Annual Report 2011-2012 Prepared by: Carrie Grogan, Coordinator Courtney Tubbs, Executive Assistant Annual Report 2011-2012 MISSION STATEMENT By encouraging boundless expression, the University Program Board strives to enhance the overall JMU experience by providing a variety of creative, educational and entertaining programs that appeal to diverse audiences. We actively seek and encourage input while dedicating and challenging ourselves to incorporate the needs and desires of the JMU community. COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS Center Stage Center Stage searches for big name national acts for concerts that will interest the JMU community. This committee participates in researching, planning and promoting one to two large-scale concerts a semester. Film Film chooses the movies to bring to JMU’s Grafton-Stovall Theater. This committee assists in the maintenance and workings of the theater, promoting the weekly movie series, and planning other film related events on campus. This committee also is responsible for the box office and lobby during movie showings several times a week. Special Events Special Events is responsible for bringing cultural and entertainment programs to campus. This committee seeks to bring awareness and educational programs and entertainment events that might include novelty acts, comedy, and more. Spirit & Traditions Spirit & Traditions brings programming series events such as Funny Freakin’ Fridays and Late Night Breakfast. This committee also seeks ways to assist in campus traditions such as Homecoming, Parents Weekend, and more. Spotlight Sounds Spotlight Sounds is responsible for programming small-venue musical acts and seeking out student musicians to showcase their talent to the student body. This committee brings regional music as well as up-and-coming national touring acts to campus. P.I.T. CREW P.I.T. Crew (programmers in training) offers students the opportunity to learn all facets of the University Program Board. Luke Blum and Carrie Grogan presented an education session on Embracing External Members. Programming Board Jam (PBJ) Both committee chairs and members of the executive council attended this conference for schools from the Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey region at Catholic University of America.
