TO THE
WORD
Exodus 17:8–13
As long as Moses kept his hands raised up, Israel
had the better of the fight.
Psalm 121
“Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven
and earth.”
2 Timothy 3:14—4:2
The scriptures train you to stay with the task.
Luke 18:1–8
Be persistent in prayer, especially in the pursuit of
justice.
Although our first reading depicts a violent battle,
the point is clearly made that continual prayer brings
results. Not only that, but we can help each other to
pray. Listening to this reading and the others, what
else can we learn about persistence and prayer today?

Next week, we celebrate
World Mission Sunday.
Its theme this year is
“Mercy Changes the
World.” Pope Francis invites the Church to support
the young mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe,
where priests, religious and lay leaders serve some of
the poorest of the poor. Please keep the missions in
your prayers and be generous in next week’s collection for the Society of the Propagation of the Faith.

Diocesan Appeal
Consider the words from the book of Tobit: “It is be er
to give alms than to treasure up gold. For almsgiving delivers from death, and it will purge away every sin. Those
who perform deeds of charity and of righteousness will
have fullness of life.”
We have a ained 18% of our goal of $78,000 with only
81 of our 1338 families contribu ng to the Appeal. This
weekend is Pledge Weekend. On behalf of Fr. Boyle, I ask
you to consider doing your part to help us reach and exceed our goal. Remember, MHT Parish will receive back
75% of any amount over our goal. Fr. Boyle intends to
put this rebate into our building fund, bringing us closer
to building a home for our parish. Please, pray, and consider making a pledge of $60 or more to help both our
Diocese in bringing the Good News to others, and our
parish in raising funds for our church here in Cresco.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the
Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
The world was a playground for Mickey,
a naive Irish American kid bored with
his life. His father served in World War
II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam;
now it was his turn. His 365 days in
Vietnam builds in torment until an
attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia.
Wounded, his friend captured, he
becomes a tormented survivor knowing
he is always just a heartbeat from death.
