SAYVILLE LIBRARY Happenings
SAYVILLE LIBRARY Happenings JANUARY – FEBRUARY 2014 VOL. XV, NO. 51 Sayville Library and Sayville Village Improvement Society Will Celebrate This Milestone Anniversary in 2014 The Women’s Village Improvement Society was organized in March 1914 (later renamed Sayville Village Improvement Society-SVIS) and one of their first orders of business was the forming of a public library committee. This Committee held fundraisers and collected books to meet their objective of “...a circulating library and reading room free for public use to the inhabitants of Sayville and adjacent villages” (from Sayville Library Constitution 1914). Visit the Library to see a timeline of Sayville Library history. Both organizations are planning fun, informative and educational events throughout the year, from teas to trolley rides through historic Sayville and West Sayville. The Library’s celebration plans include a Family Carnival, a silent movie with live piano player, a musical performance of the music of Shirley Temple and lots more! See page 2 for the start of our celebration with more to follow in the upcoming issues of Happenings!
