MESSAGE FOM THE HIGH PRIESTESS
Well, summer has gone…we can feel the air get colder with beautiful change of
colors around us.
I want to thank all of you who were here during the official visit of Lady Jan Hiebert.
Thank you for all your good work! To all those who could not join us that evening,
we missed you. You missed the opportunity to meet the Grand High Priestess, a
very sweet and lovely lady.
The banquet at the Pacific Beach Hotel was very nice and my compliments to the members of the Pacific Pearls
Unit for the outstanding entertainment they provided us that afternoon. The luncheon at the Willows on the
second day after the visit to the Shriners Hospital for Children was delightful, as well. Thank you all for joining
us and making these occasions very memorable. It would be remiss of me if I did not express my gratitude to
Lady Stella for organizing the event at the Pacific Beach Hotel and Lady Gail and Lady Jean that of the hospital
tour.
Our biggest fund raising “Murder Mystery” is coming up. Please let us support Lady Miriam when she calls
on us for help. Let us make this event a success.
I ‘m looking forward to seeing you all in our next meeting in November. We are going to have initiation.
Thank you ladies for bringing your friends. Keep those petitions coming!

Hospital Visit
Message from the Princess-…………
Hawaii Court #60 once again will host & present: Mystery Theatre!! This time
it is “Murder at the Academy Awards.” This will be our 6th Fund raising event
to benefit the Children of the Shriner’s Hospital. So Ladies, let’s roll up our
sleeves and help me get ready to roll out the Red Carpet.
This will take place Saturday, February 22, 2014 in Manoa Grand Ballroom at
the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii. The Address is 2454 South Beretania
Street. Doors open at 4:00 PM. Dinner and Show from 7 PM and it is a Dinner Buffet. Price is $50.00.
Thank you for those who agreed to do a specific job for this event and I appreciate that. A lot is in the work so
please let Stella and me know what you are interested in doing. We can always use any kind of help from every
member.
Just a reminder: I will appreciate donations of items for door prizes or Silent Auction. Maybe you can bring
them to our Stated Meeting or whenever we meet. But please bring something that you will be happy to receive.
As most of you know, I started the Papa John Pizza Fund raising and for a short time I sold most of it and I still
have some more. Thank you so much for helping me with this and for those who I didn’t have the chance to
reach please let me know.
I have now in my possession the tickets for the Murder Mystery. I am preparing to give each member 10 tickets
and it will be in your hand somehow. Thank you in advance.
Last but not least, thank you for all your prayers and concern for my family and of course for my Noble Rick.
He is still in Rehab in Kapolei but will be going home next week Wednesday. He can walk using a walker. God is
good.
Swans Love and Aloha,
Princess, Miriam Fortuno

After attending and having a wonderful time at Grand Council in May, I also had the pleasure of attending
WAOUM in September in Tucson, Arizona. What a fun event. This year it was especially fun as we weren’t putting the event on. We just took it all in and enjoyed. As part of the Pacific Pearls we danced and surprised the
audience as we gracefully moved from our hula and jumped right into a “Line Dance”. What a reaction from the
crowd. You should have seen their faces and heard their laughter. They joined in with clapping to the rhythm.
Of course it is always fun to take in the local sites. However; the best part of the trip was being able to visit with
our friends. It was nice to see my counterparts and my Grand Officer, Mama Joy, Grand Associate Princess to
bring each other up to date. Also it was nice to visit with our very own Grand Council Officer, Janet Larson,
Second Ceremonial Lady. However the best part was that it gave us the opportunity to be at the official visits for
the Tucson and Phoenix Courts. It was nice to see how they run their meetings and to see what they do for their
dinners before the meeting. We took notes and have some good ideas. We loved the “Taco Pile On”. Yum!
Ladies, a reminder the monthly Bingo with the Children at the Honolulu Shriners Hospital for Children is on
the last Monday of each month at 2:30pm. It’s a fun time. The children and parents enjoy the special time. The
children are mostly from Fiji, Guam, and American Samoa. Some of the children enjoy calling the numbers and
take turns. I always have fun picking out the treats each month for them to enjoy when we are finished. If you
would like to help out, please give me a call.

Notes from Lady Linda Brice, 1st Ceremonial Lady,
I hope everyone had a great summer. We had a wonderful Official
Visit with GHP Lady Jan Hiebert in early September. The Pacific Pearls
danced for her at our Luncheon. Tommy and Lady Fay Arigo HP treated us to a great luncheon after Lady Jan’s arrival on Sept 9th. Thanks
again to the Arigos.
We had a beautiful Official Visit on the 11th at Scottish Rite with lots
of picture taking. Lady Janet Larson, G 2nd C L, and PHP of Hawaii
Court, was also here for a short visit. Lady Janet, you need to come
back soon to Hawaii. We miss you very much.
Shortly after the OV, the Ladies left for WAOUM in Tucson where they
all had a great time.
We have 23 Pacific Pearl members who are purchasing a muumuu from T&L Muumuu Factory. We picked different styles but the same fabric. They should be ready by the end of November. Thanks to all of you who ordered
a muumuu. We will look great all in the same fabric.
Please remember to support the Halloween Party for the Children at Shriner’s Hospital on October 31st. Dress
up if possible but nothing too scary for the children.
As you all know, I am in Canada visiting family and friends until the 27th of October. I am attending a niece’s
wedding, celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving, and hoping to visit Bokhara Court No 22 before I come home.
I have already seen 8 ladies with whom I went through Girl Guides as a young girl. It was a great reunion. We
haven’t changed a bit in 50 plus years!
This time of Thanksgiving is a time to really stop and count our blessings. We are so lucky to live in Hawaii, have
such wonderful friends, and have our health. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I miss you all and look forward
to seeing each and every one of you at the Halloween Party.
Aloha for now.
Keep Soaring with the Eagles,
Linda

Aloha!
Here we are, half-way through our
year, and we’re rolling right along!
I wish I had been able to attend
Grand Council this year, but I will
be there next year. I’m really looking forward to the fun and meeting my classmates and other ladies
from all over!
The next thing on my agenda is the
Hospital Halloween Party and it’s on
Halloween this year! Please come and
join us at noon and wear a costume
and have fun with the kids!
I’m also making plans for our Court Christmas Party. I think it will be festive and fun. I don’t want to have
too many names on my “naughty” list, so dress up in your favorite Christmas outfits and hop in your sleigh
and come on over to the 7 Palms Restaurant on December 6th at 6:00pm.
And if you’re into dancing, join the Pacific Pearls and I’ll show you how we’re “Puttin’ On The Ritz” for the
Murder Mystery next year. We have a full year and we’re having fun! Until next time…
“Owl” be seeing you!!

ALOHA Ladies
The Ladies in our unit have been having fun learning and practicing new dances
as well as relearning the “old” dances every Thursday evening. Please come and
join us if you are able.
In May, the unit performed at Grand Council, dancing The Lord’s Prayer at
the Official Opening and the Wind Beneath My Wings – E Ku’u Morning Dew
medley at the Drills. At the end of June our unit performed at the Mary Magdalene Fiesta for our High Priestess Faye Arigo dancing The Lord’s Prayer and
the Wind Beneath My Wings – E Ku’u Morning Dew medley once more. At our
Official Visit the ladies performed for Grand High Priestess Lady Jan Hiebert
and guests at our Court Luncheon. There we danced Fan Tan Fanny, From A
Dancer, and Edelweiss. The ladies went to WAOUM in September and danced to Paniolo Country which gave
our Mainland sisters a big laugh. We were invited by the United Chinese Society to perform for the residents
of Palolo Chinese Home where we danced From A Dancer and the Wind Beneath My Wings – E Ku’u Morning Dew medley.
As we prepare for the Holidays we are revving up to show off our Christmas dances at the Annual LOSNA
Christmas Party and my Installation as ACUW’s President.
The Pacific Pearls are happy to announce we have a beautiful Pink Muumuu as a unit uniform for everyone –
performers and non-performers.
Lastly we are learning a couple new and jazzy dances for the upcoming Fund Raiser in February – “Murder At
the Academy Awards” where we are performing Puttin’ On The Ritz and All That Jazz. Can’t wait to have you
watch our Ladies do their foot stomping action.
