#098
On back of one of the pictures:
“This “painting” was done by Cathi Beckel, a former student at
Thom(?) living now in Earl Gray.
The “painting is of the elevators at Earl Gray, but the term
“painting” is not accurate. Cathi has devised an innovative
approach which is neither watercolor painting nor batik, but a
combination.
She paints the cotton fabric with the palest colors (or leaves
spaces white), then preserves these by covering them with wax.
The fabric is dyed, then waxed in progressively darker colors. The
method is similar to Ukrainian Easter eggs.
Some of the wax is left in the fabric to give a protected surface.”

23 1/8” x 30 ¾”, framed
#103
Dorrie Petty (Elf), from Naramata, B.C. says this about her painting:
“When I paint, I feel at one with the universe. My paintings reflect
the interconnection and sacredness of all life, and are at once a
personal and political journey which visions the re-birthing of
Earth/Self.” Of this particular painting she states “Midnight Journey
is an expression of a most privileged walk on earth for me.” She
goes on to relate how in 1993-94 she walked with her life
companion as she ‘walked courageously into the face of death,
living each day with dignity, and every ounce of vigor she could
muster.’ A poem that her friend wrote about the dragons and
wolves hiding in the corners of your easel and teasing at your
memory ‘drawing you into some ancient truth That seems to be
choosing you to be reborn on paper…..’ inspired this painting.
