The Skinner’s World Cup Retriever Event is now in its fifteenth year and we
are proud to sponsor what is recognised as the most prestigious gundog

Competing members of the top three teams will each receive a rosette,
certificate and a 15kg bag of Skinner’s food.
Skinner’s will present all members of each competing team with an engraved
crystal glass whisky tumbler as a memento of the event.

WELCOME
The Skinner’s World Cup Retriever Event is a team event for Retrievers only.
Each team consists of four dogs and their handlers, representing their respective
countries to compete for the coveted title. As you can imagine, the standard
required to represent your country is very high, and is a great honour for those
involved.
The various Working Tests have been designed to test the dogs on their game
finding ability and the speed and effectiveness of the retrieves they make.
Judges will be looking for quick pick ups and fast returns, natural nose and
marking ability, quietness in handling, control, drive and style. We have five
highly respected judges who have all judged at an international level and who
have competed themselves in Tests, Trials and Championships so they too
know exactly what is expected both from the dogs and their handlers.
Although you will hear shots being fired, none of the Tests involve shooting
live game. Work is done with “dummies” (green canvas weights) and the
pistol shots are only used to recreate a typical shooting day.
Englefield Estate offers the perfect combination of cover with open meadows,
woodland, lakes and streams making an ideal setting for a series of challenging
working tests. We are very grateful to Mr Richard Benyon and his wife, Zoe for
kindly allowing us to bring our Event to their beautiful Estate here in Berkshire.
Last year’s winners were the team from England making it a record seven
wins in the history of the Event. Top Dog was FT Ch Saxaphone Brown Ale
of Lincswolds handled by Richard King from England. But who will be taking
home the trophies this year? With a total of fifteen teams competing for the
trophies it’s sure to be another great competition.
We wish all competitors the very best of luck and hope that those who join us to
watch and support this year’s Event have a very enjoyable time. Fingers crossed,
as always, for a fine and dry weekend.

JUDGES
Gilly won a Novice Trial with her first Labrador who was
bought as a pet over twenty years ago. She has since won with
many more and has made up two Field Trial Champions.
She has a passion for breeding, training, working and competing
with her Labradors (and has also owned Golden Retrievers and
a Flatcoated Retriever) and spends much of spring and summer
every year teaching others. She is an ‘A’ panel Kennel Club
Retriever judge and has taught and judged widely at home and
abroad. More recently she has provided the commentary for the
International Retrievers Competition at the CLA Game Fair so
those of you who don’t know her may recognise her voice!
She is Chairman of the South Eastern Gundog Society and helps
her husband run a successful private shoot at home.
Gilly is delighted and honoured to have been invited to judge
this year’s Skinner’s World Cup and is looking forward to
watching “the best of the best”. She would like to wish all
those competing “Good Luck”.

Ian is well known for his world famous “Rytex Kennels” which he founded
in the early 1990’s with his wife, Wendy. He was only 13 when he won his
first spaniel trial and by 15 he had won an open qualifier. A sign of things
to come as to date he has made up 100 Field Trial Champions across three
breeds (Springer Spaniels, Cocker Spaniels and Labrador Retrievers), has
won the UK Cocker Spaniel Championship 4 times and the English
Springer Spaniel Championship 6 times.

Dick is an ‘A’ panel Kennel Club judge and has had dogs for 25 years.
His first dog was a fishing companion but Dick got the bug for working
with dogs after going to a working test in 1990. This lead him on to
competing in tests and trials. He first qualified for the 1997 IGL
Retreiver Championship and in 2003 he came 3rd and Top Scottish Dog
with FTCh Anson Anne of Denbank. He then qualified the same dog for
four consecutive years 2006-2009 and qualified two dogs for the 2009
IGL Retriever Championship.

JUDGES
Thomas Plamboeck
(Denmark)
Thomas bought his first labrador 20 years ago. Since then
training, trialling and hunting with the dogs takes up most
of his time. Together with his wife, Iben, he owns Batmoors
Kennels in Denmark. Thomas has made up a Danish Field
Trial Champion and a Working Test Champion. Highlights for
him have been winning the Danish Field Trial Championship
in 2012 and 2014. Thomas has also represented Denmark at
this event four times when it was held at Highclere.
Thomas is a Panel ‘A’ judge in Denmark and takes great joy
in judging both at home and abroad. He travels to the UK to
train with his dogs several times each year.
Thomas says: “It really is a huge honour being asked to judge

gundog work.”
Alan’s first gundogs were German Shorthaired
Pointers which he shot over extensively and
with which he had some competitive success.
He has run dogs in all four sub groups.
Alan got his first Labrador in 1973 and began
competing in Retriever Trials in 1974. Since
then he has made up eleven Labradors to Field
Triap Champion, eight of these becoming
International Field Triap Champions. He has
won the IGL Retriever Championship, been
placed third three times and received several
other awards. He has won the Irish Retriever
Championship five times, been second six times
Alan Rountree
and third three times. His six Championship
(Ireland)
wins were achieved with six different dogs.
Alan has judged the IGL Retriever Championship three times and the IKC Retriever
Championship twice.
Alan has had many working test awards including winning the Game Fair and has represented
Ireland and Northern Ireland at numerous international competitions.
His affix, ‘Tasco’, is internationally known.
Alan is looking forward to judging this year’s Skinner’s World Cup.
