Spend One Hour with Me in the Blessed Sacrament
Come and spend time with Me to recite silently your favorite
prayers like the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet, read My
messages in the Bible, contemplate acts of faith, hope and
charity, thanksgiving, healing and reparation. Or simply
keeping Me company, just as you would a dear friend.

Here’s a simple test to find out whether your

Pastor’s Desk
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our Jovenes de Jesus Youth and Young Adult Prayer Group is sponsoring a Bilingual Eucharistic Worship Concert in Conlon
Hall on Saturday August 8th, from 7pm to 10:30pm. Entitled “Come As You Are,” this is not just for youth, open to all from age
10 through 99! There will be music, adoration, healing, and many blessings. This may be good for someone who has been away
from the church for a while or for someone who simply wishes to get closer to Jesus in prayer and worship. A $10 donation will
be requested in advance or at the door. Members of our Jovenes group will say a little more about this at the end of our Masses
this weekend.
+++
Thank you to all those who continue to make their pledges to our “We Are Living Stones” Capital Campaign. Your pledges
toward our goal of $1,066,452 now total $720,086.00. Based on the payments to date, we may expect at least $41,051.23 to come
back to us in October (more by then as your payments are made, and some each quarter after that). This will help us to begin to
cover the costs of replacing the two heating/cooling units for Conlon Hall (which was delayed last week due to a delivery problem
but done this week for $50,785.00) and the Church boiler, estimated between $60,000.00 and $80,000.00. So, if you have not
made a pledge, payable over four years, please consider doing so now. Pledges may be dropped off at the rectory, placed in the
collection basket, or sent directly to the Archdiocese. I count on each family to make some contribution to our parish and our
Archdiocese through this Campaign.
Msgr. Richard Arnhols, Pastor
Reflection on Today’s Readings
This Sunday’s readings can be thought of as continuing the theme of the hazards of being a prophet. Jesus sends out the Twelve
“unarmed,” with no food, sack, or money. All they have is the authority over “unclean spirits” - the forces of sin, sickness, and
death - that Jesus confers upon them. Their mission depends entirely on this, and it proves to be far more valuable than any
material provisions. Likewise in the first reading, we hear not only of Amos’s hostile reception by the priest Amaziah, but also of
how unprepared he was for this mission as a prophet—he was just minding his business, with no prior prophetic experience,
when God sent him to deliver a very unwelcome message. Both readings seem to stress that prophets must rely entirely on God.
So too in our own lives, we sometimes find ourselves in the midst of tasks for which we feel completely unprepared. We can feel
overwhelmed or in over our heads. But if we believe that these are tasks to which God has called us and for which God has sent
us, then we ought also to believe that God has equipped us with what we need to accomplish them. Faith is the only provision
that we need. Of course, faith is not as easily attained as food or a sack or money. You can’t buy it in a store or borrow it from a
friend, but must receive it as a gift from God. We should have confidence, however, that, as the Letter to the Ephesians says, we
who have been chosen in Christ to exist for the praise of God’s glory have also been provided with what we need to fulfill that
calling: “ every spiritual blessing in the heavens.” This is given to us in our baptism and we can rely on it fully.
“Loving God, you call us and send us out to do your will. Help us to have confidence that you will provide us with what we need
to accomplish that will. Amen.”
Stewardship: Sharing our Time, Talent, and Treasure!
“He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick—no food, no sack, no money in their belts.”
Mark 6:8
How different we are from the Apostles who took nothing when they ventured out to serve God. Today we make our journey
through life more difficult because of all the material baggage that we drag along. Yet, the more we can let go of, the freer we
are to serve God with love and joy.
Our Sunday Offering: Sunday, June 14, 2015—$18,630.46
Sunday, June 22, 2014—$17,361.08
Electronic Giving
Some parishioners are now choosing to make their church donations electronically. This assures that their giving is automatic,
and comes to the church even if they are unable to attend due to illness, vacation, weather, or other reasons. If you would like to
join, simply log on to our parish website, www.sjrc.org, click the Parish Giving icon on the home page, and follow the directions.
Any questions, leave a message for Deacon Jim at the rectory. The Parish Giving site is also being prepared to accept donations
to support Catholic Education at Transfiguration Academy.
