliments handed out to the Hay Creek dogs which not only is a reflection on the kennel but also on
you as the owners for being so involved and dedicated to the time and energy it takes to work your dogs to
their full potential.
As we have settled back in at home, spring is eagerly on our minds! Due to the current weather, we are hoping that we can jump back into work by mid-March. We will be offering a spring wild bird camp. Identical
to the camp we run each fall, dogs will be worked in the woods on both grouse and woodcock. This camp is
tentatively scheduled to begin on March 19th and will run for three weeks. Wild bird exposure is strongly
recommended for those of you who have young puppies needing puppy development or dogs that have solid
foundations. If you are a wild bird hunter, this is a great way for your dog to experience working wild birds.
Our regular training season will begin as soon as the weather allows. We would like to once again extend
our gratitude towards everyone who is already showing interest in getting their dogs here for training this
spring. Our goal is to begin working dogs here at the kennel at the very latest by May 1 st. If you have any
training needs please give us a call!
Along with the new training season, spring also brings the new schedule for our training seminars. You can
find the dates for the HuntSmith seminars at www.huntsmith.com. Hay Creek Kennel will once again be
hosting a Verein Deutsch Drahthaar Group North America seminar on June 9th - 10th. Please contact Sonny
or Shannon at 715-447-8767 for more information regarding these seminars. These seminars are a terrific
way to gain valuable knowledge on working with your dog while enjoying a fun weekend amongst other dog
enthusiasts!
With the growth and changes that have taken place over the last year here at Hay Creek Kennel, we are excited to announce that our website redesign has been finished and will be live for your viewing on March 1st.
It has been a big undertaking and will continue to be a work in process, however due to the nature of change
that our business has taken; we feel it will be a necessary tool for introducing our beliefs and training methods. Hay Creek Kennel has also started a blog that we hope can be a useful and informative spot for you to
see what is changing and evolving in the work we do with the dogs, view dogs or puppies that we have available for sale, or find information on topics of discussion that we believe are important. Please check it out at
http://www.haycreekkennel.com/blog/. If you prefer to receive HCK newsletters in an electronic format,
please visit www.haycreekkennel.com home page and submit your email address.
We would also like to announce that we have been involved with two breedings that are taking place in the
near future. Although we are not a breeding facility, we receive a few inquiries about puppies and therefore
would like to inform you that there will be some puppies available. If you are looking for an English pointer
puppy please contact Sonny at 715-447-8767. There is also a litter of Llewellin setters that will be available
early summer. If you would like more information regarding a Llewellin setter puppy please contact Brian
and Stephanie Graeb at 605-690-3026 or 605-690-5518. Brian and Steph are happy to introduce their new
business and are excited to be working with Brittany Kunde of Top Knotch Gun Dogs, in order to produce an
overall stronger Llewellin. You can also visit the Graeb’s website at www.setterssloughkennel.com.
We are blessed by your continued support and are very excited for what 2012 will bring us. It is shaping up
to be an even bigger and better year than the last. We look forward to working with you and your dog this
year!
