This summer let’s get fit and in shape together! You can participate in a variety of energizing and engaging programs, and get positive results!
Visit the library not only to read books, but also to meet local active community members, make your own jump rope or hula hoop, learn
how you can be improve your well being while having fun and meeting new friends. Come join in and help make this a healthy and happy

Prereader Club:
You may pick up a reading record
to check off the number of
books read to you. Each time you
visit the library you will receive
stickers for your record and can
enter your name into a drawing
for a bag of books held at the
end of July.
Learn together at the Library!
All events are FREE and require advance registration at the
library hosting the event. When registering use the grade the
child will be attending in the fall. Please inform in advance if any
special accommodations are needed to attend events. First day
of registration is limited to Jericho and Underhill families. Sorry,
no phone sign ups on that day. After Registration Day Call, email,
or stop by to sign up!
Event Registration
All current middle and high school students will begin registering
on Wednesday, June 15th. Registration for all others will
be held at DRML during Movie night on Friday, June 17th
at 6:30-8:30 pm. Come watch Zootopia! (PG-13, 108 min.)
From the largest elephant to the smallest shrew, Zootopia is
a mammal metropolis where various animals live and thrive.
Popcorn provided!
Reader Club:
You may pick up an On Your Mark,
Get Set...READ! reading record for
the books that you read during the
summer program. Bring this record
each time you visit the library and
we will stamp it and enter your
name in a drawing for a prize
donated by the Merchants Bank and
the EDGE. Drawing will be held at
the end of July.
Teen Reader Club:
(12+ by July 31) Every time you
attend a program, volunteer, or
write up and submit a paragraph
about a book you read you may
enter a drawing for a $25 gift card
to Kohls. A winner will be selected
at the end of August.
Note: Jericho Town Library registration will be held online.
Grand Opening Event: Mike and the Big Blue Trunk
Mon June 20, 10:00-12:00 pm / all ages / Deborah Rawson Memorial Library
Come and enjoy spirited fun! Mike will arrive with his trunk packed with a bunch of big
insane interACTIVE games. All ages welcome. Please call to register. This event is being cosponsored by the Friends of DRML and the Jericho Town Library. In the event of rain the
event will be held in the Gymnasium at BRMS.
Jericho Food Shelf
Taking STEPS to help eliminate hunger! Help keep our community healthy and strong.
Please bring in canned goods and non-perishables; to donate to the Good Shepherd
food shelf in August! Our goal is to collect 100 goods! Check out the Big footometer to
see how close we are to our goal! Note- baby food is not a preferred item, but canned
fruit, tuna and peanut butter are very popular! Make sure to visit the circulation desk to
fill out a foot (1 per day) and add it to our giant foot.

READ 1,000 BOOKS BEFORE
KINDERGARTEN! A new Library program
that encourages all Jerocho/Underhill families
and caregivers to read 1,000 books with
their young children before they enter
kindergarten. Studies have shown that
families who start reading aloud to their
children at birth help to strengthen their
language skills and build their vocabulary –
two important tools for beginning to learn to
read when they enter kindergarten. Register
at the circulation desk for more information,
and pick up a reading log with stickers.
Bedtime Math Summer of Numbers
Grades preK-5
Research shows Bedtime Math improves
children’s math skills! Pick up a flyer and
chart. Every time your child solves a math
problem, they add another star to their
chart.

Come hear stories and enjoy specific
weeks when special visitors join Thad
for some stories and FUN! Children’s
emerging language and literacy skills will be
encouraged as we enjoy fingerplays, songs,
stories, a project and snack. Recommended
for preK-grade 2. No registration needed. Fill
out a form in the Children’s area to join our
StoryHour email list.
BabyTime
June 14, 25, July 12, 30, and Aug.16, 27,
10:30-11:00 am / Birth - 18 months
Join Thad as he leads the group with board
books, lap rhymes and songs for babies 18
months and younger. A great time for parents
and childcare providers to connect, chat,
and share ideas. Older siblings welcome. No
registration required. Fill out a form in the
Children’s area to join our BabyTime email
list.
Explorer’s Back Pack
All Ages
Bring a snack or picnic lunch to enjoy with
a themed back pack you can check out for
an outing. Each of the 3 themed backpacks
Bugs, Birds, and Gardens can be checked
out for the day. Backpacks include a blanket,
binoculars, Mills Riverside Park map, journal,
pencil and sharpener, and items specific to
each pack’s theme: bird ID book, bugbook
ID book, flower ID book, hand lens, and a
variety of picture books exploring the joys of
bugs, birds and gardens.

way for children, and adults, to enjoy
reading and the outdoors at the same time.

H. Very Merry Theatre
A. Carman and the Cosmos
Tues. June 21, 10:00-11:00 am /
Grades preK-4
Join Educator JoAnn Nichols from the
Humane Society of Chittenden County.
Children will meet Carman, a three-toed box
turtle. They will learn about turtles and their
habitat. Each participant will plant seeds in
their own paper crafted flower pot.
B. Teen Book Lovers
Tues. June 21, 28; July 5, 12, 19,
5:30-7:00 pm / Grades 5-8
Summer Book Group for teen readers who
love the wit, wisdom and mystery of a good
story cleverly told. Featuring books and
games determined by the group. Read at
home then meet at the library for dramatic
reenactments and other creative projects,
including food!
C. GMUke Hang Out -
The Mighty Uke Movie
Wed June 22, 7:00-8:30 pm / Ages 10+
Green Mountain Ukulele Hangout – Come
in to strum and sing along with other ukeenthusists while watching the movie, The
Mighty Uke! There will be a limited number
of ukuleles to use for the night, so bring your
own if you have one. Give us a call to let us
know you’ll be coming.
D. Backpack Theater
Fri June 24, 10:00 -11:00 am / All Ages
The Traveling Backpack Theater will perform
“Beauty and the Beast.” Charles Poisson
and his family move to the country where
he finds a beautiful castle. The owner is a
beast who demands that either Charles or
one of his daughters will have to live with
him forever! Children and their families
will be involved in this play to promote
a true literacy experience. The show will
be performed at the UID School. No
registration is necessary. Feel free to bring a
blanket or chair for the performance!
E. Legos in Motion

Build a vehicle and then watch it cruise on
the floor or a zipline! Your creation will be
displayed and remain at the library! Note:
We’ll supply lots of Legos so no need to
bring your own.
F. MOVE-ing & Grooving

Join Elise Doner, Busy Feet School of Dance
teacher for a professional program that
will use interACTIVE musical movements
including hula-hoops, ribbon wands and
scarves. The children will have lots of fun
while participating in healthy exercises!
G. Inspya Teen Yoga

Grades 5-12
Jean Campbell will inspire the teen zen in
you at this yoga activity that enhances your
well-being. If you have your own yoga mat
please bring it with you.

Join us in our own backyard for the Very
Merry Theatre Wagon Tour musical! “Alice in
Wonderland.” Learn the fantasy adventures
Alice experiences after falling through a
rabbit hole in this timeless Very Merry
musical adaptation. Bring a chair or blanket
and a bite to eat. This year the performance
will be held in the Pavilion at Mills Riverside
Park. In the event of rain the performance
will be held in the Underhill ID multipurpose room.
I. Poetry Playtime!

Join Rosa Castellano for an opportunity to
interact with poetry though reading, writing,
drawing, memorizing and playing with
poems. We’ll share kid-friendly poems and
have a snack so bring a favorite poem to
share! What a simple and enjoyable way to
expose your children to the experience and
mechanics of poetry! Family and friends are
invited on Saturday, August 6th @ 10:30 as
young poets read and share their works!
J. Read to Jackson the Dog
Thurs June 30 or Tues July 12, 2:00-3:00 pm
(15 min sessions) / Grades preK-3
Practice reading aloud to become an active
reader! Jackson will love to hear you read
to him. Jack is a certified Therapy Dog of
Vermont. Make sure to bring your favorite
book(s) to share with him.
K. Friday Teen Night Magic: The Gathering

The Glory, Knowledge and Conquest is
yours! Grab your deck and a friend and
head on over to DRML for Magic: The
Gathering!
L. Fire and Rescue Heroes!
Tues July 5, 10:00-11:00 am /
Grades preK-2
Come learn about fire prevention!
Volunteers from the Underhill-Jericho
Fire Department will show children how
firefighters look dressed in their gear when
they have to enter a home in an emergency.
At the end of the program children can
check out a real fire engine and rescue
vehicle (unless it is in route responding to an
emergency). Don’t forget your camera! All
participants must be chaperoned.
M. Hula Hoop Mini Camp
Tues July 5, 3-5:00 pm July 6-8, 3-4:30 pm /
Grades 5-8
Design and make your own hula hoop on
the first day with Sydney. Then return the
next 3 days to move to the groove and learn
some hula tricks.
N. Abenaki Games
Thurs July 7, 1:00-2:00 pm / preK-3
Join Sarah Stein and learn some traditional
games played by the Abenakis. Find out
how these Vermont natives used their
environment to create games to play and
enjoy life.
O. PUKA Music!
Fri July 8, 10:30-11:30 am / Grades preK-K
Come move with Peter as he inspires and
engages you with his guitar music! He allows
the children endless opportunities to choose
the direction of the fun while using musical
games, original songs and new versions of
traditional songs. This program is sponsored
by the Friends of DRML.
P. Teen Beginner Ballroom
Dancing
V. Frisbee/Disc Golf
Sat July 9, 7:00-9:00 pm / Grades 7-12
Teens come learn the basics of ballroom
dancing to contemporary music. A couple
young ballroom veterans will teach you
the Swing, Foxtrot, Waltz and Boxstep.
Refreshments will be served! Bring a friend
to make for a swinging night!
Fri July 22, 9:30-10:30 am / Grades 1-4
The object of frisbee/disc golf is to traverse
a course from beginning to end in the
fewest number of throws of the disc. It’s a
fun way to improve hand-eye coordination,
balance and throwing skills while keeping
active. We’ll plan on an outdoor round of 9
to 18 “holes” and then play some other fun
games. Discs will be provided.

Children who will be entering kindergarten
this fall and their parents are invited to
attend a special story time. While the
children are enjoying school stories, science
activities and meeting an older child from
their new school parents will have the
opportunity to share experiences with
Building Bright Futures coordinator, Heather
Lebeis. Separate story times will be held for
students attending each elementary school.

Come play in the dirt wth Colleen Korniak
from Jericho Town Library in this handson kid’s gardening workshop! Through the
simple activity of making seed bombs, we
learn about the importance of spreading
native plants, composting, and how to
protect native pollinators.
T. Teen GMUke Hang Out
Fri July 15, 6:30-8:00 pm / Grades 6+
Green Mountain TEEN Ukulele Hangout –
UKULELE! It’s fun–it’s easy–it’s cheap–and
it’s portable. Learn just 3 or 4 easy chords
and you can sing hundreds of rock, pop, folk,
country, disco, heavy metal songs, too! There
will be a limited number of ukuleles to use
for the night but bring your own if you have
one. Ages: 6th grade and up. Give us a call to
let us know you’ll be coming.
U. Motorized Vehicle TinkerTime
Tues. July 19, 2:30-4:00 pm /
Grades 4+ (K-3 with adult)
Create your own vehicle with a motor and
battery using a wide variety of parts.

Green Mountain BBQ-Ukulele Hangout –
UKULELE! It’s fun–it’s easy–it’s cheap–and it’s

to eat, talk and play the Ukulele together.

BB. Crazy 8’s Math Club
Thurs Aug 25, Sept 1, 8, 15, 29, Oct 6, 13,
20 3:00-4:00 / Grades 3-5
Crazy 8s is a recreational after-school math
club that helps kids enjoy the math behind
their favorite activities. It’s math gone wild,
nothing like your usual math club! Kids build
glow-in-the-dark structures, crack secret
spy codes and play games like Toilet Paper
Olympics. This is an 8 week program (Crazy
8’s!)
X. DCF (Dorthy’s List) Party
Tues July 26, 5:30-7:00 pm / Grades 4-8
Learn about the Dorothy Canfield Fisher
books chosen for 2016-2017. Fall dates will
be chosen for future ongoing sessions. Pizza
will be served. Note: The DCF list is now
also known as “Dorothy’s List”.
Y. Teen Motion Picture Night
Fri July 29, 7:30-9:30 pm / Grades 9-12
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
(PG-13, 151 min.) Fearing that the actions
of Superman are left unchecked, Batman
takes on the Man of Steel, while the world
wrestles with what kind of a hero it really
needs. Popcorn provided!
Z. Fact is Stranger Than Fiction:
Everybody has a Story to Tell!
Mon–Fri Aug 1-5, 9:30-11:30 am /
Grades 4+
Join local writer Elise Doner for her 7th
annual popular youth writers’ camp to
promote the art and craft of storytelling
and to honor and celebrate the diversity
and commonality of human experience.
Each writer will develop and write a story
about a personal experience that is true and
authentic, (MOTH radio hour style). After
their personal stories are crafted they will be
told live, followed by a “meet the authors”
and book signing at the end of the week. An
anthology will be collected for a display at
the library. (If possible bring a small 3-ring
binder with a clear sleeve on cover.)

International political puppet trouppe from Glover, Vermont, Bread & Puppet will perform a puppet show. Performance is followed by art
workshop, fire performance, and ice cream social. This event is co-sponsored by the JTL and DRML.
