THE WONDERFUL LIFE OF COLIN VEARNCOMBE AN INTIMATE PROFILE OF THE ARTIST KNOWN AS BLACK SIMPLE FILMS PRESENTS A FILM BY STUART CRESSWELL In 1987, Black’s song “Wonderful Life” struck music chart gold. For most people, only the memory of that song remains - the signature tune to their own lives - wonderful or not. Producer/Director: Stuart Cresswell Office: 10 Field Street, Shepshed, Leics, LE12 9AL Tel: 01509 602148 Email: [email protected] Simple Films Ltd www.simplefilms.co.uk Film maker Stuart Cresswell was granted privileged access to his long time friend Colin Vearncombe (a.k.a. Black) during a tumultuous period in his life. We see him at work in his own recording studio and - in a surreal sequence - sitting alongside a huge iconic photo of his face for the opening night of his film. Colin’s untimely death in January 2016 at the age of 53, at a time when his star was once more ascending, has left a hole in so many lives and has been felt keenly in his adopted home town of Schull in Ireland. We find in Colin a humble, generous, thoughtful, creative genius. These intimate interviews and scenes have never before been seen and his fans around the world would welcome the insight into this normally private man. Filmed intimately at his home on the coast in Co. Cork, Colin talks about his work since “Wonderful Life” (3 hit albums with A&M before releasing 17 more on his own label); touring; his forays into film and video music and the launch of his own film ‘Water on Stone’ at a film festival. He also talks about his art - not just music but poetry and paintings. Then there are the thoughts about his private life, the task of settling and rebuilding a life in rural Ireland and becoming part of the community in so many ways. Our footage also includes interviews with some of his friends, but in light of Colin’s very recent and sad death, we could reach out to more people for further insights into the man with the golden voice who wrote some of the finest songs in recent years. Colin Vearncombe will be acknowledged in years to come as a true and rare talent in the music world. These interviews could help us to remember the very genuine and much loved man who made the lives of all he touched...wonderful.
