NEWSLETTER June 2012 - I Once Was Lost Animal Advocacy
www.Pawsitively.org 501(c)3 As we reach the milestone of mid-year 2012 we would like to extend a great big THANK YOU to our kind supporters for their generous donations. Because of you, in the first half of 2012, we have rescued, spayed/neutered, and placed 13 dogs in loving, forever homes. In addition, we currently have 7 rescue dogs(who have also been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworm, & micro-chipped), looking for their forever homes as well as 5 sanctuary dogs, who will live their lives safe and loved with us. This brings a total of over 50 dogs we have rescued, vetted, and placed in loving forever homes since we began our efforts in 2009. Not to mention the thousands of unwanted litters we have prevented by spaying/neutering and advocating. We would like to extend a special “thank you” to Dr. Eastwood at Triangle Chiropractic (www.TriangleChiropractic.net) for working tirelessly to fundraise for I Once Was Lost!! We would also like to thank Anne with Thundering Paws Animal Sanctuary for always keeping us in her thoughts and sharing information and contacts to help us. Please visit Thundering Paws, if you need more purrs in your life ☺ www.ThunderingPaws.org You may remember Mystique and her 7 puppies, who came to I Once Was Lost in May. All were all spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and adopted!! They are now beginning their beautiful journey through life safe and loved. Miss lovely Bluebonnet arrived with Mystique and her babies. She had been living, in a field, near a school. The security guard was feeding her at night in exchange for Bluebonnet doing her evening rounds with her. She enjoyed this little girl’s company very much but knew she wasn’t safe from snakes, the elements, traffic, and countless other dangers. We rushed to her aid as soon as we found out about her. After her vet care & spay, she found true love and is living happy and very spoiled in her new home. In January, we were blessed to be able to help Charlie & Gracie. Charlie was left to die by the roadside. We found him probably on what would have been the last day of his life. He has thrived on healthy food, supplements and a lot of love♥ He is now healthy and strong and ready to find his family to treasure him as he should be. Charlie the day we found him on the roadside Charlie today ☺ You might also remember Gracie. She was dumped at an apartment complex to fend for herself. Gracie was vetted and found a very sweet woman who adopted her. They spend their early mornings participating in a doggie walk group. She was a blessing and a gracious friend and support system for Charlie & now gets the reward of love forever for being so wonderful♥ Sometimes a good friend makes all the difference in the world! Our favorite poem includes the lines “My job is to assist God’s creatures. I was born with the need to fulfill their needs. I take in new family members without plan, thought, or selection…” by Annette King-Tucker Sometimes, “without plan, thought, or selection” is truer than other times. Never truer than when we brought in our latest Mama and puppies. Berry was dumped in a field when she was pregnant. She delivered four puppies. They were living near a wall with direct afternoon sun so horrible. They were also attacked by fire ants. One of the babies did not make it. We just couldn’t say no to this helpless family. Berry and her three little bitties have been a beautiful, glowing light for us. We are keeping the puppies with their Mama as long as possible for the best nutrition and the best teacher nature has to offer. When they are ready, all will be spayed/neutered and vetted then the search for love will begin. We were recently contacted by a woman who found an injured dog. Through the generous act of fostering by a kind family, we were able to help this beautiful girl. It turns out Ellie had a telephone cord wrapped around her neck, she had whip scars on her back AND she had been shot in the leg as a puppy. Her bone had actually grown around the bullet. With all of this abuse, Ellie is gentle and loving. She is now living like a queen in Mount Bonnell with a wonderful family. Then, we found out about Casper. He was 11 months old and had been LIVING ON A CHAIN since he was 8 weeks old. How could we say no to such a sad life? Casper has amazed us at how awesome he is!! He lived through last summer's horrible heat, the pain of a cold winter, as well as two dog attacks while he was chained. With all of that harshness, he has remained a super sweet, loving, wonderful dog. He is so sweet he would even leave food in his bowl so neighborhood dogs would come eat his food just so he could have company for a bit. He is PERFECT with other dogs. He is gentle, sweet & playful. I just can't express how awesome it feels to watch him run and bounce and play and experience joy for the first time in his life. ♥Casper is the definition of unconditional love♥ Then, along came Macho!!!! Macho was found dodging traffic at a gas station intersection. We vetted him and began the search for his forever home. He is the spunkiest, cuddliest, little doll face!! He recently found a loving home where they understand he is the master of the house ☺Macho was a really tough one to say ‘bye’ to. Sometimes, the goodbyes make us pull from some serious inner strength. Our most recent rescues are Sadie & River. Sadie appears to be a lab/beagle mix. Soon after we received her, we got a call from a woman looking for a very specific dog. One who could heal her 12 year old daughter’s broken heart. When she described her daughter and what she needed, I knew she and Sadie were meant for each other. The moment they met, they fell in love. Sadie’s new best friend waited patiently for us to spay her and make sure she is good with cats. She is wonderful and went to live with her new bestie mid-June. Good girl Sadie!! River was a super skinny little dumped girl. She appears to be a Plott Hound Mix. She’s unbelievably sweet. When she greets new people, she puts her face on the ground and her bootie in the air…toooo cute!!! She is putting on weight quickly and has been spayed, vaccinated, tested for heartworm and micro- chipped. ♥River is looking very forward to finding her forever family♥ We have held a couple of adoption events this year and plan on continuing that effort. Please keep us in mind if you, or someone you know, might be available to volunteer some time to help out. Your generosity is making all the difference in the world for these 25 dogs and all the dogs we will be able to say ‘yes’ to this year. I Once Was Lost continues to advocate for proper, kind treatment and spay/neuter of all pets. We can afford to continue our efforts simply because you care. THANK YOU!!! Please consider joining our ♥Circle of Love♥ by scheduling automatic monthly donations. You can do this by visiting our website, clicking on the donation jar and selecting ‘monthly’ on the Razoo donation page. This will guarantee many helpless, homeless pets find the love and happiness they deserve.
