tournament management related to KeSPA.
Q1. Please introduce yourself briefly.
Glad to have a chance to introduce me through G&e. I am Dong Gu You in
Business team in KeSPA. Also I am working as a referee.
I think most of people working in e-Sports field start their career as they
love game. I also enjoyed both watching and playing game. SKY proleague
final was my first time to watch e-Sports match and it drove me to get more
attractive about e-Sports. In 2007, I applied for e-Sports referee in KeSPA,
and my career started since that time.
When I was impressed the most in my career was the time I was working as
a chief referee at the stadium. I felt both nervousness and pride. Also, when
I was working as a referee in a Chinese event, I was surprised at e-Sports
fans who had high interests in referees. Last year, I was managing e-Sports
competition in the 4th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games, which is one of
Multi Sports Events hosted by Olympic Council of Asia. It was the most
meaningful event, as I was admitted as an official Sport referee.
Currently most of e-Sports business is related to global field. So, I am
striving to studying English.
Q2. Please explain what is KeSPA Cup
I was taking charge of managing players for global events in last year. It
made me think about methods that the system in global events is adapted to
Korea and KeSPA Cup has been brought up. Although KeSPA Cup 2014
consists of only Starcraft II, as it was initially planned as WCS global event,
it will be positioned as one of the largest global event with various game
titles from next year.
In Korea, e-Sports is more concentrated on Pro-players whereas Amateur
Q5. What is your plan and vision in e-Sports field ?
My role model is Mr. Hyung Seok, Seo, who is a general manager in
KeSPA business team. He is a person filled with calm judgment and
leadership, and I want to be a person like him. When I have my children in
the future, I hope to see positive aspect of game through e-Sports. This year,
I am encouraged by all of my colleagues in KeSPA. I want to meet their
expectation through coming Proleague final and KeSPA Cup 2014.
events are not well known. But everyone can participate in KeSPA Cup as it
is held in out of proleague season and opened to both pro and amateur
players.
Q3. What is your role in KeSPA Cup?
I was taking charge of all management of event operation. Especially I am
handling whole planning, establishing regulations and invitation for referees
and players. I used to be nervous when I started to take charge of this, but
now I am eager to make it bigger.
The operation method is interesting and new attempt for me as the
preliminary of KeSPA cup is operated through online competition,
sometimes I felt hard though.
