SAYVILLE LIBRARY
HAPPENINGS
Spring 2011 VOL. XV, No. 37

This Year’s Theme: Dogs
See page 2 for more details
This is the first of what we hope will become an annual event. It is open to residents
of all ages living in Sayville and West Sayville (the Sayville School District borders).
Selected books are now available at the library and in the schools.
&Celebrate the reading and sharing of books through discussions and programs
based on a common theme!
&Program sign-up will start in March for April/May events
&We encourage parents not only to read the adult book, but to read and discuss
the youth books as a family.
&Meet The World of Interiors American Editor and Dog House: A Love Story Author
Carol Prisant on Saturday, May 14 to discuss her book and her career as an
antiques dealer (sponsored by Friends of Sayville Library).
A MOST SUCCESSFUL LIBRARY CARD CAMPAIGN!
Thank you to Sayville School Superintendent Dr. Walter Schartner for helping us to make the January library card
campaign a great success! One hundred and sixty-five new applications were received, the fifth highest month since
opening at Greene Avenue and surpassing any month since 2002 at the old library. Children and teens accounted for 88
of the new cards issued, a record for this library! We hope all these new library members will find they “… can sit in our
library and yet be in all quarters of the earth.” John Lubbock 1834-1913, Biologist
and Politician. The winning classes in each school building that achieved 100%
library card membership are TBA.
