FROM THE CHILDREN’S ROOM Preference for attending the following programs will be given to children who reside in the Jericho School District and grandchildren of Jericho residents. When signing up for programs, please use your child’s Jericho library card or yellow preschool program registration card. Grandparents will need to show their Jericho Library card. Non-residents may sign up the day of the program as space allows. IMPORTANT NOTICE We ask all program registrants to confirm that they will be attending programs. We make reminder calls two days in advance. If we do not receive a return call we may ask another child on the wait list to take the spot. In this way, we are able to accommodate as many children as possible. fALL Storytimes Registration begins immediately. Sing ‘n Swing with Stories (Pre-K ages 2 to 5 years) Tuesdays at 10:30 AM November 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, December 13, 20 This is a Mommy & Me program of stories, songs, rhymes and fingerplays. Free play follows the program. Pajama Storytime (Ages 3 years to K) Thursdays at 7:00 PM November 3, 10, 17, December 1, 8, 15, 22 Children will enjoy stories, songs & see a short film. Caregivers must stay in the Children’s Room for this program. Science Fun & Facts Maker Buddies (Grades 1 to 4) Wednesdays at 4:30 PM November 2, 9 & 23 Join us for this three part program where you participate in hands-on STEAM projects. Balloon Science (Grades 2 to 5) Wednesday, November 9th at 7:00 PM Learn the science behind balloons then create a craft to take home. Whales in Winter presented by the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum (Grades 1 to 6) Wednesday, November 16th at 7:00 PM Learn about the wondrous world of whales and find out how they survive in freezing waters. Touch real whale bones, try a blubber experiment, see an Inuit snow knife carved from walrus tusk and then make your own wintry whale snowglobe. Snow & Crystal Workshop (Grades 2 to 5) Wednesday, December 7th at 7:00 PM Deep in winter there is no better time to learn about snow and crystals. Finish by making a craft of your own. Detective Science presented by Mad Science of Long Island (Grades 2 to 6) Wednesday, December 14th at 7:00 PM Become a detective as you learn how forensic science works to solve crimes. Create and analyze fingerprints and teeth impressions. Discover how written materials can be analyzed to help solve a crime. Put your observation skills to the test and find out if you would make a good witness! Take home a “Mad Science Personal Profile Kit” and continue to test your forensic science skills! Eureka! the History of Invention presented by The Museum of Interesting Things (Grades 2 to 6) Thursday, December 15th at 7:00 PM The Museum of Interesting Things will bring a traveling exhibit of antiques and inventions with demonstrations which will inspire innovation and creativity ~ learning from the past to invent a better future! Casey Carle’s Bubblemania (((Ages 4 and up) Tuesday, December 27th at 11:00 AM This extremely unique program fuses high energy entertainment, highly crafted showmanship and artistic achievement. The show is loaded with comedy and improvisation and, of course, bubbles. Be careful that you don’t get caught inside one of his fogfilled bubbles but, if you do, you may never want to come out. Improv 4 Kids (Grades K and up) Thursday, December 29th at 11:00 AM This comedy show is a professional theater program dedicated to educating and entertaining young audiences. The performers present a series of original characters, stories, skits, songs and dances based on suggestions from the audience. This not-to-be missed show features plenty of audience participation and everyone who attends will be treated to lots of fun and laughter. just for fun Music and Movement Dig Into Duplo Playtime Songs for Baby’s Day (Ages 18 months to 5 years) Friday, November 11th at 10:30 AM Friday, December 2nd at 10:30 AM Help your child create their own masterpiece with Duplo blocks. Acrylic Paints on Canvas Learn the basic skills of this fun rope skipping exercise called Double Dutch where two ropes are turned and a third person jumps within. 14 (Grades 2 to 6) Thursday, December 22nd at 7:00 PM Paint a masterpiece as you learn various techniques including mixing colors, composition design and more. Dress for a mess! Children’s Picture Book Author to Speak at the Jericho Jericho kindergartners from the Cantiague, Jackson and Seaman Schools will hear noted author, Tad Hills, speak at the Library on Tuesday, December 6th. Tad Hills’ books featuring irresistible characters such as Duck, Goose and Rocket will be familiar to many of the children. His books have appeared on the NY Times Bestsellers list where Mr. Hills has established himself as a master of books teaching early concepts. The PTAs from the elementary schools have arranged a reception following Mr. Hills’ presentation. This wonderful program, intended to inspire children to want to read and write, is made possible through the coordinated efforts of the principals, teachers and parents of the Jericho kindergartners and the Jericho Public Library.
