Today you join almost 125,000 fellow alumni across the globe, in the highest offices of business, government and society. The LSE alumni network is one to be proud of – people all over the world making tremendous contributions to the communities in which they work and live. Many hand down their experience and expertise to current and prospective students by volunteering, helping to create a great student experience. Another way of giving back is through philanthropic support of the LSE Annual Fund, which assists a range of projects across the School. There are many ways to get involved. Events range from class reunions, networking evenings and panel discussions to special receptions at the House of Lords. These events are not confined to campus and London; international alumni groups arrange events all over the world, many of which attract leading political, corporate and academic figures. Alumni also get exclusive access to advance tickets to many of the LSE Public Lectures – past speakers include Christine Lagarde, Bill Gates, His Holiness The Dalai Lama and Burmese democracy campaigner and Nobel Peace Prize winner Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Tickets for these events will be listed on the alumni events calendar online. To ensure that you don’t miss out on events for alumni in your area, please keep the alumni team up to date with your current contact details via your alumni online account (alumni.lse.ac.uk) 16 Services There are many benefits and services exclusive to alumni of the School. Alumni Mentoring Network LSE alumni all over the world provide an invaluable support service to one another through mentoring opportunities. Register as a mentee to build your network and expand your opportunities. Use the network to seek advice from LSE alumni, benefit from their insight and connections and learn more about the sectors or roles you are interested in. There are currently over 500 mentors spanning a wide range of professions who volunteer to share their experience and expertise. Email Forwarding The LSE alumni email address is a free forwarding service linked to your personal or professional email, available to all alumni who have signed up to the LSE Alumni online community. It allows you to maintain a permanent email forwarding address associated with LSE – especially useful to new and recent graduates completing job applications – and gives you an easy way to keep in touch with friends and colleagues following graduation and during your working life, without having to constantly update your contacts whenever your personal email address changes. 17 LSE Library Alumni enjoy free lifelong access to the LSE Library and its printed collections – on a reference basis or to borrow, free of charge. There are also internet-connected PCs allocated to alumni, providing access to certain online journals. What you need to do Sign up for your alumni library card in person at the Library, or by completing the online self-registration form at lse.ac.uk/library. If you have changed your name since graduating, please register with the details you used before your graduation. Alumni library cards need to be collected in person from the Library Membership desk. It is packed with news from campus and engaging and scholarly articles from the School’s academics and alumni. Once registered at LSE Alumni online, you can update your details to ensure you receive it in your preferred format. The easiest and most environmentally-friendly method is via an email alert to an electronic copy. Visit alumni.lse.ac.uk for more information. The current issue of LSE Connect is available to view online at lse.ac.uk/alumni/LSEConnect 21 Careers LSE Careers provides a range of professional services to help students and recent graduates plan with confidence for the future. You can currently access the LSE Careers Hub for two years after graduation. As with other services available to alumni, you will need to have registered for a public account with the School. What’s a public account? Your network account, which you were given as a student, expires in the December of your year of graduation. LSE public accounts enable the School to provide secure, personalised access to online resources for alumni, undergraduate and graduate applicants. To register, go to lse.ac.uk/lseforyou with your network account details to register for a public account. Once complete, you can begin to use the excellent range of services offered through the LSE Careers Hub at careers.lse.ac.uk 24 Transcripts and Certificates Transcripts Transcript requests are handled by the Student Services Centre - for full details of how to get yours, please see lse.ac.uk/transcripts If you graduated in or after 2010 you can now access your transcripts electronically via Digitary. Alumni who graduated prior to 2010 should visit lse.ac.uk/transcripts for instructions. All queries regarding transcripts should be directed to Registry Services on [email protected]. Degree Certificates Degree and diploma certificates are issued either by the Student Services Centre or by the University of London.
