DID YOU KNOW
Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Math = STEM!
• The fastest-growing occupations over the next
ten years are in STEM fields.
It is such a privilege to be part of North
Shore Community College as we celebrate
the College’s 50th Anniversary! The
celebration started with the moving
September 2014 Inauguration of the
College’s new President, Dr. Patricia
Gentile. It will continue as we break
ground later this year for 10 new
classrooms at our Lynn Campus. Our
youth programs will continue to focus on
fun and educational classes that promote
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts,
and Math skills and challenges.
Look over our Winter/Spring Saturday
morning classes, as well as our April
Vacation and after school opportunities
with your child. Join us for some great
classes that help build self- esteem and
unite kids with similar interests from all
over the North Shore.
Here’s to 50 more years of learning at
North Shore Community College!
Nancy Tracy,
NSCC Youth Programs Coordinator
[email protected] 978-236-1200
• S TEM occupations have grown 8% in the last
10 years and are expected to grow twice as fast
(17%) in the next ten years.
How much does a course cost?
Each class is $99 or $198 for two. Instructors
may charge a materials fee which is indicated
by the course description. Please pay this fee
at the first class, to the instructor.
Are there discounts if I sign up for two classes
or have more than one child registering?
North Shore Community College is committed
to keeping the cost as low as possible, therefore,
tuition is priced accordingly so that no other
discount is available.
How do I register?
There are three easy ways: fax, mail, or over
the phone. See Registration Form.
How many classes can my child take?
Your child may take up to two classes each
Saturday morning.
Session 1 runs from 9:00 AM–10:30 AM
Session ll runs from 10:40 AM–12:10 PM
Why do classes sometimes get cancelled
and how can I help to be sure they run?
We need to give our instructors five days notice
if their class is not going to run. Therefore, if
we can get as many registrations in as early
as possible, everyone wins.
Is my child always accompanied by an
adult to classes and bathroom breaks?
Absolutely! Kids to College students (grades
K–3) are taken as a group for bathroom breaks
with a counselor. North Shore Academy
students (grades 4–8) always go with a partner
or counselor. All instructors, counselors, and
staff are CORI checked for everyone’s safety.
How do I know if our class is cancelled
due to inclement weather?
• M
any of the highest-paying jobs require STEM
preparation and STEM workers earn 26% more
than their non-STEM peers.
Add Art and it’s STEAM!
• Arts and Problem Solving – Artistic creations
are born through the solving of problems. How
do I turn this clay into a sculpture? How do I
portray a particular emotion through dance?
How will my character react in this situation?
Without even realizing it, kids that participate
in the arts are consistently being challenged
to solve problems. All this practice problem
solving develops children’s skills in reasoning
and understanding. This will help develop
important problem-solving skills necessary for
success in any career.

I see there is a crossover in some classes
for kids in grades 4-8. Why is that?
We have found that many kids taking classes in
certain subjects work together well and it is not
so much about age as it is ability!
