At an early age, he confessed Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas, where he was baptized by the late Dr. A. C. Horton. Pastor Jackson graduated from Lincoln High School, and enlisted in the Military. While serving in the Military, he heard God’s call at the tender age of 17. In 1952, Pastor Jackson accepted his calling to the Ministry, and preached his first sermon at Mount Carmel Baptist Church on a Wednesday night. He was later licensed and ordained under the pastoral leadership of the late Dr. A. C. Horton. In an effort to fulfill God’s calling to teach and grow God’s people, Pastor Jackson continued his Christian education at Bishop College and Southern Bible Baptist Theological Seminary. After Pastor Jackson received his ordination, he pastored four churches: The Elam Grove Baptist Church, Mabank, Texas, Muddy Creek Baptist Church, Quitman, Texas, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Terrell, Texas, and The Samaria Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas, where he has served faithfully as pastor for over 33 years. Pastor McKinley Jackson later met and married the beautiful Eddie Ruth (nee’ Fanning) Jackson, of West Point, Georgia. During this union, Pastor Jackson’s family grew along with his desire to fight social and racial injustice, as well as change the laws to better serve the economically disadvantaged and minorities. Pastor Jackson has always been sensitive to the needs of God’s people and did not hesitate to stand up for them. Pastor Jackson put “feet on his faith” by serving as a community activist, Fort Worth City Councilman (District 5), President of the NAACP - Terrell Chapter, and Campaign Motivator for The Straight Democratic Ticket. He held positions for civic and political organizations throughout the city, state, and country, which include Boy Scout Master and Instructional Representative of the Boy Scouts of America Yellow Horse District, Member of Tarrant County Black Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc., Lifetime Member NAACP, Local Advisory Council Member of Southwestern Christian College, Terrell Texas, Executive Board Member of Sickle Cell Anemia Association of Texas, Inc., and Board Member of Eastland Elementary School, FWISD. Pastor Jackson’s religious affiliations and leadership positions include: President of The Terrell Minister’s Alliance, President of The Baptist Ministers’ Union of Fort Worth & Vicinity, President of The Baptist Missionary and Education Youth Convention of Texas, Vice Moderator of The Zion Rest Baptist District Association., Chairman of The J. T. Hill & L. S. Smith Scholarship Committee, Moderator of The Friendship Baptist District Association, Doctrine Teacher of The Women’s Department Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention of Texas, Treasurer of The Friendship Baptist District Association, Treasurer of The Baptist Ministers’ Union of Fort Worth & Vicinity, and Vice President of The Christian Defense League, Inc. Out of all of Pastor Jackson’s earthly contributions, nothing gave him more joy and love than leading his family and pastoring the great people of Samaria Baptist Church. He was never “unapproachable” and considered it a privilege to preach “The Gospel” everywhere he went. He had a genuine love for the Word of God and God’s people. He fleshed out his precious saying, “It’s nice to be nice” to everyone he met; however, he did not cave in to outside pressure. He was a visionary before his time and preached the unadulterated gospel without apology. During the past year, Pastor Jackson made careful preparation to transition from his earthly home to his heavenly home. He made it clear without hesitation that he was God’s servant, and he loved his family, friends, and Samaria Baptist Church, unconditionally. He did not just want to be remembered just for the things that he did, but for the souls that were saved and the lives that were changed under his ministry. Pastor Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, Waymond & Rose Lee Jackson, Sr.; brothers, Raymond Jackson and Waymond Jackson; sister, Eulla B. McGregor; and daughter, Cecelia Jackson. Those left to cherish his loving memory: his wife, Eddie Ruth Jackson; sons, Ronnie Jackson and Michael Jackson, both of Dallas, Texas, Jesse Jackson (Shauna) of Gonzales, Louisiana, and Reverend William McKinley Jackson (Erica) of Fort Worth, Texas; daughters, Sharon Jackson of Dallas, Texas, and Alicia Jackson of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, great grandchildren, the Samaria Church family, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Well Done, Pastor McKinley Jackson, Sr. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith..” - II Timothy 4:7 To My Beloved Church How C an A Preacher Die? How can a preacher die when the words he speaks, are words of life? How can a Preacher die when the life he has lived, was full of sacrifice? How can a Preacher die when each day he stands tall among men? How can a Preacher die when so many are saved, he turn from sin? How can a preacher die when he lives in the hearts of so many living? How can a Preacher die when so many who are now blessed received from his giving? How can a preacher die when every step he makes, they’re ordered by God? How can a preacher die when the very nature of his life is to work hard? How can a Preacher die when people everywhere knows him by sight and name. How can a preacher die when he goes with and without, and always remains the same. How can a preacher die when he blesses the birth and witnesses the death. How can a preacher die when he listens to troubles, and prays with each breath. He cannot die, as long as we live. He cannot be forgotten, as long as we give, Thought to every sermon, mind to every lesson... Memory of every topic, that brought about our confession. He cannot die, when in each of us is a part so, immortal. His life he can never be buried beneath the soil of dust. He will always live, because he will live in us. - Dr. Gregory W. Your words have encouraged our sad hearts. Your presence has given us an arm to lean on. Your food has helped us to maintain our strength. The flowers, the cards, the kisses, the phone calls, and the telegrams have added a touch of beauty to a setting that was so full of gloom. Because of you, the burden that seemed so heavy has lightened. Now may God bless each of you, and please continue to remember us in your prayers. - The Jackson Family - The Interment Laurel Land Memorial Park Dallas, Texas Services Fulfilled By Serenity Funerals & Cremations “Providing Tranquil Memories for Peaceful Transitions” 4725 Vermont Avenue | Fort Worth, Texas 76115 Phone: 817.207.0086 | Fax: 817.207.8093 www.serenityfuneralsandcremations.com Program Designed & Printed by U-Niq Kreationz© 832.630.5542 • www.uniqkreationz.com
