leaders, creative professionals, public servants and community
members. We are at the front lines in communities across the
country, advocating for opportunities like the one we received
at Joliet Township High Schools twenty years ago.

Founded in 1996 by JTHS students Cristi Washington (Central
– Class of ’97) and Erick Deshaun Dorris (Central – Class of
’99), United In Excellence was a Greek-style, step team that
started in the community in 1996. UIE ran as an official, JTHS
after-school program from 1998 – 2004.
During those years, the program brought together over 100
participants from both JTHS campuses. Partnerships with area
churches and community centers allowed the program to offer
after-school, intercession and summer programming as well as
field trips and performance opportunities across the
Chicagoland area.
As the 20th anniversary of the program’s founding approaches,
our members have reconnected to launch a fundraising
campaign to support current - and future - student programs
at JTHS. These funds, to be allocated through a small-grants
program, will be available to teachers, staff and faculty to
create similar opportunities for current students at JTHS.
Today, we are inviting you to help us meet our $50, 000 goal
by November 12, 2016!

culminating event of our campaign, including a celebratory
performance by United In Excellence alumni along with special
guest artists and current JTHS students. This positive-themed
production will be a beacon of advocacy for student programs at
JTHS. 100% of your sponsorship will go directly towards the
student program fund, administered in partnership between
UIE and JTHS, District #204.
