The image was created using wheat paste which was mixed with acrylic paints and then enhanced with coloured pencils. It is very durable and water resistant and can be attached simply by putting a series of clear thumbtacks along the edges. Robertson ~ 1979 24 ¼” x 18 ¼”, framed Watercolour original #092 Painting by Kenneth Lochhead ~ possibly 1952 35” x 29 ¼”, framed #093 Kenneth Lochhead was born in Ottawa and was appointed the Director of the School of Art at the University of Saskatchewan’s Regina campus in 1950 and remained in Regina until 1964. In 1955, while in Regina, he initiated the Emma Lake Professional Artists’ Workshops, which brought about a renaissance in Saskatchewan art and helped propel it onto the international scene. He was also a member of the Regina Five painters who exhibited at the National Gallery in 1961 and who were considered to be at the forefront of Canada’s modern art movement at that time. H. E. Set of 3 framed pictures Each one measures 10 ¾” x 9”, framed #098 On back of one of the pictures: “This “painting” was done by Cathi Beckel, a former student at Thom(?) living now in Earl Gray. The “painting is of the elevators at Earl Gray, but the term “painting” is not accurate. Cathi has devised an innovative approach which is neither watercolor painting nor batik, but a combination. She paints the cotton fabric with the palest colors (or leaves spaces white), then preserves these by covering them with wax. The fabric is dyed, then waxed in progressively darker colors. The method is similar to Ukrainian Easter eggs. Some of the wax is left in the fabric to give a protected surface.” 23 “Wheels” Oil Painting - Della M. Rankin of Shilo, Manitoba 34 1/8” x 27 ¾”, framed; valued at $250 in July, 1969 #099 Reserve Bid of $75 Lucibelle Sorenson Painting ~ 1970 50 ¼” x 26 ½”, framed #100 Frame is slightly damaged. Custom framed by Paintin’ Place, Fort Qu’Appelle. The great granddaughter of Chief Dan Kennedy, Lucibelle Sorenson likes to recreate scenes from the past in her paintings. She generally paints prairie scenes from Carry The Kettle reserve, and does a few mountain scenes when requested to. “Chinese Man” Painting - Heather Bishop, 1977 19 ½’ x 29 ¾” Original on canvas with wooden frame. #101 Heather Bishop, a friend of Calling Lakes Centre, is an accomplished musician/singer-songwriter, social activist, keynote speaker, visual artist, published author, and tradeswoman. “A Fisherman’s Pipe Dream” Print - Luther Pokrant, 1977 25 1/8” x 32 ¼” framed, metal frame Luther Pokrant was born in Rosenfeld, Manitoba and was a lecturer at the University of Regina for 4 years. This is print 446/750. #102 24 “Midnight Journey” Painting - Dorrie Petty (Elf) 23 1/8” x 30 ¾”, framed #103 Dorrie Petty (Elf), from Naramata, B.C. says this about her painting: “When I paint, I feel at one with the universe. My paintings reflect the interconnection and sacredness of all life, and are at once a personal and political journey which visions the re-birthing of Earth/Self.” Of this particular painting she states “Midnight Journey is an expression of a most privileged walk on earth for me.” She goes on to relate how in 1993-94 she walked with her life companion as she ‘walked courageously into the face of death, living each day with dignity, and every ounce of vigor she could muster.’ A poem that her friend wrote about the dragons and wolves hiding in the corners of your easel and teasing at your memory ‘drawing you into some ancient truth That seems to be choosing you to be reborn on paper…..’ inspired this painting. Original Painting - Ernest Luthi, valued at $2,200 35 ½” x 29 ½” framed #104 A very popular painter of agrarian Saskatchewan scenes, Ernest Luthi was born in Zeebach, Switzerland. His family immigrated to a homestead near Punnichy, Saskatchewan in 1914. In 1951 he began painting full-time because of ill health. His work is included in Saskatchewan’s major public and corporate collections as well as in numerous private collections. In recognition of his contribution to the visual arts in the province, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Regina in 1975.
