March 26, 2012 Dear Prospective Sponsor, My name is Colin Squier, current Vice President of the James Madison University Triathlon Team. We are a well-known and respected multi-sport team that competes in Virginia and across the Mid-Atlantic region. Running strong for more than a decade, our team has grown from a small contingent of endurance freaks to a roster of more 58 committed student-athletes who train on a regular basis to compete in local, regional and national events Each year, we add 26new members to the team, eager to test themselves in swimming, biking and running. Our team has seen consistent success winning both collegiate team and age-group competitions. In last year’s college competitions, 14 of our teammates placed in the top three of their age divisions. As you may know, triathlon can be an expensive sport, with three sports in which to maintain equipment. As a team we hold fundraisers and have side jobs, but integral to our success has been the ongoing support of sponsors. I hope that you will consider becoming one of them. Enclosed in this sponsorship packet are a variety of sponsorship opportunities with commensurate levels of brand promotion and product-placement that our team would be proud to provide your company. We would appreciate your taking the time to review the packet and consider sponsoring the JMU Triathlon team. Thank you. Sincerely, Colin Squier Vice President JMU Triathlon JMU TRIATHLON TEAM SPONSORSHIP PACKET Overview For the 2011-2012 school year, the JMU Triathlon Team is comprised of 32 triathlon-tested and 26 novices for a roster of 58 student athletes. Last year, we introduced 26 new students to the sport of triathlon with incredible results. So, as you can see, our club team continues to grow, giving your company the opportunity to be seen new potential customers. Community Service and Fundraising Training and competing are only part of what we do. JMU Triathlon believes in being an active member of the community. Last year, we performed more than 250 hours of community service for causes ranging from Relay for Life to Cystic Fibrosis in addition; we have also raised $1,600 to support our efforts. As a result of both of these, the JMU Triathlon Team was awarded the 2010 Sport Club of the Year by the university, a prestigious distinction earned due to our relentless pursuit of excellence, our above-and-beyond community service performance, and record-setting fundraising. Presence and Visibility Our team is well known throughout the JMU community both for our reputation as the hardest working athletes on campus, and for our tremendous school pride. We are a major presence at most big events in the Virginia triathlon scene, as we show up to each race with dozens of athletes, big purple tents, and a support team with enough spirit to go around for the entire competition. We often win the “Team Spirit Award” as a result of our intense cheering and support for other racers. The Challenges We Face The sport of triathlon is fun and rewarding; however as you may know competing in a sport that is actually three sports (swimming, biking, running) can be very expensive. To the average college student who must balance, tuition, books, rent, and more, maintaining a competitive edge in triathlon can be a difficult task. Our team is proud to introduce many new athletes to the sport each semester, and we do our best support new athletes but the cost of entering the sport can be a deterrent. It is our hope that you will find it beneficial to help support our dedicated team by becoming an official JMU Triathlon Sponsor. Becoming a Sponsor There are many ways for you to be recognized as an official supporter of our team. Aside from selecting a sponsorship package option (see below), which help the team function as whole, there are other specific challenges that our team members face that you could help with such as discounts to any triathlon gear you might be selling, or contributions to our team’s Equipment Fund. The Equipment Fund is a collection of triathlon related gear that our team started growing this year. It is our hope that by building up this collection we will be able to help new athletes participate in the sport by “renting” equipment from the team such as goggles, tire tubes, swim caps, helmets, water bottles, race belts, glide, toolboxes, etc. Sponsorship Package Options Sponsorship Packages logo on www.jmutri.com sponsors page with hyperlink Logo on www.jmutri.com sponsors page and home page Sponsored on our JMU Triathlon Facebook Page (Can post update on our page for all members to see) logo on teams sports towels logo on banner brought to competitions Logo on team TShirts Logo as car magnet to go on JMU vans transporting team to events Tri It Out 15% Discount or $50 Donation The Dry Run 25% Discount or $100 Donation The Sprint Tri 35% Discount or $200 Donation The Olympic Tri The Tin Man The Iron Man 50% off or $300 Donation $500 donation $1000 Donation X X X X X X X X X X X x x x x X X X X X X X X X X Clarification of Benefits Logo Placement - For Tri It Out sponsors, we need logos in a jpeg format.
