Design Bridge Dogs Bollocks Student Awards 2015 Brief
Student Awards 2015 History We started our own internal awards way back in the 90’s as a bit of fun called ‘The Dogs Bollocks’. As Design Bridge blossomed with offices in Amsterdam and Singapore it was time to take the awards more seriously, to judge the quality of the work and to create a benchmark, constantly encouraging self improvement. We created a judging system that allowed the truly big ideas to be recognised. The DB Student Awards runs in parallel with our internal awards and will be judged by our Creative Directors and guest judge. This is your chance to enter and win the opportunity of a paid placement in our studio, where you will get involved in the diverse work we do across; 2D design, 3D design, crafting, visualisation and motion graphics. Many of our designers were offered a position through this award and are now working and developing their careers with us here at Design Bridge. We have employed 8 people in the last 3 years alone directly from this competition. The brief: Redesign a famous brand We want you to choose a famous brand and redesign it in a breakthrough way. Design projects sometimes follow established category norms, but often the best work breaks these rules. At Design Bridge, we approach all our work with originality, craft and story-telling at the heart of everything we do. ‘Breakthrough’ is one of the judging criteria for all of the design work produced at Design Bridge. How can “spreadable” become desirable? How does 2D and 3D inspire and work with each other? Could paint be mixed like cocktails? Can a pack convey functionality and the emotional side of the brand? Can a pack or product tell you how to use it even in the dark? What is the sensorial experience of a brand? These are questions we ask ourselves at Design Bridge about everything we work on. Everything is up for grabs: shape (both pack and product), textures, materials, the ritual, the brand experience... But what we are really looking for is a big idea. Judging Entries will be judged by our Creative Directors and guest judge using the following criteria: · Simple but bold · Warm and engaging · Brilliantly executed and crafted · Enduring and memorable · Breakthrough in category Deliverables Choose two or more of the following: Identity Brochure Advertising Pack or Product Design Digital Design Point of Sale e.g Logo, stationery, clothing, livery Magazine, catalogue Adshel, 47 sheet, ambient media, floor vinyl Box, tin, bottle, label, wrap, serveware, dispenser Website, ident, iPhone app, video, installation In-store display unit, on-shelf, glorifiers, pop-up event - Entries to be supplied as maximum of 3 x A3 mounted prints - One of these boards must show your design journey and thinking in sketches - An optional moodboard showing colours, materials and finishes to support your designs - Please use the entry templates provided and stick one to the back of each board - Mock-ups (physical or digital) or additional material you feel support the ideas are also accepted but are unable to be returned.
