What can I do that will have a positive impact?” Scripture provides one powerful answer: PRAYER. The Respect Life Ministry of St. John’s would like to invite you to pray for a baby in danger of losing its life to abortion, through a program called “Spiritual Adoption.” A participant pledges to pray every day for nine months for the health and safety of one unknown and unborn child, “adopting” this child spiritually..We will begin the Spiritual Adoption program on this Father’s Day weekend, ending on the Feast of the Annunciation in March 2015. Prayer cards are available in baskets at the exits of the church. Please take one as you leave Mass today. Thank you! You make such a wonderful difference!! Watch the bulletin for information on the growth progress of your Spiritually Adopted Baby. As noted on page 2, your role is at once essential and sublime! Let us each offer a prayer for our father today, whether living or deceased. It is also the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, the mystery of One God in the three Divine Persons of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. May we also thank God, our loving Father, for sending us His Son, Jesus, who in turn sends us the Holy Spirit! +++ Last call for women of the parish who wish to participate in the Cornerstone Retreat on the evening of June 20th and the full day of June 21st: We MUST HAVE YOUR REGISTRATION FORM WITH PAYMENT IN THE RECTORY BY TOMORROW MORNING!!! See the information and registration forms at the doors of the church or in the rectory. +++ This weekend, our Spanish Community will be conducting its annual Car Raffle for the benefit of our parish programs. Please lend your support. Msgr. Richard Arnhols, Pastor Reflection on Today’s Readings The doctrine of the Trinity strikes many, both Christians and non-Christians, as one of the more exotic and esoteric of Christian doctrines. Somehow, three divine persons add up to one God. But today’s scriptures cut to the heart of the matter. The doctrine of the Trinity is our way of understanding the truth that we live every day as Christians: that God the Father has saved us through his Son Jesus Christ and made us into one people, united in the Holy Spirit. It is the experience of this salvation that is at the root of our knowledge of God as Trinity. Of course, the Trinity is not simply a scheme that we come up with as a way of talking about our experience of salvation. It is also, we believe, how God really is. God is, from all eternity, a communion of love shared among Father, Son, and Spirit. It is because God includes us in this eternal love through becoming one of us in Jesus that we have eternal life. Our salvation is nothing less than our inclusion in the love that is the Holy Trinity. This is one reason why Paul exhorts the Corinthians to “encourage one another, agree with one another, and live in peace.” It is through actions such as these that our lives mirror the communion of love that is the Trinity. So the Trinity is what must be true of God if our experience of salvation is true: through the grace of Jesus Christ we become partakers of the love of God in the communion that the Holy Spirit establishes among us and between us and God. The doctrine of the Trinity might be thought of as the affirmation that who God shows himself to be in the story of salvation is who God truly is in eternity. “God of love, help me to seek your presence day by day, so I may come to live in you, and one day live with you for eternity. Amen.” Stewardship: Sharing our Time, Talent, and Treasure! “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” John 3:16 Is your love conditional? Is there a price others have to pay to receive your love? Are you generous with your time, money and possessions? If you give someone something, do you expect something in return? Do you give your time freely or do you “fit it in” when it’s convenient for you? Our Sunday Offering: Sunday, May 18, 2014—$19,949.92 May 19, 2013—$14,769.13 Reminder: If you would like to join our Electronic Giving Program, please go to our website www.sjrc.org and click the “Parish Giving” icon to set up your account for this reliable means of making your offerings to our parish! 2014 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal Parishioner Pledges as of June 9, 2014: $165,509.00, which is 178% of goal of $92,953.00; 77% of stretch goal of $214,035.00 Please use pledge envelopes in church or rectory to make a monthly pledge or one time gift!
