not accept government funding in order to offer an integrated spiritual program. Our program
would not be possible without the 100+ volunteer supporters who work closely with the women

How Are We Doing?
SVdP’s Catherine’s Center is
a Restorative Justice program
of the Society of St. Vincent
de Paul of San Mateo County
designed to help women
leaving incarceration to change
their lives by developing new
behaviors, reconnecting with
children and family, and
preparing for a productive life
in society through education
and training. As of June 1,
2009 we have welcomed 54
women to our home.
Of the women who have experienced SVdP’s Catherine’s Center:
• 49 graduated from, attended, or are attending an intensive addiction recovery program
• 26 are mothers or grandmothers of minor children
• 18 are attending or have completed college courses or training programs during their stay
at SVdP’s Catherine’s Center.
Alumnae Highlights
• Leyla is a full time intern at Genentech and part-time weekend
relief staff at SVdP’s Catherine’s Center
• Laverne is the full time Resident Liaison at SVdP’s Catherine’s Center
• Paulette, a registered nurse, is employed full time at a local hospital
• Vickie is a full time Electrician Apprentice in San Francisco and part-time
weekend relief staff at SVdP’s Catherine’s Center
• Lillian is employed full time at one of St. Vincent de Paul’s four thrift
stores in San Mateo County

Dear Friends,
In the past, in putting together our Annual Report, With Gratitude,
our letter to you shared much growth: an additional building for
our home, an increase in number of women we could accept at any
one time, the development of a more completely holistic program,
and the wonderful growth of our volunteer cadre.
We also see that our women’s inner growth makes it possible for
many of them to be reunited with their families and children,
to develop not only skills for sustainable employment but attitudes
and inner gifts that make for a quality employee. Our women’s
spiritual growth enables them to realize their own inner beauty
