Narrator 1: The nurse ran from her office. She
found Sadie about to fall in the hall.
Sadie: Oh! I have to lie down.
Nurse: Oh, dear! Oh, my! Come. Hold onto me.
Narrator 2: The nurse made Sadie lie down. She
checked to see if Sadie had a fever.
Nurse: You do not have a fever. What could be the
matter?
Sadie: Oh, but I feel so sick. I have to rest.
Nurse: Just rest, then. Stay here. Take a nap. I will
let your parents know that you are here. Max, you
can go back to class.
Max: Okay. Bye, Sadie. I hope you feel better.
Narrator 1: The nurse called Sadie’s mother.
3
Nurse: I just wanted you to know that Sadie is in
my office. She is not feeling well.
Mother: What happened? What’s the matter?
Nurse: Well, I can’t seem to find anything wrong.
She does not have a temperature. Though she says
she’s not feeling well. She is resting now.
Mother: If she does not feel better soon, please
call me. I will come and take her home.
Nurse: Don’t worry. I think she will be fine after a
nap.
Narrator 2: Sadie smiled to herself. She was not
sick at all. She just wanted to visit the nurse. After
about an hour, Sadie got up. She stretched.
Nurse: Here, have some juice, dear.
Narrator 1: Sadie drank her juice. She chatted
away with the nurse.
Narrator 2: That’s just what Sadie loved. At the
nurse’s office she got a special treat to eat. She got
lots of rest. She got to talk and talk with the nurse.
She had fun!
Nurse: Are you feeling better now, dear?
Sadie: I’m feeling much better!
4
Nurse: Then I will take you back to your class.
Narrator 1: The nurse walked Sadie back to her
classroom. Everyone had questions.
Milo: Sadie, you’re back! What was wrong?
Max: Are you feeling better?
Teacher: How is she, Nurse?
Nurse: She’s as good as new!
Narrator 2: It became a habit for Sadie. Day after
day, she would pretend to be sick. Then she would
go to the nurse’s office.
Narrator 1: One day, Sadie really did feel sick! She
felt hot. She felt weak. Her head hurt.
Sadie: Teacher, I feel sick!
Max: I’ll take her to the nurse.
5
Teacher: No, thank you, Max. Sadie, you do this
every day! The nurse never finds anything wrong!
You have to stay and do your work!
Sadie: I really am sick!
Milo: You are lying!
Sadie: No, I’m not! I am sick! I have to go to the
nurse!
Narrator 2: Then, the teacher felt Sadie’s forehead.
It was very hot! She sent Sadie to the nurse right
away.
Narrator 1: Sadie learned a good lesson.
Sadie: I will never say that I am sick when I am not.
That way, when I need help, people will believe me.
Narrator 2: Sadie kept her word from that day on.
She did not lie about being sick again. Still, she did
visit the nurse sometimes, just to talk.
