Va. Soprano Anna Netrebko’s dramatic and
vocal skills are on full display in her new role
at the Met—Leonora, the Verdi heroine who
sacrifices her own life for the love of the gypsy troubadour. Tenor Yonghoon Lee sings
the ill-fated Manrico, baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky is his rival, and mezzo-soprano
Dolora Zajick is the mysterious gypsy with

Wagnerian tenor Johan Botha takes on the
daunting title role, opposite soprano EvaMaria Westbroek as Elisabeth. Baritone

• OCT. 16-18 and 21-30: Haint Mistress Donnamarie Emmert is in her 19th
season of the Abingdon Spirit Tour. Ghost
tales and haunted history weave together for
a two-hour jaunt through Abingdon. The tour
begins at 7:30 p.m., at the gazebo of the
Martha Washington Hotel. Comfortable shoes

International Storytelling Center, Jonesborough, Tenn., at 2 p.m. He mixes stories of
the American Revolution, the Civil War and
