Big thanks to Anna C who organized it all and Dave H who slaved in the kitchen for hours to bring us his infamous Taco Bar extravaganza! Congratulations to all Softball and Volleyball Team MVP’s! Photos from the party can be found elsewhere in this newsletter. Skiing 4, 5 Here are the award winners for this summer Congratulations to all members who participated in the Summer events. Hope your holidays were filled with family and friends. Well the skiers amongst us are all happy for all the snow that has fallen in our resorts. Yes, Mammoth is already open but skiers can never have too much snow! The ski season and the end of competitive volleyball and softball were celebrated at the annual Pray for Snow Party on Dec 10th. To be honest I don’t recall much praying but we did praise our Softball and Volleyball MVPs! Thank you Anna for organizing it, Dave for providing plenty of great food, Stu for presenting the awards, and all those who helped out both before and after. Talking of skiing, although the Aspen trip is nearly sold out, we still have spaces on the Mammoth bus trips. It is really important that people sign up as early as possible for these. The latest we can cancel the condos is 45 days before the trip. The bus costs the same whether it is full or half full. Those two items account for almost all the cost, so if we aren’t comfortable that the trip will be close to full, we will cancel it. That decision has to be made long before the trip is due to take place. To get you the best price we run these trips with almost no margin, so we don’t have much room to maneuver. A three day trip costs approximately $14,000 to run so you can see why we have to be cautious. So all you have to do to make sure that the trip will happen is sign up! As some of you will have found out, there is an inevitable lag between a membership check being mailed to the PO Box, being collected from there, getting forwarded to membership, entered into the database and being printed onto a newsletter address label. As a result, some of you received postcards reminding you to renew when you already had. For that I apologize. I’ve always felt that having membership renewal dates throughout the year is confusing and it makes it difficult to implement an effective reminder process. We therefore plan to change to a single annual membership renewal date. The transition will be a bit cumbersome as members are asked to pay for part of a year but I think it will worthwhile in the long run. We are also going to make it possible to join or renew on the website using PayPal which will also speed up the process. Finally I have to announce that having become a US Citizen back in October I’ve had to resign from being the club’s Prime Minister and revert to the more traditional title of President. I could never get Don to refer to himself as the Chancellor of the Exchequer anyway and as for the Chief Whip.... Nick WATCH FOR THESE COMING EVENTS! March 08: Camping, Emma Wood Campground, $150 / night September 25—28: Clambake. Same place. Editor Apologies: I had every intention of having the newsletter in your hands on Dec 1. But then, my Mother began having health issues which put her in the hospital, and that changed my priorities. The situation is resolved for the moment. She is now in Assisted Living where she receives around the clock care and supervision. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
