Dear Colleagues,
With Eid Al Fitr upon us, I’d like to take this
opportunity to wish you all a blessed Eid and reflect
on the many achievements we have made over
the past six months.
2014 saw Orpic face several internal and external
challenges, however by all functions working
together, these challenges were overcome and
provided us with an opportunity to identify areas of
improvement. Because of this, I am confident that
by the end of this year we will reap the rewards of
our efforts.
I hope you enjoy this addition of Inside Orpic,
which features highlights from the Sohar Refineries
Improvement Project; the official groundbreaking
ceremony for the Muscat Sohar Products Pipeline
Project (MSPP); and Orpic’s accomplishment of key
projects highlighted as part of our Environmental
Improvement Plan.
I would like to extend my appreciation to our
employees across our operations and grow project
teams for their effort in working towards delivering
our vision.

MSPP Ground Breaking
Ceremony
Under the auspices of H.E. Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council
for Planning, and Chairman of Orpic Board of Directors, Orpic celebrated the ground-breaking
of its Muscat-Sohar Pipeline and Al Jifnain terminal Project (MSPP) for the transportation of oil
products, which shall connect refineries in Sohar and Mena al Fahal via a 290 km pipeline.
This project will be the first of its kind in the Sultanate and its value is estimated to be US$320
million. This project will enable Orpic to reduce its reliance on above-ground methods of
transportation for oil products.
Commenting on the ground-breaking, H.E. Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi Chairman of Orpic Board
of Directors said, “We are delighted to celebrate the ground-breaking of an important and
a vital project, which is needed to keep up with the requirements of development in the
Sultanate. This project will contribute to enhancing oil transportation infrastructure in the
Sultanate, to keep pace with the growing demand for fuel. We also hope that this project will
contribute to the improvement of environmental aspects and road safety.”
Orpic’s MSPP project is split into four sections: MAF-Jifnain Terminal: 40-km (10 inches), Jifnain
Terminal-Airport: 30-km (10 inches), Sohar-Jifnain Terminal: 220-km (18 inches) and Al Jifnain
truck loading terminal.
The project will constitute state-of-the-art control systems, with latest SCADA technology, leak
detection, and a telecommunications network. It will also be equipped with loading facilities
designed to cater to the loading of more than 500 trucks per day.

Orpic finalises FEED of Liwa
Plastics Industries Complex
(Orpic)has finalized a major milestone of its Liwa Plastics Industries Complex: the deliverable of
the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) with details of costs and layouts of the future operations.
The USD 3.6 billion project will enable Oman, for the first time, to produce polyethylene, a form of
plastic that rates highest in terms of global demand and is used in many products that are part
of our daily routine. Developed by Orpic, in partnership with Chicago Bridge and Iron Company
(CB&I), the FEED is now ready to be submitted to the companies that were pre-qualified to
participate in the Engineering.
Operating in full speed and in line with its schedule, the project is composed by a 859KTA Steam
Cracker, 880KTA Polymer Units, a Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) Extraction Unit and a 300km long NGL
Pipeline from Fahud to Sohar. After LPIC, the plastic production in the Sultanate will increase by 1
million tons, giving Orpic a total of 1.4 million tons of polyethylene and polypropylene production
by 2018. The main objective is to further increase the value that can be derived from Omani
crude oil and natural gas, and subsequently improve Orpic’s product mix and business model.

place to redesign all Orpic buildings on Orpic premises. The project, which is about creating a
more attractive, efficient and collaborative work environment, is aimed at improving comfort,
productivity and workplace culture.

scope includes renovation of the existing Admin Building, the construction of a new connection
building and the expansion and renovation of the existing Canteen to accommodate 1500 staff.

is scheduled to commence in January 2017, and consists of an upgrade to all other 100 Orpic

FAQs
What is the Work Environment Projects?
The Work Environment Projects is about creating a work environment that is efficient, attractive and cooperative
by transforming the current work culture from closed cellular offices into an open office environment to improve
productivity and increase collaboration between functions and interdepartmental personnel. The project will
aim to reflect Orpic’s vision in the workplace, and to create an environment that we are all proud of.
Why is Orpic undertaking a Work Environment Project?
Orpic is in a continuous process of change. The organization is expanding and feels the need to become
more efficient and effective in its operations. Improving collaboration and teamwork are key. The new office
environ¬ment should support these changes.
How is this project going to affect Orpic Employees?
At the moment most Orpic buildings are a maze of small private offices. People are hidden behind closed
doors and therefore heavily rely on sending emails to one another, rather than talking face-to-face. The aim
is to create a new connected work culture that will enhance the employees working approach to achieve a
common goal.
What are the key responsibilities of the Work Environment Project?
The main responsibility of Work Environment Project is to deliver unique projects that reflect Orpic’s vision, mission
and values, by having an elegant work environment and unified buildings that create the feeling of one single
office.
What exciting projects does the Work Environment have planned for the future?
Initial thoughts and ideas/concepts from the first phase have been collected, which will form the basis for the
second phase, which consists of upgrading all other 100 Orpic buildings at three different locations (namely
Sohar, MAF and Raysut) and those buildings will also have Orpic’s identity and concept. In addition to the site
development projects/initiatives, the project includes the provision of additional car parking spaces, walkways,
shaded pergolas and landscaping works.
What motivates the Work Environment employees?
As a Project Team, we’re motivated to be part of this prestigious project, which will create a unique work
environment that reflects the Orpic Way, which is based on four organizational values. These values, which are
ingrained in all aspects of Orpic’s organizational culture, will be reflected in the new work environment, which
we hope will attract the best of experience and knowledge by creating an inspiring work culture, that will be
more striking and fun to work in.
