Solids Handling Pumps Recessed Vortex Impeller Pumps Excellent Engineering Solutions CLEAR LIQUID The Vortex Principle The VORTEX technique developed by WEMCO is based on the principle of a whirlpool : a vortex is created by the rotating recessed impeller, extending into the suction line, drawing the liquid / solids into the pump and then quickly through the discharge whilst minimising fluid / solids contact with the impeller and the volute. This provides the WEMCO pump with a gentle pumping action and good resistance against wear with little risk of plugging Characteristics and Advantages of the Vortex The WEMCO hydraulics design reduces wear Less chance of pump blockages The WEMCO recessed impeller has a curved profile, which directs solids away from the volute walls and on through the discharge, thereby considerably reducing wear. This exclusive concept, when associated with tangential discharge, provides unequalled resistance qualities and thus greatly reduces the risk of choking. The WEMCO vortex pumps are designed with the impeller fully recessed in the volute casing providing an unobstructed passage way between suction and discharge allowing suction size solids, whether soft, hard or fibrous to pass through the pump without choking. Extending pump life The WEMCO pump has no close tolerances or wear rings in the pump chamber and because the majority of particles do not touch the impeller or the volute, wear is reduced to a minimum. In addition, with different material options available the working life of the product can be further extended. Less Maintenance Simply and robustly designed, the WEMCO pump needs minimum maintenance, no special tools, and no complex adjustments.
