Na Fianna Nuacht 110316
Na Fianna Nuacht Senior Football – 1st Home game of 2016 Senior football league action returns to Mobhi Rd this Sunday at 10.30, when we face Cuala. Our first outing was not an auspicious one, being beaten by Crokes 2–11 to 2–7. The team struggled badly in the first half to go into the break at 1-9 to 0-2 down but the second half performance was full of all the good qualities evident in this squad. Hopefully, we’ll continue where we left off in this outing against Cuala. Last year’s fixture against Cuala saw us score 8 goals which has not been done by a Senior team before in competitive action so Cuala will be coming over to Mobhi Rd looking to restore pride after being on the receiving end of that record and a victory over Ballymun in Pair Ciceam in the first round shows that they mean business in this year’s competition. With the return of Adzer Caffrey and Davy Quinn, who have both been out with long-term injuries, to the squad, Pillar will have some selection issues to contend with for this week’s game. With a bit of support from a home crowd, hopefully we can get a win recorded and target making the League playoffs for a third year running. Pitches Update All pitches are ON and playable at time of publication. Na Fianna Nuacht 11ú Márta 2016 1 Na Fianna Nuacht Weekend Fixtures All five adult football teams play in league on Sunday. They beat Kildare on a scoreline of 21-14, 21-13. The first game was close up to 9 all and then the Dubs took control, but the second game started well for Kildare and they were 8 points to 1 up before Egin and Frank got their act together leveling at 8 all and going on to take control and finish strongly. Na Fianna Nuacht 11ú Márta 2016 7 Na Fianna Nuacht Christy Donnelly and St Brigids Ciaran Mc Callum are out this Saturday in Kildare against Wexford opposition in the Leinster over 40 Doubles Final. Meadhbh Ni Dhalaigh along with Lisa Mc Kenna are also in action this Saturday against Kilkenny in the Ladies Junior Doubles Leinster championship. He has also just won his third Leinster singles title last week. Ned is chasing a three in a row All Irelands in singles and doubles so best of luck Ned. Egin Jensen won a cracker of an All Ireland over 50A singles semi final against Cork on a scoreline of 21-13,16-21,21-20. The game lasted the guts of two hours and was on a knifeedge until the end. Egin led 17-13 in the third and looked home and dry and in an instant he was down 19-17 and had to dig deep. There was no less than nine changes of serve without a single score by either player. Egin then levelled at 19 all and was taken out of serve and was 20-19. A further three hands went without a mark for either player until Egin pulled out two great shots under pressure to win 21-20. Bhain na cailiní an taitneamh as an lá, go raibh maith agaibh Caisleán Cnuacha as é a eagrú. Collinstown New Pitch Facilities, Grounds and other committees are working hard to plan to complete the tasks needed to have our new pitch open by June Bank Holiday weekend. Wet and cold weather had kept the area soft; it needs a good solid block of time for drying, growth and cutting. Further bad weather will potentially push the timelines further out. We aim to put up goals, ball catching needs and complete related works there during April and May. Facilities have been informed by Grounds committee and other members involved in fixtures that this new pitch is CLOSED to any type of match play or training activity until work is completed and pitch is formally opened. This includes kicking/ pucking around and any type of warm up drills before matches and training in addition to any formal or informal training sessions. This applies also to underage teams arriving to play blitzes and matches. This new pitch will be a major additional resource to us. Bear with it until it is fully and properly prepared. That will yield up a great benefit for all of us. Na Fianna Nuacht 11ú Márta 2016 10 Na Fianna Nuacht Fixtures Committee Reminder The Club’s Fixtures Committee have asked that all team mentors should please note the following points in relation to fixtures setting and Club pitches. 1. The Na Fianna Fixtures Committee deals on a weekly basis with the Dublin GAA Board which regulates all male football and hurling fixtures, both adult and juvenile. It also deals with the Dublin Camogie Board and the Dublin Ladies Football Board which respectively regulate the scheduling of camogie and ladies’ football fixtures, both adult and juvenile. None of these three boards needs to take into account the priorities of either of the other two boards in scheduling their fixtures. 2. CLG Na Fianna has a limited number of pitches on which to schedule the matches which are assigned to it by the Dublin GAA Board, the Dublin Camogie Board and the Dublin Ladies’ Football Board. Therefore the Fixtures’ Committee of Na Fianna has the final say in determining at which venue and at what time matches involving Na Fianna’s teams, both adult and juvenile will be played. 3. The Fixtures’ Committee has the full support of the club’s Executive Committee in determining the club’s fixtures. 4. The Fixtures’ Committee invariably keeps as close to the fixtures issued by the different boards as circumstances permit. However it is not possible to accommodate every match at the venue and throw-in time stipulated due to clashes. It is therefore imperative that mentors check the club website www.clgnafianna.ie as this is where the definitive throw-in times and pitch allocations are to be found. 5. Information about home pitch playability can be found on the web site on the Friday evening of the weekend. 6. If the opposition’s pitch is unplayable we are NOT in a position to facilitate the game on our pitches, it will be refixed by the board at a later date. Na Fianna struggles to hosts its scheduled home fixtures on a weekly basis so the club does not have the capacity to host cancelled away matches. 7. When looking to change the time or date of a game mentors should check the web to see that it does not impact on other games already set on the club website. 8. When making a booking request mentors should check the training schedule and club website to see if there a prior booking before making a request. Na Fianna Nuacht 11ú Márta 2016 11 Na Fianna Nuacht 9. Only requests sent to the fixtures email address will be considered: [email protected]. No requests by text or phone please. 10. If the mentors do not get a reply within 48 hours of sending an email to the Fixtures’ Committee they should check the web to see if their request is up on the club website. If not please re-send the request. 11. With all the leagues back in full swing and the limited number of pitches available to us, please bear this in mind when looking to play a challenge that our pitches are in use for official games (we cater for over 100 teams) and team training on the pitches (when evenings lengthen) we recommend you try and arrange the challenges away. Minor Ladies Football- Management Opportunities As a club, we are very fortunate to have a group of over 40 enthusiastic minor players who have enormous potential to succeed and progress to our senior teams over the next few years. Our training schedule resumed in January with a selection of ‘Dads’ working primarily on fitness and skills, on an interim basis. The D1 & D4 league programmes are reasonably short this year while the Championship campaign will commence towards the end of August. We are looking for a Manager/ Coach and Female Liaison Officer, essentially ‘non-parent’ to help our young daughters advance to the next level, develop as players and ultimately realise their true potential, in a competitive but enjoyable environment. You may be an experienced manager, with club or inter-county experience or who has been involved with Na Fianna teams in the past. Alternatively you may be a current player or someone who has recently retired and would genuinely enjoy giving something back to our club. If our vision is of interest to you, please feel free to have a chat with Paul Nolan (087 289 3135). Na Fianna Nuacht 11ú Márta 2016 12 Na Fianna Nuacht Na Fianna’s Mens’ Shed Pictured during a break in work recently are some of the Na Fianna facilities group who were busy assembling sheds in Collinstown. TJ Drops In Kilkenny hurler TJ Reid visited Na Fianna during the week and was welcomed by Ann Ryan (both pictured above). What TJ didn’t know at the time this photo was being taken was that he was just about to be caught for a Club lotto ticket. Fair play Ann.
