MISSION STATEMENT
By encouraging boundless expression, the University Program Board strives to enhance
the overall JMU experience by providing a variety of creative, educational and
entertaining programs that appeal to diverse audiences. We actively seek and encourage
input while dedicating and challenging ourselves to incorporate the needs and desires of
the JMU community.
COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS
Center Stage
Center Stage searches for big name national acts for concerts that will interest the JMU
community. This committee participates in researching, planning and promoting one to
two large-scale concerts a semester.
Film
Film chooses the movies to bring to JMU’s Grafton-Stovall Theater. This committee
assists in the maintenance and workings of the theater, promoting the weekly movie
series, and planning other film related events on campus. This committee also is
responsible for the box office and lobby during movie showings several times a week.
Special Events
Special Events is responsible for bringing cultural and entertainment programs to
campus. This committee seeks to bring awareness and educational programs and
entertainment events that might include novelty acts, comedy, and more.
Spirit & Traditions
Spirit & Traditions brings programming series events such as Funny Freakin’ Fridays
and Late Night Breakfast. This committee also seeks ways to assist in campus traditions
such as Homecoming, Parents Weekend, and more.
Spotlight Sounds
Spotlight Sounds is responsible for programming small-venue musical acts and seeking
out student musicians to showcase their talent to the student body. This committee
brings regional music as well as up-and-coming national touring acts to campus.
P.I.T. CREW
P.I.T. Crew (programmers in training) offers students the opportunity to learn all facets
of the University Program Board. During the training, students experience general body
meetings, attend committee meetings, contribute to marketing efforts, assist in staffing
events, and upon completion, join a committee.
