Inside Orpic Inside Orpic 4 Feature Orpic finalises FEED of Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (Orpic)has finalized a major milestone of its Liwa Plastics Industries Complex: the deliverable of the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) with details of costs and layouts of the future operations. The USD 3.6 billion project will enable Oman, for the first time, to produce polyethylene, a form of plastic that rates highest in terms of global demand and is used in many products that are part of our daily routine. Developed by Orpic, in partnership with Chicago Bridge and Iron Company (CB&I), the FEED is now ready to be submitted to the companies that were pre-qualified to participate in the Engineering. Operating in full speed and in line with its schedule, the project is composed by a 859KTA Steam Cracker, 880KTA Polymer Units, a Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) Extraction Unit and a 300km long NGL Pipeline from Fahud to Sohar. After LPIC, the plastic production in the Sultanate will increase by 1 million tons, giving Orpic a total of 1.4 million tons of polyethylene and polypropylene production by 2018. The Work Environment Projects is about creating a work environment that is efficient, attractive and cooperative by transforming the current work culture from closed cellular offices into an open office environment to improve productivity and increase collaboration between functions and interdepartmental personnel. The project will aim to reflect Orpic’s vision in the workplace, and to create an environment that we are all proud of. Why is Orpic undertaking a Work Environment Project? Orpic is in a continuous process of change. The organization is expanding and feels the need to become more efficient and effective in its operations. Improving collaboration and teamwork are key. The new office environ¬ment should support these changes. How is this project going to affect Orpic Employees? At the moment most Orpic buildings are a maze of small private offices. People are hidden behind closed doors and therefore heavily rely on sending emails to one another, rather than talking face-to-face. The aim is to create a new connected work culture that will enhance the employees working approach to achieve a common goal. What are the key responsibilities of the Work Environment Project? The main responsibility of Work Environment Project is to deliver unique projects that reflect Orpic’s vision, mission and values, by having an elegant work environment and unified buildings that create the feeling of one single office. What exciting projects does the Work Environment have planned for the future? Initial thoughts and ideas/concepts from the first phase have been collected, which will form the basis for the second phase, which consists of upgrading all other 100 Orpic buildings at three different locations (namely Sohar, MAF and Raysut) and those buildings will also have Orpic’s identity and concept. In addition to the site development projects/initiatives, the project includes the provision of additional car parking spaces, walkways, shaded pergolas and landscaping works. What motivates the Work Environment employees? As a Project Team, we’re motivated to be part of this prestigious project, which will create a unique work environment that reflects the Orpic Way, which is based on four organizational values. These values, which are ingrained in all aspects of Orpic’s organizational culture, will be reflected in the new work environment, which we hope will attract the best of experience and knowledge by creating an inspiring work culture, that will be more striking and fun to work in.
