A SPONSORED CHILD’S VIEW OF CERENID
This letter was sent to a sponsor from one of
our sponsored boys in CERENID. I thought it
was a beautiful testimony of his experience
and I hope you find it as encouraging as I did.
“Dear Sponsor, ...I’m going to tell you about
CERENID and me.
CERENID is 90 km. from Santa Cruz. It’s
like a paradise. I really like CERENID because it’s in the middle of mountains and
there’s a small river. The land is rich.
Bible and I read Psalms, Proverbs and Joshua.
These books really help giving me strength
and advices.
I’m part of CERENID and I like to work. In
CERENID I learnt to make bread and to use
agriculture tools, but the most important, I
could meet Jesus and I could know that He
died for me in the cross because he wants
that I have an eternal life. When I have
problems I go to my bedroom and I read the

When we
go on vacation we
really work
hard to
have some
money in
CERENID.
On Saturdays we go to the church almost all
day, and if we have a good weather we go to
the mountain to have a worship time there.
Every day in the morning and at night we have
our worship time. All of us are vegetarians.
We don’t eat meat and we are healthy and
strong, we like sports.
In CERENID there are 5 families and every
family has parents and 12 boys. We have a
field to play. We have small farms where we
grow vegetables that we need to cook and to
sell in the city. We have 2 more big places one is to play and the other to grow tomatoes, corn, potatoes and cassava, etc.

When I arrived to CERENID I didn't like it
because my family was far away and I didn’t
like the food. I tried to escape from here
but I couldn’t and I got used easily here, suddenly I like to work and the games. I arrived
here in 1999 when I was 8 years old and I’m
really happy. I have a great time with my
friends.”

A VISIT TO LAR DE MENINAS—BRAZIL
Earlier this year, a sponsor had the pleasure
of visiting Lar de Meninas in Brazil and meeting his sponsored child. The visit was very
short and not expected by the workers at the
hostel. Our sponsor however, was delighted
to find this little hostel in beautiful condi-
tion. The home was clean and looked after
quite well and most importantly he could see
that the girls were very well cared for.
The little girls in this hostel have been removed from abusive or neglectful family situations by Social Services and are the youngest
sponsored children that we have in our program.
The local Social Services actively tries to have
these children adopted into
more stable families and because of this, many of these
girls have found loving homes
to live in—which is what they
all deserve to have.
GREETINGS FROM ME TO YOU
It has now been over 5 years that I have been
the director of this awesome ministry and I
have enjoyed it thoroughly. I continue to be
blessed by the gratitude and success of the
children, the dedication and hard work of the
teachers and workers in our schools around
the world and of course, by the generousity
and faithfulness of our sponsors. During
these last several months of economic challenges, I have subconsciously braced myself
for a large dropout of sponsors, but by God’s
grace, there have been very few sponsors that
have left our program and several new people
that have joined.
I am grateful for this. It is important for all
☺
of us to remember that in difficult times we
need to help more. The money we send to our
children is not going as far as it used—
exchange rates are lower and the cost of their
commodities and especially food has gone up
substantially. But regardless of the circumstances, we must continue to help because we
know that God will do mighty things with our
sincere gifts to these needy children around
the world.
On behalf of the children
and their families, I express
sincere thanks for your support. I hope you all have a
very happy and safe summer.
